I have so little of a life that I'm actually considering watching the entire series of Lost so that I actually understand all of the references.

My sister (absolutely batshit crazy obsessed Lost fan/Lost Ebay paraphernalia addict) god bless her, bought me a shirt for Christmas that says "Guns dont kill people, Michael Kills people", She said it's from the show, I can neither confirm nor deny this. This is hilarious.

Well, I'm fairly sure the cast of Lost will not be headlining... (yes your tshirt is from lost.. though Michael wasn't really a killer... weird) makes more sense after seeing your edit. I really have no good way of bringing us back to topic... Chemical Brothers please! didn't Michael kill Libby? and back to headliners, I seriously think it's going to be someone who has said they aren't starting their tour for months. Some band who is almost ready to go, but don't have any dates until like August. This is why I'm still holding out hope for Daft Punk.

The Lost writers were all like, "Whatever the island is, it's DEFINITELY not purgatory." Then they get to the end of the show and they're like, "Oh fuck, what's going on in this show? Didn't the fans used to think that the island was purgatory or somethin'?" "Well, yeah but we said all this time that it isn't..." "Fuck it. The island is purgatory. Moving on..."

The island was real. They never implied at the end that it was purgatory. The whole funeral/gathering of the juggalos thing was the only purgatory involved in the show.

Bulllll shiiiiiit. Jack collapsed at the end in the same spot he was in when he 'woke up' after the crash. The whole thing happened inside his head, or rather inside a collective subspace shared by the 'survivors'.

I'd just like to think the entire show was a manifestation projected inside Hurley's wacky mental hospital brain.

Can we have some sort of spoiler alert, people? It's one thing to ruin a 2 hour movie, but another to ruin a super-long TV series. (I've only gotten up to episode 4 of the first season.)

s'okay. That was half-joking.
I don't know if I have the patience to watch that ENTIRE series anyway, though I do find it interesting.

Moving on..." SPOILER / RANT ALERT Nahh, everything on island was real and totally DID happen, it was the whole season six "sideways" reality that was basically bullshit. When Jack dies on island at the very end of the show, it's the purgatory that he wakes up in, on a version of flight 815 that never crashes. There are a few times during the season that Purgatory-Jack looks in the mirror and notices a growing, mysterious scar on his neck, remnants of the very same scar that Locke gives him on island by attempting to knife Jack the fuck out during their ridiculous cliff battle. So, in short, the island and the crash and the whole main plot of the show is very real, and obviously has to be in order for the whole purgatory/afterlife thread to make any sense at all. For the record, my personal opinion here is that the ISLAND ending is pretty well done, and because of that I generally enjoyed the finale. But the sideways/purgatory plotline is utterly bullshit, for SO many reasons, but most of all because it feels like the writers granting themselves an easy way out by manipulating viewers' emotions and providing an unnecessary happy ending for all of its poorly treated characters. It's pretty tragic considering the amount of awesome that could've gone on had they actually tightened their focus and given us a flash free final season that didn't meander through memory town every few minutes. The lack of answers the show ultimately gave us doesn't even bother me (I think most of the important ones can be pieced together based on the clues the show dropped over its run), it's the amount of energy the writers wasted on such a cop out when they had a beautiful, perfectly executed final scene (Jack dying where he first woke up on the island, finally redeemed and fulfilled as the plane flies away) that didn't NEED any follow up.

We're saving you the trouble, lumpy. That show goes to shit after the first season and never makes any sense after that. Anyway, most of what me and Pea said is speculation because the end is such an ambiguous cop-out that I don't think we could actually tell you what happens if we tried. The only thing I can say in favor of spending the time to watch it is that you have the option of letting it take up only a month or so of your life instead of the six years we put into it.
Speaking of cop-outs: Dexter Season 5. They should have just ended it, last season was pretty pathetic.

Meanwhile, there's a TV discussion thread in the General Chat section now, we should move this over there.
