I'm going to get in right when the campground opens and be right near the front, as usual. The walk back is only like twenty minutes or so, and I will probably take advantage of re-entry every day. Every day of every Sasquatch ever I have had to haul around a huge backpack full of clothes and blankets and shit; if I have the option not to do that, I don't care how much walking I have to do. What's the earliest you've ever showed up? I know they say the campground opens at 5:00pm Thursday, but my brother is flying in late Wednesday night and ideally we would like to stock up on supplies and then head to the Gorge directly from the airport.

I'm with H Gramma, I'll be going in as soon as possible on thursday and it sounds like that gets one closer to the grounds...I will for sure be going back to camp at least once...besides, the walk will be good for me...

So, I see lots of references to theft scattered about the threads....is it really as bad as it sounds? I'm beginning to feel like I'll need to set up a mine field around my camp...

Lock things that you don't want stolen in your car, Ta da.

Yep. That's really all it takes. Put stuff in your car, make sure that it's out of view, and lock the door.
Also don't bring shit that you don't want stolen. Pretty much the only thing I bring to Sasquatch that's worth more than fifty dollars is my iPod, and that's fairly easy to hide. If you bring your laptop or your iPad or your grandmother's fine china to Sasquatch, you're doing it wrong.

I think the thing I worry about most is my passport. I triple lock that shit even in the gramma campground. (Also, we did have someone go through our tent at Wildhorse one time. All there was in there was bedding and dirty clothes though, but it was still creepy.)

Whaa? I felt like we were pretty close, weren't we? We were maybe eight or nine minutes' walk from the general store, and from there it's a little more than ten minutes to the gates. The walk last year was a breeze.
2009, shit. We were right along the fence at the very back of the back pasture. Holy balls, now that was a walk.

That's just what we want them to think. Once they look away for even a second, all bets are off.

We were parked at the upper most tip of the circle, so I guess you could be further away, but it certainly wasn't the closest either.

I think I said it before, but it depends which type of "yellow shirt" you get to deal with:
a) High school aged kid who could give a shit
or
b) Mulleted ex-con who is way overzealous with his perceived authority (this guy will run you down, and you WILL REGRET IT!!!)

The later you arrive, the closer you get to the gorge. That's the way it seems to work, unless you have premier.

Fuck that. Last year we had a convoy of like 12 vehicles, and they kept trying to separate us. We just pulled over, got out of the vehicle and made all our friends pull over behind us. Every time the ex-con type would try to make us move we told him to back off we will move when we're ready.
We made enough room to let others pass us while we got our group together. They tried to cram us in with everyone else so we told them no. Put us in a row with no cars so we can do what we want.
As long as you have the numbers, know what you want, and demand it, they will just let you do whatever you want. We ended up with enough space to squeeze in friends that arrived the next day.

It sounds like the vehicle placement is unfairly random. Last year my group arrived around 5:00am on Friday, and we camped literally 50 feet from the general store...and the cops.

I've arrived at the same time for the last 2 years, around 2:30a.m on Friday. There has been no one there to park us, just a guy pointing in a direction they'd like, but we just drove as close to the gorge as we could both times, and no one said a word to us. I think getting there at night is the way to go. that's just my experience though.
Edit: 2:30 am on the day the fest starts.

On the theft issue, are things like ice chests, camp stoves, chairs, lanterns etc. likely to be taken? I hear flags are at risk...

On the theft issue, are things like ice chests, camp stoves, chairs, lanterns etc. likely to be taken? I hear flags are at risk... I have never had any of that stolen. We usually put anything that will fit under the car( chairs umbrellas etc) there, and anything expensive in the car. We have never had anything stolen. Do not leave a cooler full of beer, or any alcohol in plain sight, it will be gone. I think the general rule: Put everything out of sight that is important, and lock up in your trunk everything that is expensive. There is not a specialized Oceans 11 crack team here, it is drunk people, seeing some cool shit left out and playing with it, and likely nothing much more than that.
