except they're selling more albums in the world than pretty much EVERY other artist on the bill this year. ya, let's just throw them on the yeti stage around noon. Huge album sales doesn't always translate into bands being good on record or live.(I'm not citing examples, there are plenty) I have listened to all their (MGMT) music and prefer to see almost any other band on this bill. IMO, they need/deserve to play later in the day but not on the main stage because of the other acts that day and therefore would be better suited headlining the 2nd stage. none of that matters. you fail to realize the size of their fanbase.

Great! But isn't this for Sasquatch artists? Holy shit, you're right. I spent so much time predicting that Phoenix was going to be on the lineup that I apparently now believe they are playing. My bad. Enjoy anyway.

Yeah, for some reason they just fit so perfectly with the bands that have already been announced. Ah, well, maybe you guys'll see them in 2011.

You argue like you are in junior high school. These forum boards are brutally slow and boring and for a minute I thought maybe an opinion could spark some genuine conversation about the festival. Guess what pal, posting hundreds of times doesn't make your opinion more valid than mine. Instead of just mocking what I say "ya throw them on the yeti at noon" (which I never said) or just saying that I lack knowledge to have that opinion, shows you have some growing up to do. TBH I am not even going to be there on the day in question and couldn't really care less when MGMT plays but I think these boards could use some real discussions about music.

i also think saying MGMT does not belong at the festival is moronic.
everyone has their own taste.
there are a number of bands in the line-up that i think suck balls but i'm not going to rip them by name or say they shouldn't be there.
other people like them and that's fine.
their are plenty of bands in the line-up that interest me. i would never expect to like every band that gets signed up for this type of event.

I think you raise many interesting points here. It's a stretch of a comparison, but back in 2005 when artists like Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, and Clap Your Hands had amazing debut albums there was a large amount of hype built around them making their sophomore albums difficult to match or top. All three in my opinion had follow-up albums that were easily just as good if not better than the first for many reasons. Silent Alarm, Neon Bible, and Some Louder than Thunder have produced some of my favorite songs to date, and not just for the bands. These essentially were albums that had to grow on you, and for that reason I find myself playing more of these tracks than of the debuts. This isn't to say that I won't go back to "In this Home on Ice," "Crown of Love," or "This Modern Love," I just find myself listening to their seconds more than their first. Again this is loose comparison as Congratulations isn't necessarily their sophmore album, but it is the break from the sound we've come to associate with MGMT. On another note, I don't know where this "noon" or early afternoon thought is coming from in terms of schedule... If anything they're likely going to play the 7:30 spot on the mainstage, opening for ween *sigh,* but should be a cool lead to the New Pornographers, and ultimately Boyz Noize.

More power to you. I've given them a shot before, never been a fan of the music, saw a show anyway, just not my particular brand of whiskey, (and I drink lots of whiskey.) Not that I have anything against them, for whatever reason, that's an odd set-up (MGMT into Ween,) but who knows it could work really well, I've seen some really interesting mixes, as I'm sure most have. Luckily the Sasquatch Gods have deemed it fit to have some other artists to mix it up for others.

For whatever reason, that's an odd set-up (MGMT into Ween) i see yer point. obviously ween trends from pop towards hardcore (although they can hit a ton of genres) where as MGMT is (currently) moving from techno dance pop with a twist of acid rock to whatever you want to call the new album (psychedelic surf concepts that are heavy on the down beat? lol.) but i think they have some pretty big similarities too. song writing duo's that have evolved into full bands. a clear refusal to take their music too seriously. and a disinterest in commercial success if it is going to impinge on their creativity. different generations certainly but i think (hope) it works. Luckily the Sasquatch Gods have deemed it fit to have some other artists to mix it up for others. absolutely. there is plenty for everyone. i don't think anyone should necessarily agree with me or like ween or like the new MGMT album or like anything else they don't.

Let's talk about how fucked up it is that MGMT plays over Band of Horses.
I'm usually a fan of "commercial realism" on the board, by which I mean "Well it makes sense, I guess MGMT sells better than Band of Horses," but come the fuck on.
