Driving and partying are basically the only things that Phish people do. I know I sure as hell did a shit-ton of both last weekend.

And Nadine -- that's one of the greatest personal Lips stories I've ever heard (and let's be honest with ourselves, we've heard a lot of personal Lips stories). Don't doubt that that is exactly how it happened, because I'm sure it is.

Drove down to Seattle for a show at Victory Lounge. Victory Lounge is next to Black Lodge in the South Lake Union area. It is a dive bar and generally has loud bands there. The first band was Towers (PDX). It was a two piece (bass and drums). I was not nearly high enough for their set. It was a lot of pedal effects with the bass player muttering vocals that you couldn’t distinguish. Wish I would have had ear plugs for that one.
Dead are the reason that I drove to Seattle though. They are from Melbourne, AUS and also are a two piece (bass and drums). They both add vocals but the bassist (Jace) is the main man for vocals. He has an intensity about him when he is screaming that struck me right in my core. His facial expressions and veins popping out of his face/neck added to the feeling that you might in fact become Dead if you watch their live set. He was a master of distortion, too. The drummer (Jem) kept the vibe in the crowd feeling like you could groove though. I found my self swaying/dancing/head banging most of the set. In between their brand of heavy ass tracks they always played an interlude of fucking around with sound in a trippy, noise vortex style. I loved their set. In fact, the last track might have been one of my favorite live moments of the year so far. I am trying to Dr. Garbanzoure out if it was an interlude->song or if it was two songs or just one long song. I must know this song title!

MBV was a big bummer last night. I hope I'm in the minority and other people enjoyed it but I thought it was kind of terrible. The sound had absolutely no depth and I thought it was just loud to hide the fact that the songs don't sound good live. Without ear plugs in you could kind of hear vocals but everything else sounded like a jet engine, with them in it just sounded like mush.

No, I meant this time again. I was thinking of driving up for it, and saw that it was at the WaMu again. Now I see that it was moved to the SODO. Strange.

Probably driven by ticket sales. Although the downgrade is pretty sad.

It must have been ticket sales. The show eventually sold out but you could still buy tickets online the morning of the show. If they hadn't sold out sodo yet...

If MBV can't sell out SODO...
That's really fucking depressing.

I'm alternating between being really happy that four thousand people didn't waste 50 dollars on the terrible show I saw last night and being upset because had they bought tickets it wouldn't have been at the fucking SODO.

Let's make a time machine, zip back to '91, and see them at the Crocodile.

This makes me happy that I decided against seeing them this time around, and even sadder that I missed them on their last tour, which I heard was mesmerizing.

We could have a whole other argument about how terrible MBV are if you like.
