Second and goal at the one. 28 seconds left. The Seahawks have one time out. They have three plays left and have to throw once, to ensure they don't have to spike the ball to stop the clock, or get forced into hurry up panic mode. Everyone thinks that Marshawn can back flip into the end zone from the one to win the game, because most of them don't understand a sell out goaline blitz, where 11 guys are focused on stopping one guy. That's why Carroll called the pass play. The defense was in sell out mode, and the Seahawks needed to throw the ball once anyway. If you've ever played Madden, you understand clock management.
Now Belichick decided not to take a timeout when Lynch got the ball to the one with a minute left on first and goal (after the fourth greatest Super Bowl catch of all time). I couldn't understand this, Seattle was going to score, NE would have almost a minute left to get a FG to tie the game. I think Belichick didn't call a time out to force the Seahawks to throw the ball once. Then they pretended to play sell out goaline blitz, and the kid made the play of his career.
Why not give props to Belichick and the DB who made the play of his life. Carroll didn't lose the game because he didn't give the ball to Marshawn. I think he lost the game because he got outcoached.
-They weren't in a "goal line" defense, they had 3 corners on the field. It was a hybrid and the Hawks misread it
-They threw a slant pass, into traffic, to their 4th (???) best receiver. I get the decision to throw a pass, I will never understand the decision to throw that pass.
I don't disagree with calling out everyone for blowing up about it being the worst play of all time. It still was a poor decision.
