Today was just one of those days that necessitated a trip to the liquor store, so here is my haul for today:
In the mug (and on the right) is Solstice d'hiver, which is an amazing barleywine (9.8% ABV). The first few batches were a little bit too heavy on the hops, but it has been brought down and while still hoppy it is much better.
On the left is Rigor Mortis, an belgian brown all that comes in at 10.5% ABV and is currently one of my favorite beers, although both being such big beers means they can sneak up on you
IN fact, I cracked 3 bottles for this photo op- guess I'll have a good afternoon.
I visited Empty this weekend and drank about 400,000 different beers. Had an amazing porter called Black Death at some sports bar with frog in the name. And then he bought me one of the tastiest IPA's I've ever had at the Alibi Room. No idea who it was by or what it was called, but god damn was it amazing. I was also sloshed so maybe that had an effect on my opinion.
That IPA was awesome! It was from Swans in Victoria and was one of the cask's they had available.
Sweet, I haven't heard of Swans. I'm always looking for new breweries to try. I'm also planning a brewery touring trip to Victoria later this summer, so I'll add it to the list!
Was the place Pea was talking about the Black Frog? I figure it is because I know you were in Gastown. I've been there once and really enjoyed myself. The only other "frog" bar I can think of is the Frog and Firkin, but I think they closed down.
