This would be the order of my intrigue for this years rappers.
Public Enemy - No comment needed.
Brother Ali - The second best lyricist in the lineup (behind Chuck-D of course). Some of his songs annoy me due to their content, but overall, he is very creative, and will keep you more than interested. His voice is very strong as well.
Kid Cudi - More of a mellow flow, with some funky backing music. I can see him being a very legible lyricist because it sounds like he is talking when he is rapping. He also sings the main chorus on several songs (I'm not possitive about this, but it sounds like it)?
Wale-Talented, but his album overall sounds way too overproduced. I feel like he is yelling at me. He should have the most shout outs of the group though. It's great he is playing Saturday, because I'm not sure I want to be standing around a bunch of Sasquatch attendees being asked to throw their hands in the air Monday afternoon.
I think all four are better options than we had last year. I say that because I am not a Mos Def fan, and less of a fan after seeing him live. And the Knux, well, there is no reason to ever say anything good about them.
I realize this thread will die very quickly, but if anyone is even remotely a hip hop fan, please retort or agree with my assessments.

I only dabble in hip-hop, but I have to admit I was a fan of Champagne Champagne last year.

I'm a huge fan of hip-hop, and Brother Ali's set is my most anticipated of the festival next to Pavement. Public Enemy should also be great, even if Terminator X is no longer with them.
Kid Cudi is meh to me. He has some good ideas, but I honestly don't think he's a very talented singer, rapper, or lyricist. Wale sucks imo. So does Fresh Espresso and most other Seattle hip-hop artists outside of Grayskul and Sadistik.

What about Shabazz Palaces? They sound intriguing but all I can find are badly recorded youtube videos. Anyone got any info on this band?

I've listened to two Brother Ali albums three or four times, but with so much new music to get into, no one really has enough time to intently listen to each act initially. I spent 20 minutes staring into space concentrating on his lyrics this morning, and man, dude is insane. He is quickly moving towards the most highly anticipated act of the festival for me as well. Watcha' Got is the song that stood out to me after a few listens, so that might be a good song to start with for people who have never listened to him. humanequation would be a much better source for the goods though.

friends have told me that wale's live show is horrible Listening to his album, I was thinking there is a great chance he is terrible live. Not to be naive, but your response has dropped my interest in seeing him a couple points, although it wasn't too high to begin with. What about Shabazz Palaces? They sound intriguing but all I can find are badly recorded youtube videos. Anyone got any info on this band? I listened to one of their albums earlier today. I thought the flow was a bit like Tribe Called Quest, but the background music/noise was very odd, like a combo of hip hop beats and strange electro noise. I wasn't impressed with anything I heard lyrically or musically, but I need to give them a few more listens to form a better opinion. Nothing like Brother Ali who grabbed me on the first listen (or Kid Cudi for that matter).

interesting information on brother ali - he's albino. i like him and it helps that he's got sort of an intersting story.
as for kid cudi, i've heard that his live show isn't good. a few of my friends saw him at the showbox and said half the time all he talked about was how he was nominated for grammy. i do however love his song the prayer but i think that has more to do with him sampling band of horses.

sasquatch has never been that great when it comes to hip hop and this line up is no exception, what they have done thought is quite good with the little hip hop they have. I've seen public enemy life and although I respect what they do for the line up, rappers just don't age like rock musicians

rappers just don't age like rock musicians What the hell is this even supposed to mean? I could do a lengthy sarcastic post in which I share pictures of the Rolling Stones and bastardized touring versions of The Who or Queen, but I'll just skip that and instead say "quit fucking clowning."

I could do a lengthy sarcastic post in which I share pictures of the Rolling Stones and bastardized touring versions of The Who or Queen, but I'll just skip that and instead say "quit fucking clowning." what it means is that rappers can't perform when they get old. And by old I mean like over the age of 40 (with the exception of Jay Z, I don't know how he does it) Keith Richards and Pete Townshend are almost 20 years older than the oldest rapper alive so comparing them is just fucking stupid. I don't think you'll find anyone that will argue that a Public Enemy or KRS One show is close to as good now as it was in the early 90s but look at U2, Tom Morello, or Pearl Jam and you can easily argue that they are at (or at least much much closer) to their peak live performance ability.

Rappers don't age like rock musicians?
So true man... Your words are so deep. I am blown. /Sarcasm On a side note I bought the new Kid Cudi CD. Aside from some of the poppy songs on it which were just made for the radio, his lyrics are pretty great & some songs are good authentic hip hop... Alot of people haven't heard the stuff they don't play on the radio which is definitely worth checking out.

I've been an event DJ for a few years now, and that means having to listen to "Day N' Nite" more than I care to admit too, but after finally getting over my eliteism, I did find some strong writing in his lyrics. I was impressed. With that being said, as Kid Cudi has been doing collaborations and covers of other various artists... ("Pursuit of Happiness" with MGMT and "The Prayer," a cover of Band of Horses "The Funeral,") and these artists also playing the festival, what would you say the likelihood of seeing some of these collaborations live?

I don't know its quite a coincidence to be honest. I don't think 'the prayer' with BoH will occur but I could definitely see Kid Cudi performing on stage with MGMT & doing a song...

Ali > Chuck D.
Ali is dope as hell live, its good to see him play a large venue rather than the small ass bar I see him every year.

Other collaboration possibilities.
Flavor Flav was a guest on a Brother Ali track. Chuck D was a guest on a Z-Trip track.
