Just got back from seeing The Green Hornet. I didn't go into it with Dark Knight expectations (then again, who would?) nor have I ever read the comics (was it a comic or a novel?) I'm not the biggest Seth Rogan fan either. That being said, the film was actually pretty enjoyable. Loads of action and a good dose of comedy. The asian guy who played the sidekick was what made the film better than expected. Not a typical super hero movie.

We did Black Swan last night. I got out of it exactly what I expected to get out of it; I thought it was great. Beautifully shot, and it is right at home in Aronofsky's filmography. Everyone was incredible in it; Natalie Portman WILL get an Oscar for it.
The mother was so much like Ellen Burstyn's character in 'Requiem for a Dream' that I'm starting to think that that is probably what Aronofsky's mother is really like. Creepy.

I have been hearing so much positive feedback about this movie. Will definitely check it out, thanks again.

The Social Network cleaned house last night on the Golden Globes. Certainly has to appear as the frontrunner for the Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Even Trent Reznor won a Globe for scoring the soundtrack. Pretty impressive honor for the former Nine Inch Nails man!

Redbox marathon yesterday, catching all the movies I didn't feel like paying to see in the theater: Get Him to the Greek, The Last Exorcism, The Kids are All Right and Dinner for Schmucks. They all had their charms, but Get Him to the Greek was the best of the four. REALLY fucking funny, I was surprised. The Last Exorcism really caught me off guard; very creepy. The Kids are All Right was so self-conscious in its attempt to be relevant that it was kind of off-putting, but I liked a few of the characters. Dinner for Schmucks... we busted out the hash for that one. It's a movie I saw.

Everyone I talked to said it wasn't funny at all, but I found it hilarious.

Yeah I thought Sean p.d Combs was a fucking no talent fool. But after seeing that movie it drastically changed my perception on that front. He was priceless in that movie.

It was totally strange to see Trent Reznor in a tux.
Maybe I smoked a Jeffery and imagined it all...

I loved the music in The Social Network. I mean, the whole movie was great, but Trent did a great job with the score too. It was kinda funny when they all went up to accept the award for best drama and Trent stood behind the entire crowd of people. He's a short guy to begin with, and he certainly did not make himself easy to be seen. It wasn't until one of the side shots that I even realized he was up there. Although I haven't seen all the movies up for it, my pick for that award was between Black Swan and The Social Network. I was leaning toward BS, but TSN was still deserving. I guess we'll see what the Academy has to say about that.
I've been on a movie watching binge as of late, and Black Swan was the best movie of the lot. Probably the best horror film I'm ever seen. Supremely dark and twisted. I really need to see more of Aronofsky's work. The Social Network was also thoroughly enjoyable, but in a very different way. Much lighter, and you go in knowing most of the framework of the story, but they do a great job connecting the dots.
Being a huge Coen Bros fan, True Grit was also high on my list. I'm not usually in the mood for a western, but they put a great spin on it. Great writing, beautiful scenery, and a stellar cast. I can't believe that girl was born in 1996! I look forward to her acting future.
The Kids Are All Right was an interesting take on the "lesbians with kids" family, which was particularly interesting to me because my best friend growing up was in one. I think it was a well done movie that everyone can appreciate, though. The Fighter was also good. Christian Bale is a great actor, and Mark Wahlberg is good at what he does. I don't see him as very dynamic, but he did a good job in this film. It doesn't help that every time I see him these days I think of the SNL sketch where he talks to animals. Hilarious.
Last night I watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and loved it, even though I did figure out some of the plot twists way too quickly. There are some pretty brutal scenes, so this is definitely not one for children or those who get squeamish. Fantastic acting and direction, though. Really looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.
The only movie I've seen recently that I didn't care for is the newest Wall Street movie. I saw the original for the first time a few months ago so it was only a matter of time before I saw the sequel, but the story just didn't do it for me. The only saving grace was that David Byrne did the soundtrack. I don't think I'll ever really like anything that Shia LaBeouf does. Not that I'm really giving it much effort.

Blue Valentine is a bitter, miserable film if anyone cares.

Winter's Bone was a good movie. Reminded me of my childhood and hometown. And John Hawkes.
