That is a bummer to hear about the Nepchune staff. I've had nothing but good experiences there so far, and I really dig the sound, but I usually don't even so much as look any employees (except for the nice lady at the door and whoever sells me my ticket) in the eyes.

It might've just been that specific sound guy. I don't know. The door people and security are generally nice, but it was really fucking frustrating to see Blue Hawaii get cut short as they were wrapping up.

I've never seen that happen anywhere before. Maybe he thought he was running sound for the academy awards or something.

Modest Mouse got cut off in the middle of Float On at Coachella. It was actually pretty funny at the time.

Okay. I know I don't go to as many shows as some people on here, but I think with the number if festivals I go to a year I figure I see around 100+ bands a year. Weird Al Yankovic was seriously one of the top 10 shows I've seen in the last 5 years. No joke. That man is a motherfucking musician's musician. I was entertained for 2.5 hours non-stop. Song after song after song. Some may call it cheesy, but god damn that was an incredible concert. FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

Especially after seeing R. Kelly's willingness to collaborate at Coachella, I am confident that a 'Trapped in the Closet/Drive-Thru' medley is going to happen.

I've been going to shows on a regular basis for almost 20 years and Weird Al is easily one of my top 10 shows ever, possibly even top 5. He is a world class entertainer in every sense of the word. Anyone who writes him off as just a joke act has never taken the time to really listen to him. Just look at the song "Bob" for proof that he is one of the mot talented lyricists of our time.

Last night I went to The Shakedown to see Helms Alee, The Narrows and Nauthiz. I had never heard of Nauthiz but got there early enough to catch his set. He was sort of a reverse Reignwolf (he was at a full drum set and also played guitar while he screamed his lyrics). In the middle of the set his mic fell over that was hanging above his head. When he picked it up he said "man, I practice every day and I still sweat this much..". The dude plays in other Bellingham based bands but this project appears to be relatively new to the live show. It was interesting and pretty enjoyable (if you like feedback).
The Narrows are also out of Bellingham. I saw them last year and was told that they came out of hibernation to play that show. Since then they have played multiple shows. In fact, the guitarist/singer said "We have played here a lot of times in the last 4 months so tonight you guys get the weirdo set.". It was a fantastic set filled with heavy droned out tunes. It sounded like something Burrito would have been into.
Helms Alee treated us as guinea pigs. They stated they were going to be trying out new songs they are taking to the studio next week. The new songs are next level shit and I can't wait for their upcoming LP. They are a treat to see live. They are based out of Seattle so I recommend any heavy music lovers down there make sure to catch them!

New Build completely blew me away. On record, they're a little mopey and very synth-based, but live... Oh my god. Three drummers, including a steel drum, horns, 2 synth dudes, guitar and bass with male/female dueting vocals, insanely danceable. Funky, electrifying, and an all-around feel-great time.
No Ceremony was alright, they played really well but their songs were fairly basic, especially compared to the insane awesomeness of New Build. They could use a fourth member to round them out, because they do have great potential.
New Build: A No Ceremony: C+

Primus 3D is a spectacular experience. For most of the first set I was in awe with the the 3D visuals matched with the extended jam sessions they did with each song. The second set was super high energy crazy moshing. I hardly remember the visuals during the second set. At one point the 3D glasses on my face were shattered to pieces so quickly that I didn't even have time to flinch. Lucky I had a second pair in my pocket, not that I had much use for them at that point.

Big Boi was pretty ridiculous. His hype man was as awful as it gets, and when his 30 seconds of fame hit to actually rap, he sounded like a third grader with stage fright forced to read a shitty poem in front of the class. It was billed as "Big Boi with a live band," but he had a marginal drummer, a DJ, a female back-up vocalist, and a dude strumming an electric guitar in the dark on the edge of the stage. I never heard a note from that guitar. I think the cord attached to it was a prop. There was also a website being plugged on the monitor the entire show, which is annoying as fuck.
The hype man yelled, "who wants to go to Atlanta, throw your A's in the air (a hand signal looking like an A)," and most of the crowd did. It made me realize how stupid the average hip-hopster really is. Did they really all of the sudden think, "you know, Atlanta seems cool, I need to go there." Big Boi sounded good on the mic however, and seemed to be enjoying himself, so I have faith an eventual Outkast reunion will be great.
Killer Mike seems like the nicest guy in hip-hop, a truly cool guy who didn't resort to using the N or F words in every verse. When he thanks his fans, it is genuine. He basically apologized for El-P not being able to join him, so if there are any still skeptical about a collab at Sasquatch, it's guaranteed.
