raver girls in Halloween costumes? CAN'T WAIT. Most raver girls are already wearing costumes. I can only imagine the addition of bunny ears or devil horns.

I was curious about who would be opening for Battles next week and I found out it was Walls. There wasn't much to listen to out there, but they have a couple pretty good songs on their facebook page. www.facebook.com/wallsband?sk=app_178091127385

Heading to the Aoki / Datsik show since I missed their show with LMFAO last Dec due to Christmas and missed Datsik in April (same night as Tiesto).
That said, I'm a little apprehensive. I bought the ticket to see Datsik, having seen Aoki in the past and been underwhelmed.
And to boot, the venue was changed from the Big 4 to Flames Central, which has a much lower capacity, which annoys me because it was poorly communicated and because it sounds like Flames Central will be at or more likely over capacity and they're segregating the balconies so they can pretend to comply with the fire regulations.
So my current plan is to show up at 9:30 or so, warm up with one of the local DJs (Slim Pickins seems likely) and hope things don't turn into too big a clusterf*ck before the end of Datsik's set. I'll likely leave immediately after, especially with the crowd seeming likely to suck.
I seriously thought about getting a refund after the venue change. Let's hope I don't regret my decision to go anyways.
Any other Calgary folks heading out tomorrow? If so, say hi if you see me...

I decided not to grab a ticket. I would have really liked to see Datsik, but I don't really have any desire to see Aoki again.
Ha ha, a girl I'm dating is going though, should I tell her to look out for a glowing yellow cowboy hat? "GO SAY HI TO MY FRIEND FROM THE INTERNET"

I love that I'm not the only one who creates semi-obsessive lists and then tries to convince friends to go...

Ha ha, do you guys go to shows by yourselves? I've started doing this a lot recently as my friends aren't as hardcore into the concert scene as I am. Hell if I am going to miss a show because I don't have anyone to go with. I usually get drunk and make friends!

I'm only recently warming up to the idea of going to shows solo. It's kind of a weird feeling to experience such a fun event without a friend, but fuck it, I'm just way more into live music than most of the people in my life.

When I was young and unattached I would go to shows by myself all the time. It is fun to just dance and mingle and see music.
Newjersey, do you really not like Avey Tare or was that a joke?

Even though it doesn't happen often, I don't mind going to shows by myself. If I have to go by myself I prefer club shows where there's only one or two bands. I went to see The Deftones on my own and there were four or five other bands on the bill, that got pretty dull after awhile.

I've been to tons of shows where I have been separated from my friends, but I've never gone to a show alone. That being said I'm going to M83 alone in a month, and I'm beyond excited.

I had a ton of fun wandering around downtown at rifflandia by myself, drunk and happy and ducking into different shows as the mood took me.

I go to most of my shows alone. I used to hate the idea of it, but once I bought a ticket for a friend, brought them along with me, and they were awful the entire time, and made me leave early. From then on I decided I wasn't going to ask people to go, I would just meet them there if they were already going. I also started going to movies and dinner alone, just cuz I'm cool like that.
Also, I want to kick people in the face when they tell me 'they had tickets to that show but they couldn't find anyone to go with so they didn't go'.

I've been going to shows on my own for the last year and a bit now. I got fed up with missing out on acts I wanted to see 'cause my friends weren't interested or being forced to leave early, or watch from the back etc. Sometimes it's nice to experience a show with a friend but I'm starting to prefer going alone. And I always end up meeting new people who are as into the band as I am, making for a better experience than dragging along a friend who listened to a couple tracks on iTunes before heading out.

I like how we are all outing ourselves as loners. I've only gone to 1 show alone because I can usually find a friend interested in going and they are polite enough to stay till the end. That one show I was trying to find someone to go with and then it sold out, and I realized I was way more interested in seeing the show than going out with someone.
I probably see 5 or 6 shows alone every year at Sasquatch though. The first year I went to Sasquatch I tried to get at least one of the 4 people I was with to go to a show with me and I ended up missing a few shows I wanted to see. The next years I just said, "I'm going here, who's coming?" Most of the time someone would come but when everyone is drunk at the campground at 2 and not in a terribly motivated mood I will end up seeing a couple shows alone before meeting up with everyone.
I find its actually a lot more social than I thought doing stuff alone. When you are a group of 8 people you dont really talk to people outside the group as much as you do when you are alone. I am also forced to eat dinner alone when I am out of town for work in the middle of nowhere and usually if you hang out in a social area in a bar for a while you can make friends pretty easily. At the very least if you frequent the same place the servers get to know you and pretend to be your friend.
Also, kymess is growing up so fast, 100 posts!

Also, I want to kick people in the face when they tell me 'they had tickets to that show but they couldn't find anyone to go with so they didn't go'. Yes! If you can't stand your own company for a night then maybe you can see why others wouldn't want to either.

I have been going to shows solo a lot lately. Part of that is music preference. That is one of the things about Sasquatch. Most people that I know that like live music like me aren't satisfied with the lineup enough to commit the money and time to it.
