pitchfork tv is pretty great, the live performances and interviews of bands are awesome. and i think the website as a whole is definitely awesome and i support that it's an incredible resource.
but, what they did for their little nyc anti-cmj festival was really dick. and sometimes it seems like their score is just to please their readers. and on a greater scale, it seems to be turning the 'kinda-into-hip-new-music' population into this entity sharing one mind and one set of ears, and that's scary. like mtv all over again scary. that's why i don't use the site, and haven't for a couple years. i feel like we need a lot of outlets for finding new tunes, not just following one.
& i'm not talking you and me or other people here, i mean those friends of ours just kind of into the new music scene and they all bring up the same bands after reading the top reviews.

Pitchfork is a good one-stop shop for letting me know about tour dates/album releases/etc, but album reviews, there's really no point. I do like the videos they do too though.

The Animal Collective album was definitely always a 9.6.

I really loved their review of that record, by the way.

doumak is right about pitchfork becoming a sort of encyclopedia for new listeners (which I was once), and taking their word as gold. The problem is that it's soo extensive and detailed that it does become a one-stop-shop, and you have to be proactive to find music pitchfork ignores but is really quality stuff. And most people are lazy and don't seek other stuff out.
I wonder how aware the writers and editors at pitchfork are of their scene-shaping powers.

Drew, name one record you've bought in the last five years that you didn't read about on Pitchfork.
I know you're logged in right now; you have three minutes. Go.

Future Islands' In Evening Air, actually one of my favorites of the year. I'm hoping they show up at Sasquatch

Funny thing is I heard about that is I heard of Future Islands through Pitchfork (and my band opened for them! Unfortunately, that doesn't get my dick sucked as much as I'd hoped.)

Why do I have to explain this. I asked you to name just one non-Pitchfork band and you failed. I'd love to see you dig any deeper than that. Healing power of laughter and all that.

It was pretty cool. They did a round robin of them, Thank You, and Toro Y Moi. Switched off song by song, though to be honest, I might have liked Thank You a little more than then.
It was strange though since my band is a Pavement-y sounding band, so we were kinda a strange opener, but it was more just because our band is good friends with Chaz (Toro Y Moi) (also, doesn't really get my dick sucked)

I know one or two people that might suck your dick for that. I'll put you in touch.
I've never been to a round-robin style concert. I don't know if I'd like it. But I'm interested

I asked you for one band that you didn't read about on Pitchfork, and then in the midst of you calling Foo Fighters 'Dad Rock' and then suggesting every Pitchfork jizz rag you can think of headline a Sasquatch day, you throw me the name of some shitty band that Pitchfork has been talking about for months. WRONG. TRY AGAIN.

Which pitchfork jizz rag did I suggest as a headliner? You don't know what the fuck you're talking about

Which pitchfork jizz rag did I suggest as a headliner? Robyn. Now. Stop acting like an over-caffeinated fifteen year old. You're only thirty posts in and I'm pretty certain the bulk of us are already wishing you would leave.
