Local Natives - I can't WAIT to see them again. Their set at Coachella was a blast. So energetic, and I enjoyed them live much more than I've enjoyed their album. The lead singer's stage presence is unbelievable, and they really rock out. This is sort of a don't miss act for me. Ah, awesome. I got tickets to see them at Governor's Island in August as schedule insurance, but this may be a band I catch twice. Can't wait.

Thanks for the reviews guedita and andimac. It sounds like Local Natives is one to not miss. I dig their music, but could have skipped them due to conflict, but that's out the window now.
"Yeah" by LCD is my favorite of theirs, so I'm glad that was a highlight. They had sound issues the first time I saw them, so that song wasn't too sharp.

Quasi at Johnny Brendas in Philly!
Dudes. Fucking sweet. This is rock. I like pavement and all, but I wasn't alive to catch them the first time so I have no nostalgia bias. Quasi showed that their many years of experience amount to them rocking that much harder. They barely overplayed, they jammed when they needed to jam, the vocals were spot on, the new-ish bassist was holding it down, and they were having a ton of fun. After to listening to most of the back catalogue, this year's AMERICAN GONG is easily their finest work and their tour is rocking out the new tunes.
If you listen to pavement, built to spill, etc. you should already know quasi. if you don't already know quasi, you better get on it. because if you even like just one pavement song, quasi is your new friend. hell, if you like the black keys, try to check out quasi. simple rock done right.
Too boot they played substitute and i can see for miles by that kinda popular band who played during the waterbreak of that championship football match

so i got tickets to the broken social scene show in nyc on friday night. there was no opener. webster hall was packed. i got up to like 20 feet back. i was so antsy i couldn't stand still or stop grinding my teeth. it was so awesome. the lights drop, and 7 guys roll out on stage. (the 6 touring members and 1 of the horn guys playing a second snare and cymbals). the place was so loud it was ridiculous. they broke into world sick and lisa came out half way through to play some keys.
jason shaw came out on cause=time. so naturally, emily haines was in the house and came out for anthems for a seventeen year old girl. and they played sentimental x's for the first time ever live.
everything they played was incredible. the old stuff was perfect. the new stuff sounds awesome live. and lisa is incredible live. she is amazing because she will step aside for emily to come sing and she knows people cry for feist to come back but doesn't let it bother her. her voice is absolutely incredible and she and kevin have it all figured out so well.
broken social scene is one of the best things to see live. you better scream your face off when they ask you to.
SETLIST: World Sick, Stars & Sons, Texico Bitches, 7/4 (Shoreline), Fire Eye'd Boy, Forced To Love, Art House Director, Cause=Time, All To All, Sweetest Kill, Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl, Sentimental X's, Almost Crimes, Water In Hell, Ungrateful Little Father, KC Accidental Encore: Meet Me In The Basement, Lover's Spit (by democratic vote between lover's spit, superconnected, and major label debut)

Thanks for the review. I keep staring at that set list thinking, "which eight songs will they cut for their shortened set."
That's cool Emily came out, although I doubt we get that treat at Sasquatch, since Metric will be in Europe two days prior. I dig Lisa though.

Saw Freelance Whales in Vancouver on Friday. They played opener for Shout out Louds. I was/am pretty into their album. Their live show was good, but not great. Could have just been some issues with sound mixing, but things just seemed out of whack. The lead singer was inaudible for some parts of the songs just due to the volume of the bass drum. They played a pretty good opener set though, probably 7 songs or so. Generator First Floor, and Broken Horse being the highlights for me. I've got them conflicting with the xx on Sunday, so I'll probably just see the first 20 minutes and then take off.

All my friends (lol) saw LCD Soundsystem this weekend, and they just kept repeating "best show ever, best show ever." So, yeah.

Just took a day trip to Portland to see Caribou tonight (and think I might go to Seattle show tomorrow night if my friends can get me on the guest list). Caribou are quite a force. Favorite parts include the intense differences between extremely soft passages into sudden loud bursts of energetic, musical noise as well as when dan snaith plays his own drum set while the drummer plays his and creates a joyous drumorgy. (I'm really bad when it comes to describing music, so bear with me here.)
