Fucking rights! Beginning my Sled Island voyage at Palomino with Saskatchewan heavy rockers Black Thunder before heading to Dickens to have my fucking face melted by SWANS! Then, possibly, off to The Legion for Iceage. Duuuuude, SWANS. I had never seen them before Bonnaroo, incredible stuff. I swear one day those old dudes are gonna break their backs on stage from thrashing so hard. Enjoy!

Fucking rights! Beginning my Sled Island voyage at Palomino with Saskatchewan heavy rockers Black Thunder before heading to Dickens to have my fucking face melted by SWANS! Then, possibly, off to The Legion for Iceage. Oh yeah, Black Thunder eh? Are they pretty sweet? I was thinking of heading over to the Palamino instead of seeing Colin Stetson if it's raining too much (or if I get bored). I'll look out for you dude!

What an great night. It was the perfect start to the fest.
The Palomino was huge fun, and yes, Black Thunder was beyond sweet!! They played a great mix of prog stoner metal.
After that we went and stood in line for 1.5 hours to get into Swans. It was worth it. They played a tiny shithole club with about 300 people and FUCK WAS IT AN EXPERIENCE. Their sound just assaults you and doesn't let go. It was one of the most intense performances I have ever experienced. From there we jetted to another venue to see Iceage. They were pretty decent, but their sound and stage persona gets way to repetitive after awhile. Overall, it was a great way to end the night of heaviness.
On deck for tonight...The Noble Thieves, July Talk, Catl, Meisha and the Spanks, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Suuns.
Womp, or any other local boardies for that matter, we will be hanging around The Palomino pretty much all day tomorrow. If you feel obliged to come by for a visit, shoot me a PM and we will arrange something!!!
Happy Sledding.
EDIT - Got Nine Inch Nails tickets!! Awesome. Still pissed about Autolux, but what can you do.

That's awesome Blacksmile! I'm glad you got into Swans, it was NUTS.
So I started off going to Commonwealth for Colin Stetson, but that was at capacity....so I busted over to see Swans, and the line was insane. Feeling pretty frustrated, and soaking wet, I headed over to Wine-Ohs to dry off, grab some beer and compose myself. Saw Iceberg Ferg, that was pretty sweet. Then my girl Miesha announced a surprise show at the Palamino! Headed over there. She kicked ass, as she always does. Then I rolled over to the Leigon and caught Viet Cong. Then I was walking back to the Palamino and I overheard some people saying they just left Swans and there wasn't a line, so I hopped on my bike and busted my ass back to Dickens and walked right in. Caught the last 45 minutes or so of Swans. Holy shit, it was INTENSE. I didn't think I would like it that much, but HOLY FUCK IT WAS AWESOME! So glad I managed to catch a little bit of it.
After Swans I headed to Broken City to catch UMO, but along with the theme of the evening, totally at capacity.
2013: The year Sled Island got too big. Fuck. Aside from all the frustrations, it was a pretty great night. I'm worried now that I am going to have to rethink my plans for the rest of the weekend. Don't think I'll be able to roll up to a bar 5 minutes before the headliner goes on anymore. Bummer.

Just found out the decentralized dance party is happening tonight in Vic. But sadly, I am officially too old for this shit on a school night. Still looks pretty damn fun though! Event Info

I am so happy that you dudes got to see Swans. 70% of that show was completely new material that is legitimately going to paralyze people when it is released on record.

New material sounded really good on the livestream but it was comically quiet on there. I loved watching it knowing that everyone was getting their eardrums blown out at the show and I'm sitting there on my computer trying to figure out how I could get it louder than barely audible.
btw Burrito, you see the Low recording in the New records topic I posted? Pretty cool drone from last weekend you need to check out.

That Swans stream was a fucking joke. It was one of the only ones I actually remembered to catch and ended up being completely let down.

Yeah it sucks really bad, but definitely understandable given that downtown Calgary is under water, has no power and has been evacuated. I did manage last night to see some great bands, including The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in all their sleazy greatness. That was one of the best shows I have seen, and believe it or not, they were louder than Swans!!! Sunns were also a lot of fun.

WHUT. Who the fux is going to attempt to sing like Bjork. From the website: "A violin made of ice with lion whisker strings will be used to replicate Bjork's voice."

WHUT. Who the fux is going to attempt to sing like Bjork. From the website: "A violin made of ice with lion whisker strings will be used to replicate Bjork's voice." . I totally bought that for a minute there. And was very excited/intrigued. I will make it my life's work to create said instrument.

Seattle dudes. I just discovered these guys and they're fucking awesome. Think Japandroids vs. Fang Island with hilarious lyrics about drinking. They're playing Barboza on July 10th. WHO'S COMING WITH ME!? THEY HAVE FOUR FUCKING GUITARISTS.
There's a pretty awesome bro anthem in the middle of this song...
