That's the perfect way to put it, Pea! Winter Ales certainly warm your soul. I'd love one right now--we got hit with almost 8 inches of snow last night and I could go for a warm fuzzy inebriation tonight! Edit: Never heard of that one Stormy. I'm assuming its local/west coast specifically distributed?

Yea, Jubelale is a pretty popular NW winter warmer. Deschutes Brewing, if I'm not mistaken? My all time favorite has to go to Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale. I swear it's made by Santa's elves.

I lied. I found a new one this year that totally knocked my socks off. Widmer's "Brrr" is hands down my favorite now. If Celebration Ale is made by elves then Brrr is made by the jolly fat man himself. Strange, because I despise Widmer beers for the more part but this one is a serious home run.

Ahh--Deschutes? I think I've had their Black Butte Porter. I wish I wasn't flying to Sasquatch. Otherwise, we'd come back smuggling all kindsa tasty brews from the NW. I definitely plan on taking at least a six pack of Moose Drool with me.
Haven't tried the Sierra Nevada one. I had some ah-mazing winter ales this season, but for the life of me, I can't name them. Stay tuned--I may remember!

Y'know, speaking of beers you don't like, I've heard from so many people that weyerbacher beers are good, but I guess I haven't found its in yet. I've tried a few and most of them just end up tasting subpar in comparison to some cheaper microbrews.

Brrr is ok but a little sweet for me.

Brrr doesn't have the body to back up its flavor.

Hmm I don't think I've tried anything from Weyerbacher.

Brrr doesn't have the body to back up its flavor. Really? I find it to be pretty amazing for a reasonably priced 6 pack.

I'd take it over the Sierra-Nevada any day (not a fan), but especially when you hold it up against a Jubel or Santa's Private Reserve it feels too light. Good flavor but a weak finish.

Fuck! I forgot about Santa's Private Reserve. I'm done talking about winter warmers, I'm just getting thirsty now.

Hmm I don't think I've tried anything from Weyerbacher. They're out of PA, I believe. I've seen it a few times here in Pitt and also in GA. Perhaps they're strictly an East Cast thing, but here's the link: weyerbacher.com/about/

Oh my god that Double Simcoe IPA sounds amazing. I need to track that one down for sure. Thanks, Cat!

I just tried Elysian Jasmine IPA. I didn't like it at first. It was strange, it tasted really sweet to me at first....almost like Pyramid Apricot. By the time I was finishing it the flavor was more bitter than sweet, unlike when I started. It ended up being a decent beer, nothing extraordinary though.

Errrr yea I hated the Jasmine.

Jasmine? In the beer? I suppose that makes sense, since there are jasmine infused teas out there, but it doesn't sound tasty. This could also be because IPAs aren't my typical go-to beers. I'll make an exception for summer time, but I mainly stick to chocolaty, coffeeish, vanillaish, etc. type darker ales. Ah, and Lumps...you said you like stouts, yeah? Ever tried this? Its beyond amazing. Its like chocolate milk, but its booze. mmmm.
