I thought this might be a good place to look for others coming from the Portland area. I am interested in finding one or two people looking for a ride this year. I have room and I hope that my thread on the carpool board doesn't go awry like the guy from Portland looking for a riders. Any other gals looking for a way to the festival from the Portland area? I'd even be willing to drive up to Seattle and share the ride with you from there. I'm still trying to figure out my travel plans coming from LA. I'm pretty sure I'm going to fly up and would then need a ride. Want to PM me your e-mail address and we can chat? Also - only child here! (well, I have 2 older half brothers but I didn't grow up with them so they don't really count) I STILL resent not having a sister growing up. heh.

hahah! well, I may not have the prescription ones, but I'm sure I'll find other methods to chill myself out. ummm romper + cardigan + some accessories sounds really cute, actually! I just might have to try on a romper next time I go shopping to see if I can talk myself into it bc I love what I'm picturing in my head. haha yeah, I didn't really expect any miracle answer...just needed to complain about it mostly. I do appreciate the advice though!!

haha totally okay advice from a guy - it's actually pretty awesome to find guys who don't freak out at the mention of it. For the first time in my life I wish I was on the pill, but unfortunately I'm not since I don't really need it.

I'm down for this too! I've been trying to figure out how I want to get there and splitting a rental would be great. I haven't booked anything yet, either so I'm flexible.
Sara - I just read your other post and I'm going to shoot you an e-mail!

I feel like I've been seeing rompers everywhere while looking for sundresses. I say go for it. I love them. I'd totally rock one, but I don't think they would look good on me. heh ***FAIR WARNING TO THE GUYS WHO BROWSE THIS BOARD. YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO STOP READING HERE. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!*** Ok, I hate to take this into super stereotypical girl territory but... I just did the math and I think I'm going to start my period at Sasquatch. This is seriously stressing me out right now way more than it probably should. But feeling gross in the heat all day and camping and port-a-potties...I feel like I'm going to be miserable! And one of the main reasons I'm making the journey up there is to see this girl I'm kind of into. haha. Aghh I'm not happy.

Well, I'm not sure anymore actually. One of my friends was going to fly out from DC and we were going to drive up together, but I don't think she bought a ticket and now it's sold out. I also have a friend in Seattle that I just convinced to go yesterday and I'm pretty sure she didn't buy a ticket yet, so the option of flying up and driving with her doesn't really work anymore either. So I don't know what I'm going to do at the moment lol. I hate procrastinators, and this is why!

Yup, I went in '09. Definitely pretty decent festival considering the free-ness. Wish I coulda gone this past year with both Pavement and LCD being there and all. ohhh yeah, Pavement was pretty amazing. I'm also a HUGE Matt & Kim fan, so I was pretty excited about that! I had a ton of fun. Any favorites from '09? I remember thinking there were some cool people playing, but I can't remember anyone other than The National now. Are you from the area or went specifically for the festival?

Thanks, lady! I'm lovin' it. It was incredibly spontaneous. I mean, we were talking about me moving up there for about a year, but I finally did it with less than a week's notice. I decided on a Monday after a horrific day at work, quit by Friday and was living in Pittsburgh by Sunday! LA seems like a lot of fun, but I'm under the impression I'll have to weigh 80 pounds and have at least 5 plastic surgeries before I even move out there!! Maybe thats just from watching too much reality TV The publishing company handles 4 different magazines and I'm the product assistant to the Exec. Editor. I love it and learning a lot--but I kinda do his busy work. I got my degree in communication, which is where my passion for radio comes through, but I also got my minor in professional writing, so this/these jobs I have really accommodates my interests. So, you're looking for work in LA still? What would you like to do? I'm sure you could find some type of publishing/mag/writing company out in LA! OMG that definitely is spontaneous! Amazing. I love it! You do not need to weigh 80lbs and camp out in a plastic surgery office to live here! I mean, like I said before, it's what you make of it. Go hang out in Beverly Hills for a while and you'll definitely start feeling like you need a new haircut, a new wardrobe, and a new nose. You can find that scene in any city, though...so I don't think it's unique to LA, it's just more talked about maybe? idk...I don't hang out with people like that so I'm not really that familiar. hahah. I live in hipsterville, but I like it a lot. It's pretty laid back and the people seem good. Your job sounds cool even though it's just busywork right now. Are there any perks for you at least? Do you have somewhere you hope to end up in the future? I'm not really sure what I want to do out here which is what's making it kind of hard to find a job. hah. My last job was for a TV show and I ended up doing a little of everything while I was there. I started out doing Publicity, then was the assistant to one of our Executive Producers, and then was a Legal Assistant before I left. Random. haha. I'm not really interested in TV anymore - but I do like media/entertainment - so I've been toying with the idea of publishing, music, photography, etc. I'll probably end up trying to find another assistant job in an interesting field and go from there. GAH look at me in a rambling mood tonight!! Oh, I was going to ask - since you guys come from PA what do you do about a tent, etc? Pack it or rent it once you're there? I'm starting to think maybe I just want to fly up instead of road trip...I can't decide.

omg no way! Any move away from home is tough, so you get just as much credit for yours! I love that you just packed up and moved. I pretty much did the same thing and everyone thought I was crazy, but it is pretty exciting even though it's terrifying at the same time! Some people hate LA, but others love it. I think the thing I love the most about it is this town is what you make it. There really is something for everyone. What do you do for the publishing company? I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do out here. When I was deciding where I wanted to move before I came out here, I thought about staying on the East Coast for the publishing companies since I'm almost as much of a book nerd as I am a music nerd.

In that case, I say either Oscar Blandi Invisible dry shampoo or Rene Furterer dry shampoo. They both go on clear (not white) so you don't need to brush it out. Just spray and massage your scalp a bit -- no brushing required! I worked at Sephora for about a year, and I feel like i've tried all dry shampoos! oh wow - thank you!!

Gah - I love your hair! This is mine. Please excuse the douchey fake glasses and the fact that it's a mirror pic.

Mine looks insane after I sleep too. I think I'll probably just stock up on cheap headbands and bobby pins and hope for the best.

Hmmm, girly advice, let me think... Well, As for showering, dry shampoo is a MUST. I've tried tons of different brands, and I have a few faves. Firstly, definitely go with an aerosol dry shampoo. It gives you tons of volume, gets at the root, and is easier to use. If you have blonde hair, I would suggest the Oscar Blandi Pronto dry shampoo. It leaves a bit of a white film, hence why I recommend it for blondes/light coloured hair. For dark coloured hair, I love the Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible dry shampoo, which goes on clear. The problem I'm running into with the dry shampoos is that they need to be brushed out. I have curly hair, so brushing my hair is a big no-no. (I don't even own a brush, actually) I'll probably try a couple and see how "brushing" with my fingers works.

Awesome encouragement, thanks! I definitely need it. You have yourself a deal - bi-coastal ass kicking! heh, you're adorable! She is for sure scary! She is a total hardass, but really encouraging in all the right places. I like that about her. Usually if someone is too much of a hardass, my stubbornness kicks in and I get defiant hahah. But with her I enjoy it for some reason. I'm in LA! I had some friends out here and every time I came to visit I had so much fun and loved the nice weather. I've been seriously talking about moving out here for about a year but was comfortable in DC and just never really did anything about it. Then the place I worked downsized and I got laid off so I took my money and ran! It was the perfect opportunity to make the move if I was ever going to do it. I really like it out here. It's super hard to start over somewhere new again and sometimes I miss things about DC, but overall it has been a really nice change! You should definitely come visit! I'm sure you would have fun. The music scene is what I love...if there's not a show you'd like to see every night, you're just not looking hard enough. Where are you from?

Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred is pretty much an ass-kicker. No shit. Circuit training is so intense! But if you take it easy on the knee-heavy circuits (so pretty much anything standing up?!) and really kick the floor circuits, you still get a great workout. If you know anyone with p90 or p90x, you can do workouts that dont involve your knees at all. But those are insane too! Working out is so awful. ugh. But I always feel so great afterwards. It is a total ass kicker!!! The first day I did it I was like "oh my god...I'm going to have to crawl to the shower." haha. The abs workout on there rocks my world though - and I love her so that helps. I've been hearing a lot about p90 so I'm definitely going to check that out. I don't think I know anyone around here who has it, but it might be worth the investment. Have you done it?? I totally agree about working out too. I've never been big on working out, but mostly bc I feel so freaking self-conscious at the gym. Yeah, I'm that girl. It does make me feel like I should eat better, take more walks, and be healthier in general though - so I'm really trying to get a routine going. My life has been totally changed around the past 6 months and I just moved to California from DC, so I feel like it's a great time to start some new long term habits!

Only this year. I was supposed to go last year but got way too drunk the night before and had such a bad hangover that driving to Columbia felt like a slow torturous death. haha. I take it you've been?? I think it's a pretty awesome festival considering it's free!
