At the end of "An Attempt to Tip the Scales (great song)" there is a fake interview with Conor (actually Mike Mogis pretending to be Conor), and he talks about how he had 5 brothers drown in the bathtub. His mom drowned one every year for 5 consecutive years and they were all named Patrick. They brought this up in this fake interview as a joke because of the rumor that had spread that the song "Padraic My Prince" was referring to Conors own brother. It is not real.
Straight from the Saddle Creek website: "On the track "Padraic My Prince," off Bright Eyes' 1998 LP Letting off the Happiness, Oberst sings about a baby brother drowning in a bathtub while his mother hears the cries but does nothing to save him, fueling false speculation that the tragedy mirrored a real-life incident."

Have you guys heard very much Bright Eyes? I understand that a lot of people hate Conor because they think he is a crybaby and too depressing but he has put together some amazing music. He is rocks' "boy genius". He was in very successful bands when he was only like 15 years old. He wrote Bright Eyes' first album when he was like 17. He isn't just a insignificant artist. Okay, I will stop now because I know this is not going to change anyones opinion. Check out Cassadaga though if you want to hear some good stuff. The song "Coat Check Dream Song" is awesome. ;D

I've listened to a lot of Bright Eyes. I even have one of those "our songs" with a chick I dated a couple years ago. The reason I don't care for him anymore is because I'm kissing up to Horned Gramma I saw Monsters of Folk live, and everything M. Ward and Jim James did pretty much ruled, and every Conor Oberst tune was somewhat painful (especially that one eight minute song, shit man, killing me softly).
I'll give his new album a proper three listens if I hate it, and five if I don't. I'll even see him at Coachella and/or Sasquatch if nothing else interests me at that slot. Just don't expect me to be sporting a pirated Bright Eyes t-shirt.

Beirut played at Treasure Island in 2009. One of my girlfriend's coworkers was drunk, and spent like three minutes talking about how Zach Condon is a prodigy, he's a genius, he's done so much of this and he's so young, etc. Three minutes doesn't sound like a lot of time, but her point could have been made in ten seconds. It's become something of a joke to solemnly observe, whenever Beirut is tangentially brought up in conversation, that "Zach Condon is a prodigy, man, a total genius."

I'll give his new album a proper three listens I actually just listened to the new album. I hate to say this, it really kills me to say this actually, but I am not that happy. The things I love about Conor's works are the raw, sloppy, and genuine aspects. The new album is overworked and full of gimmicks. I love a couple of the songs on the new album but overall I am kind of shocked. Bright Eyes is still my favorite band though. RIGHT KID IS ALIVE!!!

I have no memory of this but apparently after a japanther show I spent a long time rambling at the drummer with the highlight being when I asked him if he had heard one of his own albums.

I gave it a second listen and I am also bored by it. Like a bunch of songs that weren't good enough to make it on Digital Ash.

Tomboy. I've only heard the first single and the B-side, and was definitely way more into the b-side. Has anyone heard any of the other singles?
