- The Very Best! Too bad they are in the dance tent (lucky for you in the dance tent), they do a mix of shows, with instruments/dj set/mc, - Riding the new world beat infusion, but they are very very fun and imo doing the world beat thing better than most (Sorry VW), plus they team up brooklyn hippsters with credible Malawi talent. Check out Warmest Heart of Africa
-Portugal, the Man- Seen 'em, great live show for such a new band. Have a huge expansive sound some what similar to Tv on the Radio - Dramatic songs, swirling loud guitars, messed up harmonies. Awesome modern psych band, and you can tell they play this music for the music not cuz psychedelic got cool again (burn Edward Sharpe!!!!!!)
Patrick Watson-Mix of orchestral and Jeff Buckley pop, I think his albums are beautiful and his voice sounds crazy!
Sun.
-Cymbals Eat Guitars-(Now I'm only doing the name thing to give people an idea and it's the easiest way, so here goes) If Built to Spill, Pavement, Sunny Day in Real Estate and Sebadoh actually came of age in the 2000s and met Bradford Cox (Deerhunter,Atlas Sound) one crazy night and got totally messed up and then moved the party to a quiet room and....... shared ideas! Great album, but I have heard not so good live, but hey they just gettin' started baby! On record they do play some sick guitar.
Local Natives- Mellow. spacious, and still very danceable. Even if I didn't know they were from LA I would say this record sounds like warm sun, elements of Arcade Fire's mid tempo stuff. I'm interested because of the tempos and spaciousness are very good and the perfect tiny tweak that make them sound miles ahead of many other young bands that are some what similar
Girls- Don't know if they (he) counts as small, but great album and the personality that is in each song is always a good indication that no matter the way it is performed live it's gonna look legit, few new bands I find are worth while doing the live "we're just a cool hot mess of our record", this guy seems worth while.
Mon.
No Age- Defenitely doing the Lo-Fi thing right! Energetic and improvisational and bust out the hooks always at the right time
Japandroids- Got to say their name stopped me from listening to them initially (I know shouldn't be the case, but what can ya do?), turns out they are totally sweet. Refreshing that a buzz band doesn't sound like they are to cool for school or fucking music, no disco beats for these guys, the genre Alternative needs to came back, ("My favorite music is Alternative" said a sweet lil' dude in the sixth grade circa 1997)
Neon Indian- If you're looking for a new dance band they are certainly enjoyable
That's all I got, share away peeps
