I noticed a lot of people ruling band with February visits to the Northwest out for the fest. Am I the only one that seems to think February is kinda far away to really rule bands out? Maybe the higher up bands, but it seems weird ruling out smaller bands (like Smith Westerns, who I saw last summer, and sounded great even though they're all younger than me) that play shows 3 months out.

I'm pretty sure Cymbals Eat Guitars and Japandroids played Vancouver in March, maybe even April.

I totally agree. Of course the bigger bands selling out stadiums will try to avoid PNW area in the months preceding Sasquatch. On the other hand a small indie band that can fill a 100 (or even larger) seat venue will not have to avoid that area;Except maybe in the same month/week of the festival.

My city's weekly alternative newspaper ran an article about the embargo sasquatch puts on its bands preceding the festival a couple years ago. I wish I could remember more about it but i certainly don't think it extends to Canada.

Hmm I would think it would have to extend to Canada for some of the bigger bands. A huge percentage of attendance must be made up of Canadians, but who knows?

Hey rust, kings of leon played in Calgary a couple of days before they played at sasquatch.
And every year we see about 5 or 6 mid level bands play both calgary and sasquatch.
So it doesnt reach canada.

We've been talking about this for years, and it's fine that a lot of us are new here, but it's really not that difficult to comprehend.
There is a Seattle Santa Clause that excludes most bands from playing both Sasquatch and Seattle. Seattle does not mean Vancouver or Portland. In most people's minds, Sasquatch is Seattle (ask Perry Ferrell). You can Dr. Garbanzoure out the rest on your own.

And do we know what the length of time this clause is in effect for? At around the time the lineup is announced, give or take three weeks. It makes sense both ways when you think about it. If half the bands playing Sasquatch are playing in Seattle, the draw of Sasquatch becomes less sparkly. On the other hand, if a band is playing in Seattle in April, they will sell less tickets to their show due to Sasquatch attendees knowing they can see them at Sasquatch. Reunion bands, and sold out shows add to the exceptions. In most people's minds, Sasquatch is Seattle (ask Perry Ferrell). You can Dr. Garbanzoure out the rest on your own. That was hilarious. Man Perry was one fucking weird dude. "Visit each other in your tents tonight!" I just loved how he addressed the crowd as Seattle 28 times, and each time, a handful of fans cheered, while most of the crowd looked at him like, "What, I'm not from Seattle?" All the while he was sipping wine with his pinkie extended. Then he started telling stories about his nostalgic experiences at the Gorge (meaning his nostalgic experiences in Seattle). My city's weekly alternative newspaper ran an article about the embargo sasquatch puts on its bands preceding the festival a couple years ago. I wish I could remember more about it but i certainly don't think it extends to Canada. Since you deleted a follow up to this post that I was going to quote, it is interesting that Spokane might be included in the Santa Clause. But in the grand scheme of things, and I mean this as politely as possible, who gives a crap about Spokane?
