Went and saw You're Next tonight and kind of loved it. Definitely worth checking out if you're into that type of movie.

Finally watched Cloud Atlas yesterday; I was pretty disappointed. It was interesting, it looked great, but I was expecting a lot from it and ultimately it ended up just being kind of precious. Oh well.
Re-watched Jake Kasdan's Zero Effect; Bill Pullman is awesome, it's set in Portland and that's awesome... Still pretty awesome.
Oh, and it had been six months since I had seen Annie Hall so definitely did that too.

Our friend Phil suggested the notion this evening of a re-make of A Hard Day's Night with Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Justin Long and Jason Schwartzman. I would be a god-damn liar if I said that I wouldn't watch that one million fucking times.

Anyone heading to see Ender's Game this weekend? I was worried because the previews I saw made it look like they were focusing on FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT SPACE FIGHT and not showing what I really liked about the book, but I've been reading mainly positive reviews (except for the obligatory Orson Scott Card is a dick comments). I'm actually looking forward to it now!

Ender's Game was actually serviceable I thought. It hurt inside to miss all my favorite moments from battle school but that was inevitable, and it got a little synopsis-y, but I thought they captured the themes of the book fairly well.

Also saw All Is Lost with Robert Oldford, which was pretty good. And the other day I watched Upstream Color, the new movie by the guy who did Primer, which was fucking incredible. Favorite movie of the year easily. Absolutely gorgeous and brilliant. It's on Netflix watch it people!

Favorite movie of the year easily. Absolutely gorgeous and brilliant. It's on Netflix watch it people! Upstream Color is my favorite of the year so far as well. It was refreshing to watch a movie where they don't spell everything out for you and instead trust the audience to follow along. On a completely different note, I saw The Spectacular Now last weekend and really loved it. There were a few aspects that bugged me but I thought they wrote teenagers as well as any other movie I've ever seen.

The craziest thing about Upstream Color is how he perfectly catches the feeling the of being in a relationship where you almost have your own language, verbal and nonverbal, with your partner and that feeling of 1000% empathy that's so unique to those kinds of relationships. Also the horrifying scene with the worm and the pig.

So I watched Spring Breakers the other day on Netflix. Someone told me that movie was great, maybe more than one person, but I couldn't stand it. It was beautifully shot, but I just hated it. Is there something I'm missing or is repeating the same lines over and over somehow artistic?
I should probably say that I thought Drive sucked too, and I think they were done by the same guy.

Spring Breakers is the guy from Kids... Drive and Spring Breakers are not related by writers or directors. Harmony Korine is a fucking weirdo, and though I enjoyed parts of Spring Breakers, mostly I found it to be drivel.

He also wrote Ken Park but didn't actually make it. I thought that one was over the top but at least had some redeeming qualities. Kids was alright as well. I don't remember who told me that he did Drive, maybe they just meant that it was a similar style.
He met his wife when she was 17 and he was 30... seems like a creeper all right.
I think half the reason Spring Breakers got any attention is because it has Disney kids running around with guns.

Quantum of Solace was lame, especially since I saw Skyfall first. This has been your Wednesday night old movie update
