As a human girl, everything I've seen about Lorde makes her seem cool, in a precocious Kiwi teenager type of way. She covered Kanye's "Hold My Liquor" live, that's cool. And some of her songs have not so bad parts. I don't like major record labels' influence on things like radio play or advertising money, but the whole process usually works to help people I like less than Lorde, so in this case I'm not so pissed. As per the ush, Drew articulating my feels.

Goddamit Nick. Between you and this (admittedly lovely) cover I've been singing Miley fuckin' Cyrus all day and that is straight-up embarrassing.

1) Rilo Kiley – rkives Yeah it's a b-sides and rarities. And the remix of "Dejalo" is the worst. Whatever fuck you, my favourite band in the whole wide world put out a new album this year. MY DEFUNCT HATE EACH OTHER NEVER MAKING MUSIC AGAIN FAVOURITE BAND EVER PUT OUT A NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR. Also, the two-punch of "Let Me Back In" and "Get You There" has been the very important musical soundtrack to a lot of very important happenings in a fucked up year. 2) Chvrches – Bones of What You Believe Seriously this year was so rich in EXACTLY the type of music I love, female vocalist electropop whatever. AKA exactly the opposite of what Souly likes. 3) Data Romance – Others Probably listened to this album more than anything else this year. Something about the fragile loveliness of the singer's voice is just incredible. Shout out to Pea and the Meow Playing thread for this one, fer realz. 4) Ms Mr – Secondhand Rapture The only reason this didn't get first is that I only got obsessed with it a month ago and I'm worried that like with most of my obsessions it might not stand the test of time. LOVE THIS FUCKING ALBUM THOUGH SO HARD. 5) Nine Inch Nails – Hesitation Marks You guys know. This guy knows. 6) Vampire Weekend – Modern Vampires of the City 7) Moderat – II 8) Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork 9) Tegan and Sara – Heartthrob 10) The Joy Formidable – Wolf’s Law 11) Disclosure – Settle 12) Civil Wars – Civil Wars 13) Man Man – On Oni Pond 14) !!! - Thr!!!er 15) Daft Punk – Random Access Memories 16) Frightened Rabbit – Pedestrian Verse 17) Arcade Fire - Reflektor 18) Boards of Canada – Tomorrow’s Harvest 19) Jon Hopkins – Immunity 20) Camera Obscura - Desire Lines Holy shit that was hard. We are lucky to have been in the year twentythirteen y'all. Hey, can we do a best songs of 2013 thread too? A lot of my favourite shit of this year didn't make the "Album" cut and I'd like to give them credit where it's due. I guess I could just make it. NEVERMIND PRETEND YOU DIDN'T READ THAT!

That is why Dr. Garbanzo does internet, but I think this might be why weenie does internet: Many moons ago a young weenie called up her friend Al Gore and said "Dude, there needs to be a medium for people to look at moving pictures of dancing wormdogs, whaddyathink?" This, my friends: is why the internet at all.

13) Big Boi @ Rifflandia Although this just wet my whistle for the full Outkast reunion! Big Boi was generically boring when I saw him earlier this year. If the reunion happens, Andre better carry that shit, otherwise they'll need hang-gliders shooting roman candles at each other and elephants shitting on movie stars to make that show worth seeing. Really? Maybe it was a lot due to the crowd being super into it but I thought it was a fantastic show. I mean, he did spend most of his time sitting (in a freaking throne) but I'm pretty sure that was due to injury, not just laziness.

Thanks for the Canadian concession! 1) Sigur Rós @ Sasquatch Seriously, even six months later I'm still getting little aftershocks. I don't know what happened to me at this show but damn, am I glad it did. 2) Nine Inch Nails @ The Key Arena 3) Postal Service (JENNY LEWIS I MEAN) @sasquatch 4) Queens of the Stone Age @ Squamish 5) Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake @ Rogers Arena 6) Vampire Weekend @ Squamish 7) !!! @ Bumbershoot Probably the best dance party of the year 8) Chali 2na @ Rifflandia 9) Matt & Kim x 2, equally as fun at Bumbershoot & Rifflandia. 10) Chvrches @ Sasquatch 11) Jurassic 5 @ Squamish 12) John Talabot @ Sasquatch 13) Big Boi @ Rifflandia Although this just wet my whistle for the full Outkast reunion! 14) The Breeders @ Bumbershoot AKA the night 90s grrrrrl music saved my sanity. 15) Dan Mangan @ Squamish 16) Madeon @ Squamish 17) The Mounties @ Rifflandia 18) Weezer @ Rock The Shores Yeah yeah, I know. But seriously, it was so much fun to sing along and boogie with the whole crowd at that show. I even had fun with songs I fucking hate to death. 19) That awesome baby @ Bumbershoot Seriously you guys, that baby. 20) Gogol Bordello @ Squamish. Only last 'cause it really wasn't the musical best per se, more the bouncing around and dancing and spraying water and having SO MUCH FUN in the crowd with our giant crew. Comedy Highlights! Tig Notaro @ Sasquatch Doug Loves Movies @ Bumbershoot Improv4Humans @ Bumbershoot Kyle Kinane @ Sasquatch Man, making this list just gave me a lot of feels. I had such a good time with so many amazing people in front of so much awesome music this year. Seriously, thanks to everyone who was a part of my adventures this year, love y'all so much.

I'm officially out for Squamish this year, as two of my favourite people ever are getting hitched that weekend and the ferry makes it harder to pull a Pea. Sad to miss out though!

OutKast- Speakerboxxx / The Love Below - For whatever reason, listening to The Love Below always becomes a chore for me after listening to Speakerboxxx. Ha, I'm the exact opposite. I like Speakerboxxx, but it's like an appetizer for my main course. And damn, I love that entrée. I'm hungry.
