The new Band of Horses is awesome! "Laredo", "Blue Beard" and "Bartles+James" all have great melodies and "Northwest Apartment" rocks! I would have to agree with Insterstate that it way more like Everything All the Time than Cease to Begin...which is a good thing.
All of these recently leaked albums are great but the one that I am most torn over is The Hold Stready. Not at all what I was expecting/hoping for. It is a very disjointed album and after numerous listens I would have to say it's the weakest album that they have released. Every band has their misteps I suppose. That being said, for every weak song (The Smidge and Barely Breathing) there are some real kick in the ball songs (The Sweet Part of the City, Hurricane J, Our Whole Lives, We Can Get Together and The Weekenders).
Oh well. It still doesn't change the fact that they are one of my must-sees and I am sure that the new songs will be better live than on the album...I hope!
Finally, this is probably not the right thread for this but after releasing quite possibly two of THE BEST albums this year, it's really a shame that neither The Morning Benders or Titus Andronicus are playing Sasquatch?

BoH - i'm not digging as much as you are The Hold Steady - pretty good live. I heard 7 new tracks (3 singles + 4 others) i think a week before it all leaked. The Morning Benders - You can hear the influences, but it's the best breakthrough this year. I like it more than local natives. local natives is less original. local natives are absolutely great. but way less original. Titus Andronicus - i think it's alright but i can't get behind the hype. i've tried. i just can't |
