Let the record show that Sasquatch still has the better lineup. I agree...except for The Black Keys (new song is great)! They should be playing Sasquatch as well...otherwise a way more interesting lineup.

It's hard to really compare the two lineups, so I'm trying to remain unbiased on which is better. It's a bit like comparing My Morning Jacket to Green Day, and I'll leave it at that to avoid writing a book about which is better.
The thing I liked most about the recent Zacks interview is that he really is creating a music festival for internet music geeks like us. If he knew he had to sell 75,000 tickets per day instead of 25,000 per day, I'm sure he would look for acts like Green Day and Lady Gaga.
If I had to choose between one or the other, I would easily pick Sasquatch, and that is not just because of the lineup. Although, it's not like deciding if you want to have steak or lobster for dinner. You can eat one tonight, and the other tomorrow. This is why I see myself attending both, because I like steak and lobster.

Re: Lollapalooza v. Sasquatch
Top-to-bottom, Sasquatch. Just guessing from the mock schedules, but I can only see maybe one or two time slots a day this year where I'm going to have to sit and burn in the sun (Doves). There's a fair amount of overlap between what I've already seen and Lolla '10.
I'm not surprised about this (because I'm not really a fan of any of the headliners this year to begin with), but the Lolla headliners crush us. I will give a kidney to see Arcade Fire - this is a standing offer - and I would totally see Lady Gaga, Green Day, and, hell, even Soundgarden if they're on the same bill as Phoenix and the Strokes.

Lollapalooza does have a pretty grand set of headliners, and if you could actually see each of them, that lineup would be out of control. But they play against each other, so you can't. I'm not saying I would pay money to see Green Day or Lady Gaga, but I despise Ben Harper's music, yet have seen him live twice. That's a good thing about festivals.
On the other hand, if I had to rank the nine headliners between Sasquatch and Lollapalooza, it would go something like this:
1. Arcade Fire (Can't see them live enough) 2. My Morning Jacket (Can't see them live enough) 3. Massive Attack (Never had a chance to see them) 4. Soundgarden 5. Ween/Green Day (tough call) 5. Green Day/Ween 7. The Strokes 8. Phoenix 9. Lady Gaga
At least for my taste, Sasquatch stacks up pretty good.

It definitely goes Broken Social Scene over Arcade Fire even though I would be damn near close to giving a kidney to see Arcade Fire as well. So Sasquatch wins out.

For all the festival junkies out there that are going to Lollapalooza, make sure to check out all the exclusive Afterparties/Aftershows happening throughout the Lolla weekend. Check them out do312.com/lollaaftershows All tickets go on sale Friday! As an MGMT fan, I have to make a quick plug for the MGMT aftershow happening at the House of Blues on Friday August 6th. With less than 1000 tickets available, this is going to be a totally awesome and uniquely intimate show. The best part about it is that all proceeds benefit the People's Music School, a non-profit community organization that provides musical education and lessons for those that would not otherwise be able to afford them. Hopefully I'll see some of you there! More info on the show www.houseofblues.com/tickets/eventdetail.php?eventid=64458

Holy fuck. The Lollapalooza schedule is a nightmare. I mean, I'm not attending it, but if I was, I'd have conflicts with the following just on day one - the combos are because of the awesome way the stages are set up:
Cymbals Eat Guitars v. New Pornographers v. Devo Matt & Kim v. Dirty Projectors vs. Fuck Buttons (Black Keys + Jimmy Cliff + Strokes) v. (Hot Chip + Chromeo + Lady Gaga)
By the way, I still don't know the difference between Cut Copy and Hot Chip. Is there one?

The only thing worse than conflicts is how far away the stages are. You can have no conflicts, then realize when you get there that one end of the park is a mile away from the other end, which adds 20 minutes to your commute between stages.

i haven't been to Lolla yet. I researched Grant Park and saw that it's ridiculously impossible to switch between shows (unless they're right next to one another) so I don't know what I'm gonna do.
Either way, it's gonna be a great time. I'll give you all a full recap once I get back.

If you happen to be riding the train heading north after the festival, I'll tell you everyone walked directly west to the nearest train stop, while I walked further south to the stop before that one. I was one of the first people on the train, got a nice spot to sit near the window, then witnessed 4,000+ people trying to cram on the train at the next stop. Many had to wait for the next train.
We made it to an aftershow on time because of this.

my hotel is four blocks away from Grant Park (Club Quarters- Central Loop) - so i don't anticipate going north after the festival... but if I do, I'll keep this in mind for sure.
I was interested in doing one of the aftershows, but I just don't think I'll be able to afford it this time around. - maybe next year, should I go to lolla again

So, Lolla was a success. I was able to see everybody I wanted. While it is a ridiculous walk from one side of the park to the other - it was doable.
However, the beer selection at Lolla was surprisingly worse than at Sasquatch. The ONLY options at Lolla consisted of shitty budweiser products.
Of all the bands I saw, I think my favorite ten performances were by:
Cut Copy Arcade Fire Chromeo the Dodos (special guest - Neko Case) Frightened Rabbit the Big Pink the Constellations Spoon Phoenix the Black Keys

Is anyone headed for Lollapalooza this year? As seems to be the trend of this year's music fests, their early bird tickets sold in a matter of minutes. I'm considering going, but I really would have to look at cost of travel + lodging to see if it's worth the trek.
