hey guys, wanted to give you a heads up on this. we can hope for a little jeff mangum going around to the those. additionally, word of mouth from nyc said there should be a tour next march for the most notable e6 band (with a most flamboyant frontman). i'm assuming it's for their 'the controller's sphere' EP out next year/second round for the LP. and i'm assuming the timing is for festival circuits, but i didn't hear about festivals. let's just book friendly fires, face to face, and funkmaster flex so the mainstage on friday can just have the FF logo up all day. and then we can focus on getting more dad rock for the other days.

i'm talking about being condescending with listening tastes. it's not you who decides mediocre music. and just because i listen to a lot of new albums doesn't mean i steal music either. i know asking for restaint on a board will never happen, but i might as well ask. i mentioned enjoying the miniature tigers album, and you immediately made terribly incorrect assumptions.
as for the stealing.. yes, i agree. i am a huge proponent of attending shows.. as that is where the bands make their money these days. i know so many people that download, so i force them to come with me to see bands live. since i work at the radio station and get the albums for free, i do all i can to go to philly once a week for something to give back. and i also can't wait for a system where people have to actually pay for things that please them. it's not because i want to support artists that are trying to make a living off of music, it's because people should be rewarded for their art - especially if it leaves a lasting impression on people.

just because you buy physicals doesn't mean be condescending.
sure fortress is simpler. but mediocre? well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man.

i mean, i guess it's true. i get all my cds from the radio station so i technically don't pay for it either.
i think fortress is incredibly successful as a catchy pop album. and it has enough changes, depth, and great production to be interesting for more than a hot minute.

haha. High Violent would have been such a misleading album title for all that melancholy.

Has many people listened to Born Ruffians? I think they would fit in perfectly red yellow & blue was one of my favorite from 08. i like that it's so raw. & they would be great at sasquatch. but i gotta admit, say it didn't grow on me much at all.

pitchfork tv is pretty great, the live performances and interviews of bands are awesome. and i think the website as a whole is definitely awesome and i support that it's an incredible resource.
but, what they did for their little nyc anti-cmj festival was really dick. and sometimes it seems like their score is just to please their readers. and on a greater scale, it seems to be turning the 'kinda-into-hip-new-music' population into this entity sharing one mind and one set of ears, and that's scary. like mtv all over again scary. that's why i don't use the site, and haven't for a couple years. i feel like we need a lot of outlets for finding new tunes, not just following one.
& i'm not talking you and me or other people here, i mean those friends of ours just kind of into the new music scene and they all bring up the same bands after reading the top reviews.

If it's more of a collaboration these days I really don't understand how Mumford & Sons would have earned a 2.1 with their album. Say what you want about them, but 2.1 is a ridiculous score for that album. that score blew my mind. MPP initially got a 8.# i believe, but ended up at the top of the year with a 9.6. not a huge swing, but still. as for a better site? i mean, i tell others to use stereogum for new tracks, cmj charts for albums. actually, i found inyourspeakers.com via last.fm at some point and while i don't agree with half the grades, the reviews are very helpful, decipherable, honest, and don't pander.

+1 for the volta
i can't listen to fall of troy but my friend swears by it. screamo over math rock is impossible to listen to. but if you can get past, putting time signatures to it is ridiculous.
also, you know your younger brother is awesome when you come home for thanksgiving break and walk in to hear this on piano (yeah i know it's in 4/4 and everyone knows it):

best coast and wavves aren't stopping in seattle despite stopping in Vancouver, Victoria, and Portland...did one of them play seattle recently, it seems kind of strange. Also what about The Strokes, they announced today the new album is done and needs to be mixed, there could be a big tour in the works for this summer. i hope for 0 of these bands. but having best coast and wavves will really lighten the crowd up on other stages so..

Heh, "defending him" might be a little strong. Let's call a spade a spade. The guy can shred, but given the opportunity I would shit in his mouth. +1 I also more went for Ben Folds not really for Mayer. But added bonus of solid guitar work is much appreciated. I closed my ears whenever he used the microphone.
