I can totally see why so many people think MGMT sucks live now, but I enjoyed the shit outta that show. It was about the music, not the performance. They really didn't move much, but they sounded great.
I loved when the room was chanting "Kids! Kids! Kids!" during the encore and Andrew replied "It isn't Kids, it's MGMT". Then they went on and played a new song.

I'm so glad people on here appreciated that MGMT show. It's one of the best I've seen in a long time. Zero moving around, very little crowd interaction, but they just rock out and play their tunes. The ridiculous screen/visuals/effects help too.
The show I went to people chanted "kids, kids, kids" too. Which sucks because I'm sure they cut the encore short because of it. I'm kinda torn on it. When a song makes you famous, you're almost obliged to play it. Would it really kill them to make their set 1 song longer just to appease the masses. Open with Kids, then move on. On the other hand, if they don't want to play it, they should have that option. I just know that alot of people who say "it was a crappy show" are saying that because they didn't play kids. I'm not even a big fan of the song, so I couldn't care less, it just seems like such a distraction to everyone in the crowd who is waiting for that song all night.
It's not like Kids is like Styx - Mr. Roboto or something off U2's Discoteque album. It's pretty damn similar to their other stuff. Just suck it up and please the masses that made you famous, then put on the show you want to put on.
At the very least just say "We're not playing Kids tonight" at some point so people can forget about it and enjoy what they do play.
I'm still holding out that someone cancels and they add MGMT to Sasquatch.

How ridiculous was The Youth? I was never huge on that song, and seeing it live blew me away.

I went to Black Pus on Wednesday night. I was trying to get a hold of Burrito and had I logged onto the forum I would have known his phone changed. Fucking lame! I rolled solo to the show and it was still a blast. First off, Black Lodge is a tiny venue off of Republican and Eastlake in Seattle. It is similar to Josephine but not as skeezy. It is all ages, BYOB if you are 21. The venue had some pretty decent sound and the crowd seemed to be 70% under 21.
I saw the set from MTNS. I had no idea who they were but they played a very loud set. It was a 2 piece (I think from Seattle). It was pretty cool music but I was in the back and not paying close attention. I would go see them again with an emphasis on actually watching their set.
Black Pus was insane. I was in the very front of the full venue. Just minding my business waiting for him to play. Right when he started playing I got shoved in the back with 2 hands and went flying into his cymbal. Somehow I was grabbed on each side exactly when I hit the cymbal and pulled back before I hit the ground. Another concert goer was able to grab the cymbal before it crashed to the ground. Brian did not miss a beat and played his brand of tripped out pummeling noise. I don't know how that sequence happened but it was pretty crazy. The crowd was into it and seemed to move together as one sweaty mass. It was a blast. I picked up All My Relations on vinyl after the set.
I wish Burrito could have been there. Fucking phones...

It made total sense to me before. Fits their schedule, they're on a headlining tour that's in roughly the same are of the country at the same time. New album they're promoting, they've played Sasquatch before but not last year. Just seemed like a no brainer. Plus they were announcing festival gig after festival gig, all one at a time after the rest of their tour had been announced all at once.
I think they even announced a new one last week (firefly maybe?).
Them getting announced for Bumbershoot definitely decreased my confidence though.
I still think they are probably #1 on the "emergency bands to replace a sub headliner spot" list though.
Maybe selling out this tour in seconds (basically sold out in presales around here) caused them to ask for more money than Sasquatch was willing to pay.

God, I can't wait until the festival is over and spicypie goes away.

When a song makes you famous, you're almost obliged to play it. Would it really kill them to make their set 1 song longer just to appease the masses. Radiohead did fine for years refusing to play Creep. You are not obligated to anything.

Haha, I responded to your PM before reading this - which is exactly the same scenario that happened to me at my first Lightning Bolt show. Awesome.

Fleetwood Mac was awesome. Lindsey Buckingham is one hell of a musician.

Attended both of the Boris residency shows over the weekend. Night one was “The Hits” and night two was “Flood and other experimental/drone”. I only own/have heard one Boris album. I was completely floored by their sets both nights. The first night I was a little extra drunk because of the Sounders match before. Wata (the guitarist) can shred. She is a babe, too. They played songs that I have never heard but I was completely into it. The house was packed and I was stuck way in the back. After the set there was an after party put on by Seattle Passive Aggressive (a zine about heavy music). They had a band called Noise-a-tron playing. From what I remember it was a blast. It was in the Crocodile back bar. I will keep my eyes open for them playing in town again because I danced/moved awkwardly the whole time.
Last night was night two. Dylan Carlson from Earth opened. His set pretty much sounded like Earth minus the rest of the band. Boris played a lot of weird tunes. It was very interesting and at times reminded me of when I saw Sunn O))). Again, I didn’t know the music they were playing. If you have a chance to see Boris in the future I highly recommend it.

Saw Big Boi last week.... all in all it was a great show, but it just makes you want an Outkast reunion SO HARD. Getting only 50% of BOB, Rosa Parks, etc was bitter sweet.
Oh and Killer Mike effing killed it.
FUCK RONALD REGAN

On Friday night I went to a show at The Shakedown (Bellingham). The lineup was Caparza, Sloths and Grenades. I made it to all three sets. Caparza was a bit boring for me. They definitely were loud and heavy but it just didn’t resonate with me. They are from Bellingham though and had the largest crowd of the night. Sloths were up next. They are not even 21 years old yet and are from Portland. I really enjoyed their set. The bassist was all over the place. On top of speakers, in the crowd, on the drums....he was a blast to watch. I think they are going to develop into quite the rock group. The headliners were Grenades. The place was pretty empty by the time they were on (maybe 25 people in the bar). I really loved their set though. Their album, Heaven Is Empty, has been on heavy rotation for me and most of the tracks they played on Friday were from that release. Their lead singer/guitarist puked on stage about half way through the set but he didn’t miss a beat. He was very fucked up but sounded excellent. I picked up a bad ass beer coozie. It has a picture of Arnold (probably from Commando) holding a grenade in his hand and the word GRENADES running down the side. I lost two of my favorite beer coozies at Sasquatch so I was stoked to start the rebuild process

Went to Unknown Mortal Orchestra on Friday. They kicked ass! I went to their set (2 years ago??) at Sasquatch on the Yeti stage and left after the first couple of songs because the sound blew. I remember Lumpy saying that it got fixed and their set was awesome. I was pissed at myself for not sticking with them through the sound issues. The Wild Buffalo had no such sound issues. They were fantastic. We were standing right up against the stage and had a great time. They sounded perfect and had jam sessions in the middle of many songs. I wish the term “jam band” applied to bands like UMO or Built To Spill because that is how I want to describe them. I was expecting the vocals to be weak or muffled but they were crisp and beautiful. They came out for an encore and played “Ffunny FFrends”. The crowd wasn’t huge but it was full enough to not be embarrassing. The people that were there had good energy. WOMP: I would not miss that set at Sled Island. The new album’s songs are incredible live.
A band from Bellingham called Learning Team opened for them. I saw them open for the Cave Singers a while back (maybe a year and a half) and they sounded like your run of the mill indie rock band. I was debating on skipping their set but we got there earlier than expected. I am glad we did, too! The band has polished themselves and added some strings. They had a much larger and atmospheric presence. They were pretty damn good actually. I will probably catch their set at CHBP now (barring conflicts).

Went to check out the free Weezer show at Pioneer Square tonight. They actually weren't lifeless robots this time around. Was actually a pretty fun show.
Also, I parked really far away, and got lost on my way back to the car. As I was walking past the Microsoft store, two black SUVs pulled up and out came Weezer. I almost wanted to say something to them since I was one of the only two people on the sidewalk, but they looked like they just wanted to get inside quickly so I didn't bother.

Today is the first day of work that I have had since 7/3. Last night was a tough choice to go to The Shakedown (BHAM) to see Serial Hawk, Stoneburner and Weedeater because I knew it would not get out until after 1AM. As my username suggests, I make choices that are not always the best for me. I sure as hell am glad that I did go though!
Serial Hawk are a 3 piece out of Seattle. I enjoyed their set. It had some similarities to the sound Kowloon Walled City bring (although KWC are far superior in my opinion). Good way to start off the night though. I would see them again.
Stoneburner are a 4 piece out of Portland. They fucking destroyed! The two guitar players were set up on the ground facing the stage at the bassist and drummer. Their pedal boards were pretty impressive. The bassist and the drummer both supplied some vicious vocals. It was at times heavy and fast, at times heavy and trippy, at times pretty and all together made for a fantastic show. I picked up their record after the show. Before they started playing there was an accident. During the soundcheck a full tall boy of Rainier got knocked off the stage right onto one of the guitarist’s pedal boards. The sound guy from The Shakedown looked shocked and immediately took his shirt off and started drying it off. I thought the show wasn’t going to happen at all but it went off without an issue.
Weedeater are crazy. I don’t know if any of you caught that article about the 8 bands that influence the Melvins (written by the Melvins) but they were on that list. I had never heard their music before last night. It had some low frequency feedback that reminded me of Sunn O))). The bassist was insane. Google image them and you will see what I am talking about. Captivating show. They were so good that I had to force myself to leave the venue early so I could at least get some sleep. I was rolling solo but it was still a blast!

Weedeater are amazing, but I've never gotten to see them live. Eyehategod radio is one of my top stations on Pandora and one of the main reasons for that is that it plays A LOT of Weedeater.

Hahaha man. Weedeater is a name I haven't heard in a long long time. They are (were?) a Relapse band right?
