Switch, I hope you didn't read what I wrote as sarcastic 'cause it totally isn't! I would be there in a second if I had the money. I'm just super bummed that I don't, and that I'll have no vacation time left by then. (Though the quitting option and using unemployment to fund a trip isn't too far-fetched of a plan) At first I didn't think you were being sarcastic and then I started to read it like that--like you were making fun of my proposal to sleep on the floor. I started to wonder if you were trying to tell me in a sarcastic way that nobody would want to go through all of the trouble to secure money to go all the way to Austin just to sleep on the damn floor. Then I was embarrassed for a little while. Haha. It's all good! I wish you could come, I always enjoy hanging out with you!

You might be right but I will never count Bassnectar out of any festival regardless of past lineups.
If you look at his tour page he has dates all the way up to the Voodoo fest in November in Louisiana and the bottom of the page says "more festival dates to be added". I know there are a million music festivals (JamBase has 326 listings) but ACL is one of the last major festivals to be announced besides Fun Fun Fun Fest, which is also in Austin. I know he was there last year but this guy seems to be a festival staple these days. In fact I am seeing him at the Free Press Summer Fest next month! Haha.
And I am an idiot because that Thievery Corporation date was from their tour date archive. They were there last year. Derp.

Yeah, I realize that it is a long shot that anyone will be able to make the trip but I thought I would at least make the offer. It makes the decision a little easier knowing that you don't have to try to find a place to stay in a city that is surely booked solid by now. And the hotel room is in downtown! Walking distance to the party district and the festival! I miss partying with you people!

Tonight is the night! I am super pumped but waiting until October is going to be tough because I think this lineup is going to be up there with Sasquatch 2010. So far the bands confirmed or heavily rumored are: The Cure, Depeche Mode, Muse, D’Angelo, Atoms for Peace, Neko Case, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Portugal. the Man, Toro y Moi, Local Natives, Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, The Joy Formidable, Kaskade, Smith Westerns, Grouplove, Junip, Bear Mountain, Shovels & Rope, True Believers, Haim, Fun., Shuggie Otis, My Jerusalem, Vintage Trouble, Not In The Face. I also found out by accident today that Cloud Cult is highly likely! I am on their mailing list and they sent out an email which stated that they would be concluding their 2013 tour for their new album on the west coast on May 12th. I replied to the email with "You aren't coming to Texas?? I was so excited to hear the new album live!" I sent the email with no intention of getting a reply but I was pleasantly surprised when there was a reply in my inbox just a short time later that read: "We will be headed your way in October. Stay tuned" I also discovered another confirmation just now while scouring tour pages: www.thieverycorporation.com/tours/These are my other guesses based on tour dates, wishes, and pure rampant speculation: The National, MGMT, Matt and Kim, Boys Noize, Bassnectar (you can pretty much add him to any festival lineup these days and there is a 99% chance you will be correct), Crystal Castles, Kendrick Lamar. Like Wonk said before, we have a large triple hotel room in downtown Austin booked for weekend 2 so if this ends up being a lineup that somebody here just can't miss (it's already super solid) you should come party in Texas with Wonk, my hot wife, and myself; Stamper and Catherine Sun Chips will also be at the fest that weekend. We definitely have room for one more person and can probably accommodate two more if someone doesn't mind sleeping with Wonk on the floor or couch if there is one.

The Cure - The Cure ("I don't want you anywhere near me! I don't want you anywhere near me! Get your fucking world out of my head!!") I can't believe I finally get to see them!
David Gray - A Century Ends The Faint - Wet From Birth (Did anyone see them at Coachella?) Puscifer - Conditions of My Parole

Dan Deacon and Animal Collective have a strange break in their tour in October. Also, Crystal Castles is touring with Depeche Mode so count them in. I like where this is headed.

Yeah, you're right. I think the D were at SXSW too. Still though, it's not like they were playing every festival possible like The Postal Service are. It made it seem special in my eyes.

I try not to use the word hipster in a derogatory sense (or at all), but that's damn near the hipsterest of hipster mentalities. "I was into the Postal Service before they were announced for Lolla". Who cares how many shows they are playing? You should look forward to a show for the music and not for how exclusive hearing that music will be. That said, I'd probably be pissed if I was going to more than one festival they were headlining, because they only have 12 songs, so you know it's going to be the exact same set at each show. Call me a hipster then because I sure felt like the Beck set had an extra special feeling to it knowing that Sasquatch was the only festival who could book him--Tenacious D as well.

This has nothing to do with the festival but Austin City Limits (the TV series) puts out a damn good product. I have recently come to understand two bands that I totally didn't get before--Bon Iver and T.une-yards. After seeing them on ACL live I have finally gained a lot of appreciation and respect for them.
Bon Iver is a band that I didn't exactly hate, but I could never understand what all the fuss was about either. After seeing their episode I totally get it now--they are an incredibly talented and diverse band. I was blown away by their use of offbeats, key changes, and tempo changes.
T.une-yards was a group that I didn't even take the time to explore just because, like HG said in his Amoeba section, I usually find myself too busy with only a couple bands at a time because I consume myself in everything they are about. I'm glad I caught this episode because Merrill Garbus, who I can imagine seems really loud and obnoxious to some, makes great use of a loop pedal and puts out a very unique sound.
As far as the festival goes I am super pumped about the lineup announcement. The great thing about this festival (which can also be the not-so-great thing) is that it is later in the year. All of the bands that are on a summer tour end up on all of the other festival lineups while ACL has the potential to pick-up some of the other bands who might be busy working on an album or get a late start to touring. This makes me start to believe that NIN, The National, and MGMT will all be there. Add those bands to the bands that are already rumored (The Cure, Depeche Mode, Muse, Atoms for Peace) and ACL has the potential to be one of the best festivals this year (if you like those bands as much as me of course). I know, this is the Sasquatch board and nothing beats the atmosphere and people at Sasquatch, but since I live in Texas now at least I have this to be super excited about.

It was pretty decent. It's hard to explain but Texas beers all have a certain taste to them. I don't know what it is because even when they use the same hops and malts as a good west coast beer the results are totally different. West coast beers are super smooth so this beer was very refreshing compared to the local stuff that I drink more often.
The strange thing is that most Texas breweries make damn good Hefeweizen. Some of the best I have ever tried. What's the deal?

Street Sweeper Social Club was good only because Tom Morello is one of my favorite guitar players so I was just in awe of seeing him up close.
My least favorite performance was either Feist or Starfucker.

The most exciting thing that happened to me at that show was when I tried to help a girl who was pale/green and barely functional and having her friends think I was a cop. I looked them in the eyes and said "Dudes I have done almost every drug imaginable and this girl needs help, so just tell me what she is on so I can help you". They all looked at me and assured me that none of them had taken anything and then they all bailed on her except for one of them who stood there nervously. Then I tried dealing directly with the girl and she denied taking anything as she barely propped herself up against a post. She told me she just had a headache. Then her and her one decent friend got up and bailed out the back.
Other than that, the show was very uneventful.

You have to give the 80's to metal. Metallica or Guns n' Roses....mostly Slash.

The 70's are tricky, but I'll stand by Floyd. When I listen to Pink Floyd I am enveloped in emotion, my life flashes before my eyes, and I am dead to the world until the album is over. Pink Floyd definitely wins.
