Thanks for the reply, I have seen that chart, but I am still unclear of where the general admission actually is...as in, are the seats below the hill or on it? (It does lack an elevation chart, haha) And asking a question about other peoples opinions will always be subjective, just curious on what those peoples opinions will be to make a better informed decision

Hey guys, I've been to Sasquatch a bunch of times, but I have never gone just for a regular seated show before.....so I had a question, since I missed the whole "buy all the tickets" rush when the concert was announced....it seems like most of the good seats are gone, and I dont really want to spend $275 for a pit ticket, so can someone tell me a little more about the General Admission ticket? I assume its a first come first serve kind of thing, but where exactly does it start? At the squatch I remember seeing box seats at the bottom of the hill and everyone just put blankets down above it (before the fence area), is that what they mean by "lawn"/GA area? (and all the other paid seats would be in the normal "pit" flat area? Or are the seats put in on the hill and the GA area is above that? (on the crest of the hill)
Also, I saw there was camping too, was that mostly so people could party before and after the show? Or is it more of a way for people to rest up before the show because of the long drive?
Any other advice would be awesome too.

Man, that took a while....went through the entire schedule and checked out all the bands I havent really listened to yet (attached schedule below) Green - 1st choice Yellow - 2nd choice/maybe Red - 3rd choice The tough decisions for me is The Shins/St Vincent (was a big shins fan a while back, newest album was just ok though) Have no idea what Im going to do on early Saturday: Blitzen Trapper, Electric Guest, Craft Spells all have some good songs (and some not so good ones), that and they're playing when some good comedians are on too (Pete Holmes and Rob Delaney) And lastly.....The Joy Formidable or fun.? Overall I think Im going to be staying on the main stage for the most part (was bouncing around a lot more last year) Attachments:

Ok, so my lame weather topics got deleted (very deserving...not making many friends around here, lol). But if they get deleted without any indication of why, I thought I just did something wrong and will post another topic (is there no way to PM people on here?).
Cant believe I didnt see this topic before posting that....so 100% my bad there.
Back on topic, thanks Viking for posting the weather....though what does the "20%" mean? Is that humidity or percent chance of rain?
Totally going to get called a dumbass again since it was probably explained somewhere else in this topic.

Hey guys, I'm super excited about seeing J Mascis live....but does anyone know what kind of set he's going to be doing? The reason why I ask is because people somehow knew that the Flaming Lips set would be mostly from The Soft Bulletin album, maybe theres some inside info floating around about J Mascis. I've been listening to a lot of his stuff and theres a lot of different styles of music, it could be Dinosaur Jr, J Mascis + the Fog, J Mascis from his current albums....or this:
Any other discussion about how awesome J Mascis is on this topic is welcome, anyone seen him live before?

Awesome, just saw this...filled out my schedule, not as many conflicts as I first thought, I only have a few I'm unsure of (any advice on which to see would be great): Sharon Von Etten vs. J Mascis: Love J Mascis when he shreds/acoustic like in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUgoU3J-nHo, his CDs are hit and miss though....anyone know what kind of set hes going to do? Sharon Von Etten has some really catchy songs (One Day/Dont Do it) and a wonderful voice...but again, the albums I've heard is hit and miss Cold War Kids vs City and Colour: I saw Cold War Kids live....they were good, didnt blow me away or anything. There was some hate going on about City and Colour, I like several of their songs...but is there a reason why some board members dislike them? Modest Mouse vs Ratatat: Really like both of these bands (just found out about Ratatat recently), would it be worth it to stay through the whole of Modest Mouse's set?

I agree, this seems like a retarded way of trying to find out what an artist is about. It screams of ADD, instant-gratification, attention-span of a twitter update to me. Does not compute for me. I hold great value in listening to an album complete from start to end, and believe more depth and reward is found there. And the idea of deleting the lesser liked tracks from an album-- that just seems like such a fuck you to an artist! I mean, I love making mixes and will spend months trying to find the perfect placement of tracks; I can only imagine how much effort and thought goes into deciding a tracklist for a band. If theres one thing that I've gotten out of this debate (besides the fact that I still dont like The Flaming Lips) is that deleting tracks from an album is probably not the best idea in terms of listening to music. Its like skipping to all the action scenes in a movie, sure its the best part....but they mean so much more when you watch the whole thing. Thinking back, I believe it started when I was younger when I found a song I liked....but the rest of the album sucked (aka. a one hit wonder), Still wanted to listen to that song, but not sit through the crap of the rest of the album....and then just deleted the crap, guess I went a little overboard when I started to listen to actual good artists. One last question though, when you go to a concert.....the artist plays (usually) their best/favorite tracks from all their albums....how different is it with the system I had? (not saying they're the same, just similar)

All the time I hear people in their early twenties saying, "Oh, I only started listening to good music a couple years ago DERP!", and what they are referring to is that they started reading about bands on the internet isntead of just listening to the radio, and internet conversation is always going to lead you to a handful of what I guess we're still calling "indie bands", even though they are all on major labels and are among the most successful acts in the world: The Decemberists, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, etc. You've moved up one rung of the ladder, good for you, but don't fucking celebrate just yet. Mainstream media has co-opted "indie music" and what you find without really having to look is not much more than you would have found by just sticking with the radio. This process has pushed the real innovators even further into the margins, and even with music being so easily accessible because of the internet you still have to go looking for the good stuff. I'm not saying it is all going to appeal to you, but if you've lived twenty years and you're just barely hearing Modest Mouse (I'm using them as a generic example, please use your imagination here) for the first time, aren't you curious about what else might be hiding out there??Probably not. Probably not, because music doesn't cost you a fucking cent. You've probably never paid for music once in your life. You've never dug around in a record store and committed twenty of the dollars you amassed by mowing lawns in the summer to an album that may or may not appeal to you at all. But if you buy that record and bring it home, you're going to listen to it because that is where your twenty dollars went. Maybe you'll listen to it six or seven times, because its the only new album you'll get that month (FUCKING SHOCKING, RIGHT ASSHOLE?) and maybe you're a little pissed that you wasted your money. Maybe that disc winds up being the only disc in your car and you spend a whole road trip with it, and when you get home it is your favorite album for the rest of your life. These are dead practices, and I'm sure they sound ridiculous to the couple of kids I am addressing (whose usernames I do not remember, nor care to), but I use them as an example to make a point: You aren't making a commitment to the music. You won't make a commitment to an album, and so that album won't make a commitment to you. Choosing one night stands and banging randoms to developing a relationship which causes you to understand yourself and other people better. It means nothing to me that you can't enjoy so much of what being a lover of music has to offer. Maybe I pity you a little bit, but I know the benefits that are there to be had and you'll never know shit about them if you don't go find them for yourself. I remember the days of buying music (really miss it actually, you are right about it giving a lot more meaning to it, but thats a discussion for another time), still got my pitiful stack of 100+ CDs (not 1,000's of mint condition vinyls you must own) sitting by my desk. Now lets take your example of "saving up money for weeks to buy 1 album that will last you all summer"....wouldnt you want that album to be the best possible one you could get? Or at least one that you'll enjoy? I remember This happened to me about 9-10 years ago, saved up money doing a paper route, and heard a pretty cool song on the radio, it was Pedal to the Metal by Kazzer (yea, Canadian band)....so I went out and spent my money on his album, Go For Broke. It sucked.....hard, felt ripped off....listened to it a few times and then never touched it again. Sure I now have a full opinion on Kazzer...but am I really that enlightened by it? What if I had chosen Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon that summer? But since I made such an uninformed decision....I didnt listen to music at all that summer. Maybe I will never experience the enjoyment in finally "getting" an album after 5+ listens, to me its just a big gamble of time. You prefer to listen to music that way, I do not....why is that so hard to grasp? FYI, I am VERY curious on what else is out there.....thats why I'm always on the hunt for music I havent heard before, I just give my time and energy to bands that entice me....I feel like a broken record here. Also, I'm curious Horned Gramma...how old are you? And how long have you been listening to music? (I have never met someone so passionate about music before, I am genuinely curious now)

For your question about how often I listen to music....probably way too much. I can listen to music at work, pretty much always have it on when traveling (on foot, bus, car), and of course in my downtime at home. Thats 30-40 hours a week on average. ok, so I was all prepared to come out of lurking to defend you and say that everyone should give you break, not everyone has the time to devote to listening to full albums and you're probably making the best of the time you have available for music, blah blah blah... but GOOD LORD! you have 30- 40 hours a week and you say you can't find the time to listen to an album all the way through! I wasn't really so prepared to jump onto the "YOURE NOT LISTENING TO MUSIC PROPERLY" bandwagon but I guess here I am. I just can't see how one can fully appreciate an artist's work by just picking and choosing a random song here and there, even if they are the most popular ones. It would be like picking up a book and flipping to page 137, reading a paragraph and then flipping to page 42, reading another, and then deciding it wasn't a very good book. Wow....I must have REALLY not explained myself (or, maybe you just didnt read when I came into the thread), I listen to full albums.....a lot, think I went through about 10 different ones this week. It is the best way to get a sense of a band....agree 100% here, what I have said before and I'll say again is if I dont like a band from a bunch of random songs....I wont spend the time and go through a full album. I like spending my 30-40 hours on GOOD bands....because, theres a lot out there (but even more crap). Yes, I know I cant get a full opinion on a band from a few select songs....but I like to think of it as a movie trailer, if the trailer looks like crap....you're not going to see the film unless critics/friends recommend it. I am the consumer here, the artist should entice me into listening to their album.....if the songs I find are crap, 90% of the time the rest are crap. Got a question to add here: For example, you hear a few mediocre songs from a band on the radio, to get the "full opinion" on the artist you listen to their most popular album, its still mediocre.....you never listen to them again. In the time it spent to get the album, listen to it a few times to get the "feel" of the band.....you could have been looking for a new artist, maybe one that you actually like....but you no longer have time. You now missed out on a great band because you were getting in depth with a mediocre one, tell me how that makes more sense to you guys.

I get where this guy is coming from, he just isnt explaining himself very well. I for one have never listened to a full WKD album but I have heard enough to know that there are probably other shows going on during his set that I would rather see. I mean, if you have heard 5 songs by a band and didnt like any of them, why would you try whole albums? That being said, based on recommendations from people who have similar taste in music as me I have spent hours listening to music I didnt initially like but it grew on me and now I like it. But I wouldnt do this for every single band because I actually like to enjoy listening to music I already like sometimes rather than constantly trying to strain myself to like more bands. Thank you sir. If I knew how emotional this thread would get I would have detailed my opinion much more clearly. Still, I just have to say I did get a laugh out of this thread, hard not to imagine people yelling "YOURE NOT LISTENING TO MUSIC PROPERLY", which until today....didnt think was possible, hahaha. For your question about how often I listen to music....probably way too much. I can listen to music at work, pretty much always have it on when traveling (on foot, bus, car), and of course in my downtime at home. Thats 30-40 hours a week on average. I'd say I'm 60-40 for new music, and the other 40 is pretty much all Sasquatch stuff right now Usually I just listen to the most popular album according to last.fm, and give that album about 10 listens before I move onto another one. But judging a band based on random songs you find on youtube is just kind of retarded. 10 Listens to an album before moving on? I have to applaud you on your dedication (or is it insanity?)....if theres an album I dont like, its almost torture to sit through the entire thing once, cant imagine doing it 10 times. Speaking of albums I dont like....Soft Bulletin didnt do it for me. It started off great with Race for the Prize (I preferred the second version more too), but after that it was just like the songs I had heard before (on, *gasp* youtube).......just not my music taste. The instrumental track Sleeping of the Roof was pretty good too, so at least I got a few songs out of it.

No one with a life would listen to a full album by an artist they had never heard before? I fucking hate this guy. Wow, this turned hostile pretty friggin fast.....Think you're missing my point here: no one with a life COULD listen to every single album they havent heard before....theres just too much music out there, you gotta wittle it down somehow. And yes, I listen to music for entertainment....I dont view it as "art" (Though once I grow wise as the members on here I might.....someday), not to say its not an art form. If it sounds good, I listen to it.....call it scratching the surface of the music medium, but I'm quite enjoying myself at the moment, if it aint broke dont fix it.

Hahaha, am I making you guys feel old?
I do see flaws in my system with sometimes passing over bands/songs that will grow on you over time/the good songs arent the popular ones....still I have a hard time seeing anyone with a life going STRAIGHT into an album of an artist you've never heard before. Like, say someone on the internet says "hey this band is good, you should check em out", you respond by *listening to every album from that artist*, wouldnt you want to know if they were good or not before wasting all that time if they're crap?

but browsing random tracks on youtube I'm just not feeling it This is because you need to listen to a complete album, from end to end. Really? For me the quality of a song (or me liking it) isnt increased by much if it "really blends into the next song after it", or w/e. Of course I listen to music a little differently than some, heres my process (which I used for all the bands in the lineup that I didnt know already): 1. Browse the most viewed tracks of band on youtube/myspace until I get a sense of what the bands style is 2. If I like a few tracks, I'll download the highest rated/most popular album on rate your music 3. Delete the songs I dont like, songs I love go into my current listening to playlist 4. If I still like the band, Download all other albums, repeat steps 3 + 4. If I listened to full albums of a band thats songs didnt impress me on youtube right away, I wouldnt have time to do anything else. EDIT: But since they're so highly regarded, I'll check out Soft Bulletin
