A deep festivals = a TON of conflicts The National vs. The Hold Steady (worst of the weekend, I'll try to catch the end of HS and see them in Seattle this summer, I REALLY wish Hold Steady and Nada Surf would switch)Maybe if we ask nicely they'll consider swapping set times!

even on late night tv the Hold Steady and National conflict But The National just killed it on Letterman. Matt Berninger is amazing. I cannot wait for their set on Saturday evening!

They were awesome and that version of "Afraid of Everyone" was way more edgy live! The Hold Steady were decent last week but The National performed better.
I'm still watching The Hold Steady though. But the switch would be nice!

The New Pornographers vs. MGMT vs. Neon Indian (I'll check out MGMT for a bit but I can't miss The New Pornographers, I'll see Neon Indian at Bumbershoot) if you're in the seattle area, new pornos are in town on july 31st and august 1st. mgmt is also rumored to be playing capitol hill block party in july so you could probably see any of those three bands at sasquatch and still have an opportunity to see the other two within a couple months.

as much as i love camera obscura, every live video of them i've seen bores me to absolute death. i decided i will be skipping their set entirely to catch all of band of horses.

It's a good set if there isn't anything else going on, their albums aren't really powerful to begin with. I will say I've seen BOH four times, and twice were nice open stages, and every time they've been absolutely amazing, you won't miss much not seeing Camera Obscura, unfortunately.

band of horses are really a fun live band, don't miss them unless you're totally in love with someone on another stage. both times i've seen them have been fantastic.

So, is anyone else torn up as much as me by The Hold Steady and WHY? vs. The National?
WHY? is probably my most looked-forward to but The National was probably number two. I'm probably gonna just catch The National at Marymoor with Okkervil River... but September's a long wait.

I'm probably gonna just catch The National at Marymoor with Okkervil River... but September's a long wait. I'm completely with you on this one but I think the national is really the best choice. I think the new hold steady record is mediocore but i'm sure they will still put on a good show. Still, the new national is amazing and they are absolutely killer live. I've seen why? twice in the last 2 years and they are really really good live but I dont think this is the best place to do it. They are awesome in a club and I really don't like the yeti stage (at least last years set up). They are absolutely worth seeing but I would do it next time they come into town. also ticket price wise: why? - 10 hold steady - 20 national - 30 If you're on the fence i would go see the most expensive one and then catch the others next time they come to town

Pavement vs. Dirty Projects = Definitely the worst conflict of all! (I gotta go with Pavement tho, since this is probably the last opportunity to see them. Maybe I'll catch the first song or two of DP.)
Girls - LCD Soundsystem - YACHT - Fruit Bats = crazy cluster fuck. (I'll probably see LCD and Fruit Bats.)
Why? - The National - The Hold Steady - The Very Best = crazier cluster fuck. (I'll probably see Why? then the end of The National)
They Might Be Giants vs. Cymbals Eat Guitars = shitty. (Gotta go old school and see They Might Be Giants, then catch the end of the CEG)
Dr. Dog vs. Craig Robinson = awful. (Gotta go with Dr. Dog tho...)
She & Him vs. The Mountain Goats = kind of disappointing. (Like everyone, I just wanna watch Zooey Deschanel, but The Mountain Goats are one of the greatest bands ever, so I gotta see them.)
MGMT vs. New Pornographers = shitty. (I'll probably try and do half and half.)
Well...Good thing I just told you all of that. I guess it helps to write it out; it helps me get over the pain...

Seattle/Eastside heads: Vampy Weekend announced a gig at Marymoor Sunday August 29, and the Temper Trap announced a gig at the Showbox on Friday August 13.

seriously... I second whoever said to not miss band of horses. When I caught them opening for beck, at bumbershoot, It completely rocked my socks off. They broke like a dozen beer bottles on each others heads, and I was front and chenter, and got a picture on the FRONT PAGE OF SEATTLEPI.COM!!! seriously one on the best days of my life. Another highlight: a smallish looking child (maybe 14) throwing a rather large wrench right into the crowd for no apparent reason.
my conflicts: temper trap vs. phantogram = phantogram full B.S.S. set vs. catching miike snow = miike snow. nada surf vs. vamp week + mmj = vamp week and mmj she and him vs. mountain goats = probably she and him to secure my place for B.O.H.

i'm actually thinking of staying for nada surf after the hold steady just because i'd rather not drown in the sea of hipsters that will turn up for vampire weekend.

yeah that's what I'm thinking. except I'm probably one of those hipsters: but I don't like vampire weekend very much, if it counts for anything.

I'm assuming that my legs will be at least a bit sore after Edward Sharpe + Patton Oswalt in the tent + run down to main stage + BSS + The National, so Vampire Weekend with the added benefit of sitting down trumps a band I haven't seen before.
