Since J-Dawg is a little out of the Facebook loop, I f.igure I'll bring the meetup conversation into this thread since we're just a little over two weeks out (TWO FUCKING WEEKS!!!).
It sounds like the collective is interested in all camping together and entering the campground as early as possible on Thursday. I believe we've settled on a meetup time of 7:30-8am somewhere in Indio. Have we settled on a location yet?
Rather than that, just PM me your facebook name so I can find you / the group.
Seared some beef short ribs with duck fat in the french oven. Then softened some carrots, shallots, beets and garlic. Added a shit tonne of Bordeaux wine, thyme, bay leaves, salt and pepper. Let that simmer at a low heat in the oven for a few hours. Then served it on some mashed potatoes served with some carrots I stewed in the bourguignon sauce. Finally topped with some balsamic caramelized onions.
Sounds dee-lish. Also, I have the same placemats but in a different color (beige/brown). Who knew.
Awesome, thank you! I'm going to be scouring amazon (as soon as I have money) to get lights for the camp for porpoises of a) not tripping, and b) finding my tent at high levels of intoxication. I think I'll probably over-prepare this year as far as securing the thing. Honestly I foresee us using bungee cords but in entirely irrelevant ways, and taking the canopy cover off (while a hassle) might just be the saving grace.
Target usually has a selection of inexpensive camp lights, although quality can be uneven sometimes. If you take the canopy off your shelter before you go in for the day, and leave the frame standing, it will be fine.

If you're in general and some people in your group concerned about the noise level at night / getting enough sleep, head to your local hardware store and buy some industrial foam earplugs. The kind you want are the cylindrical / bullet shaped ones, they will stay in your ears while you're sleeping. Make sure to buy enough (1 pair per person per night, DO NOT REUSE THEM). They're very very inexpensive.
I'm an old dude (30+) and I had no issues with general camping at Sasquatch. Camping is at least 25-40% of the fun for me.
Party when you feel like it, and when it's time to go to bed just pop in the ear plugs and sleep until morning.
2010 there was a large batch of fake Coachella wristbands being sold in Indio. They were fabric and looked good, but the colors were a little off. When you put them next to a real one you could tell. People were showing up at the entrance and freaking when the realized they had been scammed.
My Coachella wristband is being hand-delivered by the mighty mighty Shaxspear so I know it's legit.
As for Sasquatch, I'm a little surprised that it sold out as quickly as it did, but I guess it's a sign of the times. For anyone that can afford it, I highly recommend buying next year's tickets during the pre-sale, knowing you can probably sell it for face or close to it if the lineup isn't to your liking (not likely) or you can't make it for some reason. I do this for a lot of shows (buy as early as possible, usually pre-sale, and rest assured I can sell it afterwards if it comes to that).
I made a apple pecan chipotle spice cake for my housewarming party on Saturday. Aside from having more bite than I expected, it turned out awesome. It also has the dubious honor of being the first cake I've ever made where I wanted to drink more beer while I was eating it. Dangerous to be sure. Sugar + alcohol = awesome + hangover.
I can't wait to make your lineup poster for you. Arts and crafts!
J-Dawg, are we planning on entering the campground when it opens? I'm all game for an early head start on Thursday morning. I'd love to have a camping spot right near the entrance like Shax did last year.
This will take some planning to pull off but it can be done - here's what it would mean:
- We coordinate ahead of time re: stuff we want to buy / bring, and I buy everything that is a "buy" before you and Lahey arrive. This includes alcohol and food which I would just buy on Wednesday after work. I'll also fill the tank before picking you up from the airport.
- In order to get to the polo grounds by 9:00am when camping opens, we need to be on our way (as in wheels rolling) before 6:30am if we are willing to interpret the speed limit liberally; having lived in SoCal for a while now, I'm pretty sure I know how far we can push it.
- Given how I function in the morning, this will mean a 5:45 wake up for me and an immediate caffeine jolt, but that's do-able as long as things don't get too out of hand on Wednesday evening.
If all of that sounds OK to you guys, we just need to coordinate the supplies ahead of time so that there's no need to stop Thursday morning.
