So, the fact that we're discussing computer programming on the girly thread seems, um, inappropriate or something. Why?

Deleted possible tasteless joke. LOL I saw that and made an equally dumb joke. If anyone thinks I am actually serious in any way shape or form I assure you that I am not.

The main reason I picked clothes and kitty cats as the stereotypical things girls like is so I could post a picture like that.

SEXISM DEBATE!!!

Yes, thanks for that. I wasn't trying to start some kind of argument, just asking a legitimate question. I should be able to call attention to something without it being a huge deal.

We are about due for another one...
In J-dawg's defence I dont think he was implying that girls arent interested in computer programming (if anyone would know on this board it's him, doing it for a living I'm sure he has encountered female programmers) but more that the girly thread isnt the place for it since it was created to discuss sterotypical girly things like shoes and clothes.
Damn that was a long sentence.

Yet there was just a two page conversation about festival sex.
I do not think J-Dawg meant any offense. He is a stand up dude. I just think it is fair to take a step back and look at that comment and the context it is in.

Yeah, didn't mean to offend any ladies. Although they're definitely in the minority, (I'd say about 10% based on my experiences so far), there are plenty of women who write software for a living. This is probably partly a reflection of the lack of women in science and engineering in general, not just this particular slice of it.
What I meant was more along the lines that it seemed odd to have a discussion about computer programming on a thread that isn't really meant for that.
Plus, it still feels strange to me that the Girly thread seems to have more male posters than female ones... Of course, I'm part of the problem here.

Every thread is every thread... and we still only have four regular female posters.

Yeah, mostly I was saying that if every thread is every thread (whch it obviously is), then I don't know why that subject would be any more or less appropriate.
