This album has been growing on me very intensely. Some of the lyrics hit very close to home and I love that Matt is experimenting more with his voice.
The second half of the album is stronger than the first half--my favorite song is probably Pink Rabbits. My favorite album is still Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers but this one is a great addition to the collection. Another dreary album that will most certainly drive my wife crazy after I overplay it a thousand times at 3am.
Matt doesn't disappoint with the great lyrics once again:
"Oh, everyday I start so great, then the sunlight dims. Less I've learned, the more I see the pythons and the limbs. Do not know what's wrong with me, sours in the cup. When I walk into a room I do not light it up. Fuck."
"As the free-fall advances, I'm the moron who dances. I was teething on roses, I was in guns and noses"
"Remember when you lost your shit and drove the car into the garden, and you got out and said I’m sorry to the vines and no one saw it? I need my girl. I need my girl."
Did anyone catch them when they were on Colbert? The interview with Matt was probably one of the most awkward interviews I have ever seen.
More people = more revenue. If Sasquatch is going to attempt to compete with other festivals they're simply going to have to charge more. Sasquatch will always have roughly 30,000 people. Every other festival on earth is able to expand year after year.
I have been saying it for a couple years now but the Gorge should turn the old parking lot area that barely gets used into another stage area. I know you won't have the beautiful view but they could put a huge stage over there. They would have to reconDr. Garbanzoure the main gate somehow though.
Switch, I hope you didn't read what I wrote as sarcastic 'cause it totally isn't! I would be there in a second if I had the money. I'm just super bummed that I don't, and that I'll have no vacation time left by then. (Though the quitting option and using unemployment to fund a trip isn't too far-fetched of a plan)
At first I didn't think you were being sarcastic and then I started to read it like that--like you were making fun of my proposal to sleep on the floor. I started to wonder if you were trying to tell me in a sarcastic way that nobody would want to go through all of the trouble to secure money to go all the way to Austin just to sleep on the damn floor. Then I was embarrassed for a little while. Haha. It's all good! I wish you could come, I always enjoy hanging out with you!

You might be right but I will never count Bassnectar out of any festival regardless of past lineups.
If you look at his tour page he has dates all the way up to the Voodoo fest in November in Louisiana and the bottom of the page says "more festival dates to be added". I know there are a million music festivals (JamBase has 326 listings) but ACL is one of the last major festivals to be announced besides Fun Fun Fun Fest, which is also in Austin. I know he was there last year but this guy seems to be a festival staple these days. In fact I am seeing him at the Free Press Summer Fest next month! Haha.
And I am an idiot because that Thievery Corporation date was from their tour date archive. They were there last year. Derp.
Yeah, I realize that it is a long shot that anyone will be able to make the trip but I thought I would at least make the offer. It makes the decision a little easier knowing that you don't have to try to find a place to stay in a city that is surely booked solid by now. And the hotel room is in downtown! Walking distance to the party district and the festival! I miss partying with you people!
Tonight is the night! I am super pumped but waiting until October is going to be tough because I think this lineup is going to be up there with Sasquatch 2010.
So far the bands confirmed or heavily rumored are:
The Cure, Depeche Mode, Muse, D’Angelo, Atoms for Peace, Neko Case, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Portugal. the Man, Toro y Moi, Local Natives, Thao With The Get Down Stay Down, The Joy Formidable, Kaskade, Smith Westerns, Grouplove, Junip, Bear Mountain, Shovels & Rope, True Believers, Haim, Fun., Shuggie Otis, My Jerusalem, Vintage Trouble, Not In The Face.
I also found out by accident today that Cloud Cult is highly likely! I am on their mailing list and they sent out an email which stated that they would be concluding their 2013 tour for their new album on the west coast on May 12th. I replied to the email with "You aren't coming to Texas?? I was so excited to hear the new album live!" I sent the email with no intention of getting a reply but I was pleasantly surprised when there was a reply in my inbox just a short time later that read: "We will be headed your way in October. Stay chuned"
These are my other guesses based on tour dates, wishes, and pure rampant speculation:
The National, MGMT, Matt and Kim, Boys Noize, Bassnectar (you can pretty much add him to any festival lineup these days and there is a 99% chance you will be correct), Crystal Castles, Kendrick Lamar.
Like Wonk said before, we have a large triple hotel room in downtown Austin booked for weekend 2 so if this ends up being a lineup that somebody here just can't miss (it's already super solid) you should come party in Texas with Wonk, my hot wife, and myself; Stamper and Catherine Sun Chips will also be at the fest that weekend. We definitely have room for one more person and can probably accommodate two more if someone doesn't mind sleeping with Wonk on the floor or couch if there is one.
