Yeah that show was something else. Their extended jams touched me in all the right places.

I am doing really bad at meeting up with forum peeps so far in 2015. That is two shows in a row now! Going to have to start posting in upcoming shows again.

SUMAC, Lozen & Grenades @ The Shakedown 3/14/15
This show was fan-fucking-tastic. Two of these bands visit Bellingham a couple of times per year. Grenades brought their usual energetic, noisy, spaced out rock but it had an extra oomf tonight. Lozen is the most adorable band in the loud rock scene that is so booming in the PNW. These two ladies can make you fall in love with them by watching them throughout the set or crush you until you turn to a tiny poof of dust. Bad. Ass.Ladies. My buddy and I were smoking a bowl after their set and the drummer joined us while loading the van. She is a doll and you all should check out their music. Then it was time for SUMAC. This is a band that has Brian Cook (Botch, Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes), Aaron Turner (Isis, founded Hydra Head) and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists). Their new record, The Deal, has been an intense one to digest. After seeing them live I can officially put this one on my favorite of the year list. It was my favorite set I have seen in over a year. And I have seen a lot of sets that I am in love with. Brain massage to the max. If you get a chance to see them play you need to make that happen. Everything that Brian Cook has been a part of I have loved. The one band I haven't heard yet is Botch but that is my next one to check out. Gah. Fuck. Bed time is now. Boomshackalacka.

I'm 100 percent behind you on the SUMAC, my man. Caught them Thursday with Baptists and they destroyed. I actually saw their first show as well, when they opened for Deafheaven, and it's amazing how much tighter and more comfortable they've gotten. You can tell they just have all those songs down to a fucking tee.

If I didn't have to work early tomorrow I would drive to Seattle and watch them again tonight. I haven't heard Baptists yet but it seems like I should change that.

In my opinion they've made some of the most interesting hardcore to come out of Vancouver in the last little while. Obviously the drumming is crazy, but they've just got a really raw and invigorating sound. I especially dug Bloodmines. And yeah, forceful live shows as well.

It is cool though...now I get to listen to Botch for the first time. I am listening to We Are The Romans right now and I get why they are so critically acclaimed. Would love to play on good speakers at a high volume! Wicked stuff. I am glad you got to check out SUMAC. They were filthy.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor was...I don't even know what to say. They took me somewhere.
I also love that next to their merch table they had PM Press, an anarchist publisher, set up.
