Then again I found Pavement great and you didn't, so who knows, I might love Wolf Parade! =P

Yeah, but I hate Pavement's music. Spencer Krug is a fucking badass, but Wolf Parade sound like shit live. It's all muddy -- all the cool instrumentation, counter-melodies and interesting backbeats get lost in this unintelligible soup.

The Crystal Ballroom can turn any band into unintelligible soup, depending on where you are standing. And Wolf Parade doesn't blow live, that would imply they sound like shit and have no stage presence, neither of which would be correct. With that said, I don't recall any of their shows being musically memorable at all. I thought the Handsome Furs put on a more entertaining show, and Sunset Rubdown was just outstanding live. To think, the first time I saw Wolf Parade back in the day, I thought Spencer Krug was fourteen and annoying, and fourteen.

Yeah, no, they're terrible live. And I didn't see them at the Crystal. Just a case of a good studio band that can't perform, trust me on this.
I'd really love to see Krug tour his Moonface project. To me, that is a hundred times more interesting than anything Wolf Parade has done.

Saw WHY? this weekend as part of the Sled Island festival and they were GREAT!!! Fucking great. Very interesting dynmaic on stage...just five fucked weirdo's playing good music and being just generally strange. Really enjoyed their set.
Thanks to all that recommended them.
The other bands kicked ass as well. Fucked Up's Pink Eye got 100% naked infront of the crowd at 5:00pm...in front of hundreds of curious onlookers. Ted Leo was amazing as was The Thermals. Neither of them as good as their bar shows but whatever. Built to Spil was...well Built to Spill.
Girl Talk...SUCKED! What a fucking waste of a headliner spot. The sound was shit, the toilet paper thing he does was dumb and the crowd was just not into it. Really a shame. But what a great night otherwise.

I haven't seen handsome furs live but I just don't feel the same way about wolf parade of Sunset Rubdown. I love a lot of the stuff Sunset Rubdown has put out (although dragonslayer did nothing for me), but I thought their show dragged on and the crowd really wasn't into it. On the other hand I've seen wolf parade twice and had a great time both times. Maybe they aren't the most exciting live performers but I think the crowd at the shows more than makes up for it. It says something that the whole crowd goes nuts and sings along for every single song on Apologies to Queen Mary. Maybe sitting in the back is boring but I have trouble imagining how you could be bored if you were up front jumping along with everyone else
