just read an interview with Bon Iver (or more specifically Justin Vernon) and it pissed me off. It's not a capital city. That sentence right there angers me so much that I will probably never be able to give their new record a fair shake. go express your anger by writing a song about Milwaukee, the capital of Wisconsin; especially if you have never been there. Perhaps you could even quote Wayne's World for proper stereotypes. Pete: In fact, isn't "Milwaukee" an Indian name? Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. Actually , it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land." Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that.

...and it was late in the evening, and I blew that room away... When we saw Paul Simon he did a second encore with this song. And he totally did blow that room away. That is awesome. I would love to see 'late in the evening' played live. The baseline in this Radiohead song immediately reminded me of it.

FYI, Oingo Boingo was an answer in today's NY Times Crossword. HG's 'A Record a Day' thread just keeps on giving.

Oh.God. They're the most amazing things (and cheapest) you'll put in your mouth all weekend. I usually HATE hotpockets (a-la Jim Gaffigan, anyone?) but it coated the booze better than anything. Some primordial part of me is craving a hotpocket right now! Pardon me for my immature mind, but that quote definitely did not slip through the sexual innuedo in my head.

the fact that the taxi's where there was not a bad thing, i enjoyed them, and the drivers for the most part where cool as shit. this is my problem, we camped about 1.5 miles from centeroo, there was a open campsite that they closed down right next to centeroo and opened up ours way the fuck out there. i think they did this to cause us to have to pay the taxi and walk by all the extra venders. shit like that annoys me. the music was great. but i dont want to talk about roo, I want to hear you guys tell me how chill and awesome sasquatch is so i can sell my girl on dropping a few thousand next year to road trip it. i am pretty sure we will, unless modest mouse is playing somewhere else, i'm kind of on a mission to see them. Alright HigherPrimate, since you are unaware that this message board has many, many, many threads that deal with this subject, I will enlighten your barely-better-than-bonobo-brain. Enjoy the read; you and your friend have 11 months to get through them and decide. sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1520sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1546sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1263sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1008sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=939sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1028sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=805sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=809sasquatchfest.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=144P.S. Ahh so I would have had to have seen Carolina Liar to hear that rumour. I think I made the right choice to just wait 3 years to hear it on the interwebs. yeah. You made the right call. I'll justify seeing them with "there was no other act on at the time" The act of drinking was going on for me at the time.

What? I read the link, I just dont see how it applies to what you quoted. Vancouver Hockey fans are nice, peaceful people ---> post game riot ---> adjust comment to suit your perception ----> those rioters were not true hockey fans. They were all just thieves and anarchists.

New Jersey and Friendly D: Great to see you both back, and thanks for the trip reports! Happy you both had a great time! Also thanks for being guinea pigs for me; given your stories about the heat and stage views I will likely avoid Bonnaroo. There are enough big festivals out there where I won't have to sweat 12 hours a day

I'm just loving it because Canada's stainless steel sense of superiority is looking pretty shabby right now. Americans riot when police commit hate crimes; Canadians riot when they run out of hockey. C'mon dude, two posts above I referenced two instances where the U.S. outdid Vancouver on riots following a sporting match. Ya, we look bad now, but this is by no means an isolated event.

This is fascinating. I'm wondering what might possibly cause the people of Portland to riot. Making thick rimmed glasses against the law? Well-played. I went looking for Portland sports riots, and didn't find any; you guys seem pretty chill. However, I did come up with this: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/nba/longterm/jordan/articles/riot92.htmThe Bulls rioted when they beat the Trailblazers. Vancouver looks docile compared to this (I do realize the different social contexts here; just making a point is all). I couldn't find too much about it, but Detroit beat Portland in 1990; and rioted even harder than the people of Chicago in '92. 7 people died, 140 arrested, hundreds injured.

I disagree. This kind of thing doesn't happen every time a professional team loses a major title. True, but if you look back on the recent history of Canadian Hockey teams losing or winning in the playoffs, this is rather commonplace. The media and the police both helped stimulate this riot by giving off the perception that it may happen. I'm paraphrasing, but the message "Please enjoy the game responsibly and don't riot" given out by the Mayor Robertson is akin to a call to arms for those inclined to anarchism. Pair that with the forced early shut down of liquor stores and the overwhelming police presence, well, to me that begets confrontation with those in power. Don't get me wrong; I think this sort of shit it utterly stupid, I guess I am just trying to justify why my city looks pretty shameful this morning

Wow. Just want to give a big thank you to the rioters in Vancouver for reminding me that its just a hockey game and that we dont deserve the cup if we are going to act like this. Also, congrats to Boston. You guys waited a long time for the cup, you deserve it. Congrats Boston. Well deserved. These "rioters" were going to do the same thing regardless of the outcome of the hockey game. There are hooligans in every city, and they all laud an opportunity such as this to exhibit their childish aggression. Unfortunately, tonight the spotlight is on Vancouver's hooligans. But I still think it's the best city in the world.

That one is for sure. If any of you crazy boarders want to join Gramma/Stormy and I for Phish at the Gorge, let us know. We will be there, and we'll have lots of time to drink and hang out during the day. If I'm not mistaken the only other Phish fan we got around here is Friendly D. What's up with that, anyway? HG, Phish are one of the few bands I have given a concerted effort in order to appreciate their music. Junta, for example, was one difficult album to learn to enjoy (IMO - I'm sure you've had more patience with certain music than I could afford), but I did, and I still pull it out every so often. I would still consider them one of my favorites, and I am happy I got the chance to see them when they finally returned to Canada in 2001 (after being stopped at the border for possession back sometime around 1996). They played Golgi-->You Enjoy Myself to finish off their first set, which for me at the time was epic. Billy Breathes is probably one of the 10 albums I would take with me to a deserted island. I would see them again if they came to Vancouver, but I am not sure Phish really interests me enough any longer to warrant a 12 hour road trip to the Gorge.

Brian Wilson is in Vancouver in a couple of weeks. I have never seen him live; was wondering if he is still worth seeing. Anybody have any input here?

But so was the gorge. That is a thankless job, cleaning up other people's shit at dawn. I have definitely felt sorry for the Honeybucket cleaners when I have seen them in the morning. They must get a healthy dose of hazard pay for that work.
