If at least half of these acts aren't on the lineup I'm not going:
M. Ward Dr. Dre ("Dextox" has early 2011 release date) Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings Machine Sublime with Rome Bright Eyes (Final Album has Feb release date) Red Hot Chili Peppers Rilo Kiley Half Pint Beck Oakley Hall Radiohead Black Angels The Felice Brothers Norm Macdonald (comedian) Dave Attell (comedian) Nick Swardson (comedian) The Roots DeadMau5 Vince Mira Carl Broemel Azure Ray Kid CuDi Brett Dennen Okkervill River David Dondero
I like how you overlooked the 40,000 difference in attendance, and the extra 20 million in revenue, and went straight to the point that Sasquatch currently costs about the same to attend as Coachella. No one here cares, we all bought early.
Let me rephrase my point since you are not getting it.
My Point: Get a couple superstars and surround them with garbage OR get a solid lineup top to bottom, with no easy outs.
There is no doing both at Sasquatch. They are not going to spend the same amount as Coachella, because they won't get that extra 20 million in revenue that Coachella does. So it would be like the Devil Rays having Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez for ten years, surrounded by talentless hitters, then deciding it would be best to downgrade two spots in order to upgrade the other seven.
Very important day to remember, April 29th. That was the day last year when Saturday and Sunday tickets sold out, by far the earliest sell out. If any day sells out before April 29th, your stance is going to look much worse.
I'm done. You can have the last word.
I think maybe you didn't go to college and you have trouble understanding things you read.
My point: This year isn't solid top to bottom. They are taking in more money this year than any other year, yet have spent far less for the fans.
I never stated that sasquatch could or should spend as much as coachella. The point was sasquatch has spent the money in the past like coachella and is perfectly able to book actual headliners, but for the first time ever didn't. You are asserting that this is the first good sasquatch ever and i think that is wrong and stupid. The selling out date is also stupid. Many people buy tickets to events they think will sell out to sell them for a shitload of money and this has been and will continue to be the case with sasquatch regardless of the lineup until a year comes where it doesnt sell out and they cant rape late comers. The date it sells out doesn't mean shit, as sasquatch has been getting more and more national and international press each year and people now travel for the experience (don't tell me you haven't noticed an obscene amount of canadian flags around there lately).
PS-whoever posted that chili peppers with madonna video is hilarious and should be properly commended.
EDIT: And in no way am I saying LiveNation/Ticketmaster doesn't have the budget that Goldenvoice does, just that they don't have the extra 40,000 people spending $500 a pop. That would be an extra 20 million to pay for three bigger headliners, and additional staff to accommodate those extra 40,000. And I'm not criticizing your musical taste either, just making fun of the Chili Peckers.
You may not realize this but Sasquatch is actually more expensive than Coachella. A 3 day pass to Coachella with camping will cost you 370 dollars right now and the same set up at Sasquatch will cost about 400 dollars. Compare the money they are spending on acts and the the money sasquatch is spending on acts and try to tell me again that we aren't being ripped off by Live Nation.
I actually left Coachella before Prince even took the stage. However, Sasquatch has been going for on for nine years and have never had any sort of problem "affording" real headliners, so what makes this year different? To go back to your analogy, it would be like if the Devil Rays had Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez for the last ten years but now out of nowhere just can't afford real players so they are going to play a bunch of quality minor leaguers. Logically, your argument that they can't afford big names doesn't follow based on the fact that sasquatch has had big names every single year except this year and it actually costs more to attend Sasquatch than Coachella.
I think the headliners for Saturday and Monday this year are actually almost on par with other years of Sasquatch but they need to spend a couple bucks and get ONE actual headliner this year. I'm not saying they can or should add 3 huge names, just one to justify the ticket prices. I don't think that is unreasonable considering the 400 dollars cost just for tickets and camping. I've never seen the Chili Peckers play anywhere, so its not like im a superfan, just one of many possible bands they could get to fill up the lineup. I mean really, who wants to watch the Devil Rays play? Their lineup is lacking and boring. See my point? Sasquatch now costs more to attend than Coachella, but a Yankees game will cost a lot more than a Devil Rays game.
^^^Your favorite albums of the year were from the Felice Brothers and Monsters of Folk. I agree, they are both great albums and I commend you on your musical tastes. What bothers me is that Adam Snacks has gone out and gotten a dozen acts that are musically similar to these acts - but you only want to see two of them!!!
Dr. Dog, City and Colour, Mumford and Sons, Midlake, Vetiver, Edward Sharpe, Tallest man on Earth, The Low Anthem, MMJ, She and Him, The Mountain Goats, the long winters...
You may not like all of them, that's understandable, but honestly open your eyes!
You want diverse tastes, but at the same time you want huge headliners...well evidently that can't happen at this facility if Adam Snacks wants to guarantee a profit he is comfortable with (and I am certainly okay with him making a healthy profit - he puts on what has annually been one of my favorite weekends).
And you didn't pay $270 for those tickets, so don't start claiming that you did, you bought them when they were cheaper, and suffered the risk of a lineup that paid off for all of us, except you.
You raise some interesting points and I appreciate your tact and appreciate the fact that you know who the felice brothers are.
However, because he got similar acts doesn't mean I have to like them. If someone likes 50 cent, do they have to like Kanye West? No. They are both rappers but they are different acts. I'm not a genre person, but rather I'm into certain artists in many genres and dislike many artists in those same genres. Just because I really, really like MMJ doesn't mean that I have to love Dr. Dog. Instead I would have liked to see The Felice Brothers, Oakley Hall, The Black Angels or any number of smaller national acts that I think kick ass. Its not that I don't know these bands this year, I'm just not really into their stuff. There are a lot of bands playing and I definitely like more than the two that you claim but overall its a big disappointment to me. In a way you're proving my point...there are too many bands that are too similar on the lineup and I suppose that sums up much of my complaint. I have no problem with the bands that are going to be there but I would like some musical diversity. I know everyone will say LCD soundsystem is very diverse from she and him, and they will be right but there are a bunch of similar bands to those two also playing as you pointed out. I don't ever love every band that comes to sasquatch, nobody except adam zachs does. I've been to four sasquatchs (didn't go last year though) and I loved the lineups and just because I don't agree with this year's lineup doesn't mean that I have bad taste in music. Were all those other years that I loved bad lineups then and this is the first good one, because that is the implication when I'm accused of having bad tastes?
I want A big headliner at least one night. I didn't like it when R.E.M. was a headliner but at least I didn't feel ripped off and there were pretty big subheadliners playing before them. They are a big band and it justified the cost of the weekend, even though they sucked. But the Cure fucking rocked, and if they add a big name like that this year, at least there is a chance to have an amazing night like that one. It seems like they got the up and comers, got the subheadliners and then stopped short of a complete lineup.
Yes, I did take a gamble by buying tickets early but that was based on the outstanding lineups of the previous years, which in my opinion, this year fell far short of. I know people who bought tickets this week and they had to pay over 270 dollars, which is a ripoff considering the long list of still up and coming bands with no true headliners (except maybe MMJ but I saw them at Coachella and they were subheadliners for Roger Waters perfoming Dark Side of the Moon, see the difference). They weren't in love with the lineup, but like you, they enjoy the weekend away at the gorge and don't believe that the true headliners have been announced yet, so they coughed up the money anyways. It is literally 400 dollars just for the tickets and the camping for people who want to buy now, and most people did not take the risk at get them early.
I love up and coming bands and that's one thing I love about sasquatch but they need to mix it up and spend a little bit of that 12 dollar a beer money on something. It's perfectly plausible that I won't even like an added headliner but at least I won't feel like I'm being taken advantage of if they do add one. I'm all for them making a nice buck but they need to justify the price tag with bigger acts to accompany the up and comers. To repeat myself, a true "deep lineup" also includes heavy hitters. I personally think there will be an addition of a bigger name for Sunday but maybe not.
Ooooooh Pavement, wow a shitty indie boy band is reuniting, they still bore.
I swore off issuing threats of physical violence over this board a long time ago, so I'm going to skip the "For the love of god, find me at the festival so I can punch you in the face" response and head right to the please just leave the board because you are stupid and no one here gives a shit about your ridiculous opinions.
You hate Pavement. You like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. For the love of god, SELL YOUR SASQUATCH TICKETS and GO TO THE WARPED TOUR.
If you think pavement has more musical talent than the Chili Peppers, you are flat out wrong and obviously do not play any instruments. Which is a more enjoyable band to you is a matter of opinion, but as far as musicianship, there is no comparison. Just because a band is popular doesn't mean they suck (Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and the list go on). Even read the description for pavement on the sasquatch website, it goes on and on about their boyish good looks. Sorry man, I'm into music, not pretty boy faces. And while we're on faces, go ahead and punch mine, I'm a big guy, it won't hurt nor will it change the fact that you are a childish asshole.
Do people really "find eachother at the festival" and fight (this sounds like a Nickleback Fest)???? Listen I've been reading this board for a while and interstateeight ya need to lighten up, it is a little embarassing to this board. People can have terrible taste in music, it's okay. It doesn't look okay when you see playground threats and lame name calling. Do I want the Chillis's to headline? Not at all, but I'm not disturbed by someone asking for it. So cool it, and you can start by just leaving things be, try not to post back to this.
Also I have to say the Pavement crack was pretty funny, as a long time fan I totally have reservation about why they are back now and should I be excited.
Finally a reasonable human being. And why all the focus on the chili peppers? I mentioned many other bands and only mentioned the peppers because they would add greater diversity to the lineup, more accessibility, I've never seen them live before, Flea is perhaps the greatest bassist of all-time, it would justify the 270 dollars for the 3-day passes (sorry, that money isn't being passed on the Ween, its being pocketed by Live Nation) and they have a new album coming out. The stated porpoise of sasquatch is to cater to those in the NW who have DIVERSE musical tastes. I'm tired of hipster fucks who only listen to what is "in" that week with their bullshit crowd. It is the same mentality that MTV motherfuckers have. My favorite albums of 09 were by the Monsters of Folk and The Felice Brothers...if you guys don't like my music then fuck off. Punch me in the face, haha, I'd be glad to meet up with you if I end up not selling my tickets, that would be hilarious! Getting punched by a male pavement fan, hahahaha, what would be funnier? I better keep my thoughts about the new kids on the block to myself though given your affinity for 90's boy bands, you might want to shoot me instead of just punching me.
I see. Well, here's hoping that the beloved Red Hot Chili Peppers don't jump on the bill so that you can sell your tickets, you tasteless fuck.
If liking My Morning Jacket, She and Him, Pubic Enemy, Camera Obscura, Kid Cudi, and yes, The Red Hot Chili Peppers makes me a tasteless fuck in your opinion, what does that make you? I'd say small-minded and a follower. I'm tired of everyone talking about the "deep lineup" this year. FYI-to follow the baseball analogy, a true deep lineup includes at least one heavy hitter, and this year sasquatch has none. Ooooooh Pavement, wow a shitty indie boy band is reuniting, they still bore.
Are you fucking stupid or something? This thread is called "If you don't like the lineup then post here". I don't like the lineup and I posted here.
Granted, you do have "immunity" in this thread, I'll give you that. But I don't understand what your motives for coming on the board solely to complain are? Do you have a goal in mind? Is this your way of "venting"? I am seriously interested in the psychology behind this.
I imagine my motives are similar to you coming on solely to rejoice about the lineup and berate those that do not. That what the board is for, to express your opinions, whether positive or negative. It doesn't take a psychology degree to figure that one out.
Worst Sasquatch lineup ever. I'm excited to see MMJ, She and Him, Public Enemy, New Pornographers and Broken Social Scene. I'm not interested in a single band playing on Saturday and historically, that has always been my favorite day at sasquatch. Get the Red Hot Chili Peppers (hell they headlined the always terrible endfest a couple years ago, so don't pretend that is impossible). Good god, it took me days to get over how bad the lineup is. A large group of us had planned on going this year and now everybody bailed after this travesty.
I'm sorry, but didn't you just say you were selling your tickets?
I won't be selling them if the lineup improves...its a wait and see thing at this point. Festivals often announce acts after the initial lineup. I want to go, thats why I bought tix in advance, but it looks like I will have to sell. Here's to hoping that I don't.
methodacting, PUT UP OR SHUT THE FUCK UP. Get your tickets on Craiglist. The lineup will not improve, it's going to stay like this.
I understand the joy of trolling a forum, I do, but you seem legitimately disappointed about the lineup. So fucking what? We are all clearly excited; we all have passes -- you're not going to change any of our minds. Do you think Adam Snacks is going to visit this board? Adam Snacks doesn't know we exist; he doesn't give a shit about us. If he stumbled upon this board he would read your posts and then go back to BOOKING HIS FAVORITE BANDS and COUNTING STACKS OF MONEY.
Really, what the fuck are you even doing here? Aside from my general irritation with your Whiny Bitch Syndrome, NO ONE HERE GIVES A SHIT.
Are you fucking stupid or something? This thread is called "If you don't like the lineup then post here". I don't like the lineup and I posted here. What the fuck is your problem? That's what this thread is for, BITCHING about the disappointing lineup. If I'm bringing you down, stay the fuck off the "I'm disappointed in the lineup" thread dumbshit. Fuck Adam Snacks, he brought in a bunch of good cheap bands to line his pockets even more. I'm glad a lot of the acts are coming but I feel ripped off based on my previous four years.
