I caught the end of Beardyman, and while it wasn't bad, it definitely wasn't what I was expecting. I thought he was a comedy act? And I thought he did a lot of beat-boxing looped vocal stuff a la Reggie Watts? Granted I only saw the last 10 minutes, but he was basically just a DJ from what I saw. Was he supposed to be comedy or EDM? He at least succeeded on the latter though. I don't know much about EDM, but he seemed to know what he was doing. He was one of the coolest things I saw at Coachella 2011, and it was around 10pm. I couldn't believe he was playing Sasquatch that early, sandwiched between actual comedians. He should have shut down the shack opposite the Roots.

It was a total shit show, but it was pretty funny. They played everything from La Bamba to Smells Like Teen Spirit. They were absolutely hammered and were clearly just fucking off the entire time. I enjoyed it the 15 or so minutes I watched. I heard Mogwai cancelled, and Spiritualized was playing a full set, but I didn't think Spiritualized would get pushed back and replaced. When Deer Tick started their set, I heard, "Mogwai cancelled, so we're going to play Deer Tick covers." I wasn't even wasted, but I obviously misunderstood them. I wasn't paying attention. I left during the Nirvana cover, and almost missed the beginning of the D. They jumped from Replacements to Nirvana at which point lead singer informed the crowd they were about to witness Deervana. Lead singer was smashed. At end of the set he exclaimed that there were 7 minutes to kill and were going to play stairway to heaven, which they did for about 45 seconds before busting into fight for your right to party. Good drunk times.

Did anyone see Dry The River? It was basically watching Explosions In The Sky with three guys that could also harmonize while they jammed out to feedback. Next to St. Vincent I found it to be the best set of the weekend.

Headliners delivered more than any other Sasq I've been to. Also this list matches my top most excited for acts more than any other Sasq I've been to. Top 4 are pretty much interchangeable right now.
1. Girl Talk - His '09 show was one of the best I've ever seen. This one was even better.
2. Jack White - Possibly the best encore ever. He just delivered and more, there is no other way to put it.
3. Beck - Possibly the second best encore ever. The first half of this show I was thinking: 'ok this is going to be considerably lower energy than either of the previous two closers but at least his setlist is awesome'. By the end I was thinking it might have been the greatest show of all time.
4. Bon Iver - Stopped in for a bit of James Murphy and he sounded great then headed down to the mainstage. By the end of Perth it was obvious we were all in for a treat. The festival was so good this year that my 4the best show of the festival is right up there with the best I've ever seen. So many top 5 lists that have either James Murphy or Bon Iver near the top of their lists, so I don't think you could have gone wrong either way. Took some droogs in prep for Feed Me, but they hit partway through Bon Iver. Calgary is still ringing in my ears and For Emma almost made me tear up.
5. Beirut - Played Scenic World during the sunset which is pretty much all I could have asked for. The quality of music was never in doubt.
HM to the D for being epic and hilarious, to The Joy Formidable for rocking the f*ck out, and also to Feed Me for being part of one of the best nights of my life and a better glowpocalypse and far better show that Pretty Lights in every possible way.
Not trying to bring people down who have The Roots in their list, but that was one of the more disappointing shows of the weekend for me. That and the lack of schedules we really the only bad things I can think of about this years festival. No doubt the best one I've been to.

Throw in some lights to that show and maybe some screens so you could see what he was doing and it would have been great. Make it at night with that stuff and it would have been amazing. I still liked it though, just had trouble getting into it at 2pm.

Anybody catch the Deer Tick covers set? I would've like to seen that had I known about it, though I doubt it would've trumped my decision to see Ted Leo. I caught about 10 minutes of it and I thought it was awful. They were clearly hammered though

1. Jack white 2. Beck 3. James murphy 4. Santigold 5. Dale earnhardt jr jr ( the commanded the stage so well for a 1pm show)
HM: metric, feed me, nobody beats the drum, sbtrkt, the roots, wolfgang gartner, UMO, little dragon, and The D.
The first two were my favorites by far then the second three and honorable mention where my next favorites only kinda in order.

It seems I end up loving every Deer____ band. Put Deer at the beginning of your name, and I'll probably like you. Put a bird on it!

Best Set of the Weekend (Unexpected Division) Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. The 1pm Mainstage timeslot was the strongest of the weekend, as Charles Bradley, D.E.Jr.Jr., and Grouplove all put on "wake-up" type sets where the performers' energy transferred as opposed to annoyed. This was the biggest surprise of the weekend and I am shocked more people aren't talking about it at least media-wise. This is the only band of the weekend that earned the coveted "leave pit, walk to Easy Street, buy album" process. The big downside is that now I have to recommend a band with the worst name imaginable.
Best Sets of the Weekend (Expected Division) The three main headliners plus Alabama Shakes. I had to leave St. Vincent and Ted Leo early, which sucked, but I'll see 'em again some time; Beirut gets an honorable mention.
So Here's My Top Five, presented with a big ol' SORRY CHARLIE 1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., strictly because they had the added "surprise" factor 2. Bon Iver 3. Jack White 4. Alabama Shakes 5. Beck
