Saw The Tallest Man On Earth play last night in Montreal and it was an absolutely incredible show. I would definitely recommend you guys check him out if can-it's a great show even if you aren't familiar with him at all. It was just him and his guitar on stage with a mic, and he was so engaging-not to mention he sounded great. I really enjoyed what he played off the new album 'The Wild Hunt' which is also definitely worth checking out. Nurses opened up for him and they were great as well. I hadn't really heard much of their music before, but they had a lot of energy, so they were fun to watch. Anyways, the gist of that was go see The Tallest Man on Earth set if you can, it's gonna be amazing!

I went to Coachella and decided to see some of the bands that are playing Sasquatch since the schedule wasn't out yet and there were some I would see at both.
First I have to say that LCD Soundsystem absolutely killed it. They were FANTASTIC. I still think they should have headlined this year at Sasquatch for a) they are amazing live and b) there songs are wicked long. They are an absolute must see.
The Dirty Projectors were also pretty unreal. Man can those three girls sing their hearts out. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros delivered a spirited set as usual and Local Natives blew the crowd away. Passion Pit and MGMT were pretty straight forward from the albums but they were still quite good. Portugal.the Man were outstanding also.
Now for the not so good. She and Him were good for about 3-4 songs and just started to sound the same. I love Zooey and M. Ward on album but they completely fell short live. The XX were amazing music wise but had the unlucky spot of playing during the day, which looks like could happen at Sasquatch. It just seems like their music is made for a small club or brooding at night. Vampire Weekend were flat out boring.
And finally, one of the biggest flops of Coachella was Pavement. I like Pavement on record and all, so don't flame me for this opinion. They were unfortunate to play against part of Phoenix (who had one of the biggest crowds bar far this weekend) and Orbital. There was practically no one there, they all looked like they still hate each other and it just sucked.

andimac awesome stuff man thanks a TON. i read that there were so many hipsters waiting for girls that the P the Man crowd was enormous. glad they had a solid show they'll keep on converting fans until they take over the world. or something like that.
she and him.. yeah that happens. although it is worth watching just to see M Ward play guitar. he is so tasteful.
great news on lcd playing well. and local natives are getting so hyped it's crazy. good for them.
thanks for the reviews, i'll give you my quasi update this weekend. and tallest man if i go.

I also forgot to say that I walked by Deadmau5's set after Fever Ray's to see his new light show. It was pretty damn amazing!
I have to say that I was impressed with Coachella's sound and artists. The fact they could pull out favs like Fever Ray, Dead Weather, LCD and Atoms for Peace. One of my only complaints of the fest was the lack of security. Sasquatch doesn't have an over abundance, but they are visible at the gates between stages and are very helpful in distressing situations. Over the weekend of Coach, around 20 people fainted around me from this that and the other and there was no one to get help or anything. The worst is one of them had a long ass seizure and didn't get medical treatment for 40 minutes because there was no one to tell it too. I work in the medical field and this was my weekend to relax and listen to music, not doing medical stuff. Griping aside, the music was still amazing.

Were they fainting from the heat? How hot did it get down there?

It was a mixture of heat, dehydration and excessive drug use. It was like 80 degrees with packed in crowds at every stage. There was weed like everywhere which is pretty normal for a fest, but the guy that had a seizure had drank way to much, smoked weed, took acid, lsd, mushrooms, and snorted some coke within like an hour. There is partying and there is getting too shitted. One of my favorite moments from the weekend was watching Fever Ray, which was the best set of the whole weekend imo, and when the lights came on afterward seeing all the drugged out people crying on the sides of the tent because they had had such bad trips. Priceless

Priceless Jesus Christ that's insane!!!!! Too bad for that dude...probably spent the remainder of the weekend in the chillout tent! I'm jealous that you went. Did you by chance watch Faith No More or Atoms of Peace? How were they?

Both were fucking mind blowing. I'm from Idaho so I have only gone to Sasquatch and Monolith prior to this years Coachella, which has always been a goal of mine to go to Indio. FNM sounded so good and had Danny Devito dance across the stage for them. It was awesome. I was a huge fan of The Eraser to the point I listened to it too much, but have to say that Atoms for Peace make it sound 1000000000000x more amazing. I was shocked as to how good and how much that album actually needed Flea to play in it. My top sets were by Fever Ray, Dead Weather, LCD, Atoms for Peace, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, The Specials, Gossip, Dirty Projectors, Portugal. the Man (huge surprise), Florence and the Machine, FNM, Phoenix and Spoon. My absolute favorite moment of the fest was when the Specials were playing, there was a 6 year old on his dad's back with headphones on that was singing the lyrics along with the Specials. They showed him on the screen for a little bit and the crowd went absolutely bananas. Then he realized he was on the screen and the screams of joy were pretty awesome. There were so many good bands it was ridiculous.

The land of fruit and honey!
Also, if you are dreaming for MGMT to play Kids, it is probably slim to none that they will. Just don't get yer feelers hurt when they don't play it.

I'm glad they've recently worked Time to Pretend back into the setlist. I always liked that one better than Kids.

Hi everyone. I don't really post on here, but I'm on the Coachella message board. I'm still exhausted from this last weekend but thought I'd share some of my reviews of the bands I saw that will be at Sasquatch. I can't even begin to describe how excited I am to make the trip up to WA next month for this festival with all of you!
Z-Trip: I only got the end of his set at Coachella, but it sounded good. He mashed up The Verve. He was a bit chatty, promoting himself and handing out T-shirts, which I found irritating, until I later found out that these shirts say "I AM A DJ," which is a direct slap in the face/response to Girl Talk's famous "I am NOT a DJ shirts." I would definitely want to hear a full set from him, because it sounded like he has a ton of skill.
deadmau5--I saw him at HHM 09 and was underwhelmed, but from what I heard about his set last Friday it sounds like he's got a ton of new tricks and that his energy is back. Definitely worth checking out and having a mad dance party to. Sounds like he's bringing the new massive light show/LED mouse head with him so that will be a treat to see.
Vampire Weekend- I saw these guys at a small venue in San Luis Opisbo last fall, and they were great. The sound off their albums translates wonderfully live so if you are a fan there's no reason to miss them.
A-Trak- I also saw him at HHM 09. I'm a total A-Trak fan girl but even so, his turn-tablism skills are just something to see for yourself. He has so much fun up there, is always trying out new tracks, and will hopefully have his pet horse Mustard up on stage with him.
Simian Mobile Disco - I've only seen them live so I can't speak for their DJing skills, but if they lay down some of their more popular tracks I imagine the Rumpus Room just going off in a frenzy of excited dancing.
Jets Overhead - caught a few songs of theirs as I was resting in the shade last weekend at Coachella. Really mellow, breezy sounding music and the lead singer's voice was spot on. Probably a great early set to warm up to on Sunday
Freeland Whales - meh. I've seen these guys a few times because they play as openers in San Francisco a lot. To me, they are a decent indie band with a lot of eclectic members playing instruments, but nothing more. I get a sort of "Oh, wow, a xylophone." feel from them.
Local Natives - I can't WAIT to see them again. Their set at Coachella was a blast. So energetic, and I enjoyed them live much more than I've enjoyed their album. The lead singer's stage presence is unbelievable, and they really rock out. This is sort of a don't miss act for me.
Dirty Projectors - Apparently they had some problems at Coachella, and my friend said they sounded sloppy. I did not notice this at all (It was my first time seeing them). Dave Longstreth playing the guitar backwards? Awesome. The vocal harmonies? Beautiful. They had to cut Rise Above from their set list so I sincerely hope they play it for us at Sasquatch.
LCD Soundsystem - I am in big trouble for making my boyfriend and I duck out right as they started playing "Yeah" last weekend, because it was apparently the highlight. But all the other songs were just phenomenal, in particular Us v. Them. I won't be missing any of this set.
The Mountain Goats - caught them at a show in SF in 2008 and it was gorgeous. His catalog is so vast that it's hard to get exactly the set list you might want, but he puts on a taught performance and I love watching him strum the guitar. I assume most of what he'll be doing is from his newest album? He did a Kathy Mattea cover when I saw him. It was a treat.
Camera Obscura- another excellent set I got to enjoy last weekend. It took them forever to do their sound check and the lead singer seemed a bit grumpy about it at first, but her blase attitude melted away eventually and the music took over. They didn't perform "The Sweetest Thing," which I had expected, but we got a lovely rendition of "James."
Passion Pit - I saw them at Treasure Island last year and the lead singer's inability to hit the falsetto really threw me off. I almost wished he hadn't sung at all. There's a ton of mixed reviews about this band's live performance, but I'm not really a fan. (And I love the album and EP). My advice is that if you have a conflict, skip out on these guys...you won't be missing much.
MGMT - Not the best live performers. I saw them at Treasure Island and it was totally lackluster and uninspired. They sort of do whatever the hell they want on stage. No, they won't play Kids.
