At their best, Interpol is average live. totally agree. one the most uninspiring performances I have ever seen. it was like watching band practice.

The Decemberists are only playing 3 NA shows this year. They would be a much bigger deal to headline than Interpol or Wilco. That's because the thought of the Decemberists headlining a Sasquatch-sized festival is mind-wrinkling.

ok a couple things: 1. sasquatch isn't getting pearl jam, it just isn't happening. Unless adam zacks marries into vedders family and he does it as a favor, they cost way too much money 2. the new interpol album is pretty decent but it's not going to push them into headliner territory. Some great songs but nothing is particularly catchy. On top of that, they dropped from a major label to a large indie one, thats not the easiest way to make a huge jump in popularity. They subheadlined a couple years ago, expect that again if they play 3. I think you guys are overselling this exclusivity. It mainly applies to groups that are only playing 1 or 2 shows this summer and are aging legends. McCartney, Springsteen, etc. I wouldn't exclude the arcade fire just because coachella is going to pay more for them and so we won't get them. They are touring through the winter so it's not like scoring them is going to be nearly as big of a deal as it was for lolla this year.
if I had to bet on headliners right now: arcade fire, strokes, Phoenix I know there is no way we get all three of those but I wouldn't be surprised if we get two out of three. More likely there will be a veteran group thrown in there, I would die happy if we got neil young

That's because the thought of the Decemberists headlining a Sasquatch-sized festival is mind-wrinkling. Why? They've got a huge dedicated fanbase, known for putting on great (and long) live shows, and their musical style and performances can evoke the grandeur. I'm not really a fan, but if theres one band ready to make the jump Its them. They're basically the folk MMJ. I'd be waaaay more surprised if Interpol was headlining than they were.

I don't disagree, but it just can't happen. It'd be too... weird.

That's a crazy thought to think the Decemberists could headline, but if they have a huge electronic draw on the second stage playing opposite, it could happen. There will be more people left at the end of their set than were left at My Morning Jacket.
Also, the headliners this year were small, but each were known for putting on amazing live shows. Decemberists would fit this trend, Interpol wouldn't.

Interpol is not anything special live at all, my guesses were purely for fun, they were based on rumors (White Stripes, Shins), who's dropping new albums that have a good chance at cracking the "American Eagle" demo(Chromeo), who's dropping new albums and has been around the block (Interpol, Wilco), who dropped an album last year but will hit the peak of the "American Eagle" demo come next summer (Pheonix, Broken Bells, Black Keys). New bands with tunes in popular movies and commercials to put them in the popular ticket selling consciencenous (Pheonix, Broken Bells, Black Keys, Spoon, Chromeo, Interpol). Indie bands that will have gained seriouse live act rep this fall/winter (Wolf Parade, Gaslight Anthem). Bands that won't tour but play prominent fest spots due to good years from both sales and festival rep (Pheonix, BSS). Good bands who didn't play last year (Decemberists, Yeasayer, Spoon, Pheonix). Bands doing big tours who will be missing the PNW (Interpol). PJ is based on my hail mary idea that they will only get one "huge" headliner next year. They've never played Sas, they've done fests many times without touring. I don't really want it this way, just what I think is very plausible.

Seeing them August 4th at Madison Square Garden with Spoon and Owen Pallett. There are worse ways to spend $50.

Am I understanding correctly, people actually WANT Pearl Jam to play? I thought it was generally agreed that every album after Ten was absolutely terrible. God I just do not understand people.

They fall under the Lady Gaga rule of headliners: I would never pay the $50+ to see Pearl Jam headline a show solo, but as part of a package deal with, like, the Decemberists and the Black Keys and Titus Andronicus? Sign me up.

If Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver don't come out with a new album by next Sasquatch then they will be long over due. Those are my two big hopes. I'd say the Shins too but James Mercer is still touring with Broken Bells and pretty much all the other current members have other bands to work with. Even though he probably has a decent amount of new Shins material already down (I heard two new songs when they did a little mini tour last summer) I think we would be being pretty hopeful if we asked that the Shins come out with a new album in less than a year. But I hope I'm wrong because they would be so awesome. The Black Keys surprised me by not being here this year, if next year they aren't there with their new album then something is wrong. Jack White could put together a White Stripes album super quick. He's impulsive and cool like that. I remember reading that Elephant was recorded in a very small window of time. While you would think the White Stripes would be an expensive band, they probably aren't difficult like that and would love to play the Gorge. And I'm almost positive I read an article where Eddie Vedder said at a show that it was their last for a while and Pearl Jam was going on a break. Maybe my memory is wrong though.... Edit: I double checked and my memory was not wrong. www.nme.com/news/pearl-jam/52001There is this really really great band, Warpaint who are releasing their first album in August and they're a lot smaller than all of the previous bands discussed but they are one of the ones I am hoping for the most. They would fit perfect. Their EP was amazing. I've never been so impressed with so small an example of six songs. They were touring during Sasquatch and I was bummed they weren't invited to the party. the rest of the mainstage will be littered with the "new hot acts", ie - next years' MGMT and Passion Pit. cough LOCAL NATIVES cough I can definitely see Local Natives becoming popular enough to play on the Mainstage next year if they have a new album out. They were so good this year! People are really catching on to them too. If they come back I'd be a very very happy camper.

Edit: I double checked and my memory was not wrong. www.nme.com/news/pearl-jam/52001Pearl Jam's hiatus is directly related to Soundgarden's reunion (since Matt Cameron is in each band). Pearl Jam announces a hiatus in mid July, Soundgarden's first show is in early August, then they'll announce a world tour. Once we figure out the details of that tour, we'll have a better idea of how long Pearl Jam's break will be.

I guess it makes sense that the people that jizz over the Arcade Fire are the same people that are still jizzing over 'Jeremy'. I'm sorry that our musical preferences are different, and I'm sorry for stating my opinion? What do you want me to say? Seriously, why the fuck do you all take this so seriously, it is a MESSAGE BOARD ABOUT MUSIC. Unbelievable.

It pains me to hear that because I'm a big Arcade Fire fan, it also means I have to be a big Pear Jam fan. Oh well, at least Ten was good right? And that song about that kid? What was his name again? oh well, at least you put me in my place.
The whole world isn't out to get you, you know. People just don't like it when you only come here to shit on bands they like without offering anything of substance to the conversation.

Yeah, we did that one.
For the record, I was seriously asking. I consider Pearl Jam to be strictly lowest common denominator shit and I'm amazed that the same people that I've seen bitching about having Jane's Addiction headline are supporting Pearl Jam.
