As far as I'm concerned Blitzen Trapper wrote Wild Mountain Nation and said, "Fuck it, we'll never top this," and stopped writing music altogether. Glad I ain't 'da only one who thinks this.

Well, atleast you didn't bash Pinback in this post. I could give a shit about seeing any of those other bands... Except for Beck! Even if his last good albums were Sea Change and Midnite Vultures Except that Modern Guilt is perhaps one of the greatest things he's ever done. and I love both Midnite Vultures and Sea Change. -Replica, Profanity prayers, Soul of a man, Orphans, Youthless. just some of the better songs in my opinion. All hail Beck Hansen.

Regardless, I think he would be an act to see still.

I must say I loved the Better Off Dead references earlier in the thread. To HG I don't take great umbrage at the the fact you just ripped some bands I truly like but I do find your decapitation a little distasteful. This is a festival that in the years I've gone have seemed to be about diversity in musical tastes which I find fantastic as I listen to a lot of varied genres as I'm sure you do as well. Now I do find douche bad destroying as amusing as most, especially considering I used to work in record stores for years where the activity is a dedicated sport. Now days I just feel more the sentiment of the agreement to disagree unless you listen to commercial radio and then for the betterment of society you should just off yourself.
Cheers and I love the board

I'm not being inflammatory; it's pretty obviously true.
"If you don't know what to listen to, well hey, we'll tell you what to listen to." Unless you're a middle aged woman with a desk job, you don't listen to the radio anymore, you read music blogs to discover new music, and for most everyone (at least everyone here, and anyone going to Sasquatch) that means Pitchfork. Unless there's some other explanation for everyone from 17-27 liking the same two dozen godawful bands that a group of shiteating hipsters in Chicago like that I'm missing.

I feel that the masses can only be expected to take such big steps. If the general music community has stepped from FM to Pitchfork, I'll take it.

Ahem, Back on topic...
Sharon Van Etten skips Seattle on her massive North American tour.
She'll be here. Probably a Yeti act, in the mold of Tune-Yards last year...

I feel that the masses can only be expected to take such big steps. If the general music community has stepped from FM to Pitchfork, I'll take it. I bet you will. It's not a big step, it's a lateral move, and you don't mind having the parameters of your taste dictated to you. By one highly selective, completely biased source that is more concerned with making sure you think they sound cool than with, you know, keeping you informed of what is going on in the music world.

Oh Horned Gramma spoke so now everyone must listen because HG is the leader of the forums and all must bow down to his superior knowledge of everything. You are the leader and the decider of all that is correct and hip in this forum. Everyone agrees with you for fear of being shot down by the coolest hipster in the forum. I am amazed at the amount of free time you have to post so many replies. Let me guess....you are a 30 year old virgin shacked up in your Mom's basement?
As far as your attack on me. I am 27 yes, what is your point? I don't listen to Blue Oyster Cult, I don't drink Coors light. Lately I have been listening to a lot of Elliott Smith, Broken Social Scene, The National, and yes the worst band ever Bright Eyes. Don't ever fucking knock Conor Oberst you fucking virgin piece of shit. I don't care if you don't like the melancholy mood of it but Conor Oberst is one the greatest songwriters of all time. As far as my taste in alcoholic beverages. I prefer whiskey straight up and my favorite beer is Laguanitas IPA. Go fuck yourself you music Nazi. I will frequent this message board as much as I want, although it won't be as much as you because I have a hot wife, a job, my own house, and I am not a fucking pathetic douche like you.

HG, Portlander, yes? have you listened to 94.7 lately? I agree with the idea of seeking-out music, but don't tell me pitchfork is the same thing.

It's not so much that we all agree with HG but it's more that it's easier to let him do him ranting and move on rather than argue with him

The torch has been passed. Radio stations nationwide are still playing the same songs on regular rotation as they did when I was in high school. RHCP, Nirvana, that awful Santana song with Rob Thomas.
The torch was passed to radio stations in major cities (or rather, to ClearChannel), by Dick Clark and American Bandstand. MTV held it for a while. There can be only one God of Taste, and right now it is Pitchfork.
You're young; you don't remember how it used to be. It's the same thing.

He's right. I shouldn't pass judgment on Bright Eyes until I've lost my virginity.
