you used to post on the pemberton board, right? I thought I recognized the screen name. I was Ander on that board (and many others) for sure, man I miss that festival....anyone who talked bad about it was crazy! I can see why people were pissed about the organization (security striking on the first day, absolute lack of garbage cans, etc.), but there were quite a few showers and i thought the atmosphere was fantastic. I really hope they bring the fest back one day.

Haha, I saw MGMT like that somewhere. Me too, at APW last year. I wasn't impressed, but who knows I didn't stay long enough to really give them a chance.

Saturday:
Who? Vampire Weekend Where? Osheaga Festival (Montreal) When? August 09 Bland, didn't step up the record at all. Wasn't awful but it was far from a special live experience. I'd also like to say they are a waste of a sunset slot if they are in fact last before headliner.
Who? Deadmau5 Where? Sasquatch! When? 09! Not my cup of tea. Certainly the least enjoyable set I saw in the dance tent but I think it was more to do with personal taste than live ability. Pretty repetitive stuff.
Who? Broken Social Scene Where? Calgaryx3, Montrealx1, Vancouverx1 When? Several times between Dec 07 and Feb 09. Great live band, better with more members. Feist and Emily Haines are not common members of the live band so don't get your hopes up too high for that, especially with the bio on the sasquatch site and all their recent press emphasizing the reduced core line-up. Worth seeing either way to me.
Who? OK GO Where? Halifax Pavilion When? Dec 05 Tiny show before they really blew up. It was a lot of fun, easy to dance to and the guys were quite charming. Played a cover of Don't Bring Me Down by ELO so you know these guys have a sense of humour and value fun.
Who? Patrick Watson Where? The Grand Theatre (Calgary) When? November 07 I found it sounded much thinner than the album and Patrick's stage presence was very uncomfortable. It's been three years though..
Sunday: Who? Tegan and Sara Where? Sled Island (Calgary) Orpheum Theatre (Vancouver) When? June 08, Feb 09 Not a bad live show, not particularly amazing. I don't like their music so I was surprised to make it through their performances without much pain.
Who? Dirty Projectors Where? Mac Hall (Calgary), somewhere in Montreal When? Summer 09 Super tight live band, especially considering the complexity of their music. Amber Coffman sounds even better live.
Who? Caribou Where? Montreal, Calgary When? Winter and Fall 08 Incredible live. Two drummers, Dan Snaith plays every instrument fathomable. I found every song made me want to dance. Pretty great visuals also.
Who? City and Colour Where? Calgary Folk Fest When? July 07 Not into his music. Found the show not to be terribly engaging.
Monday: Who? MGMT Where? Osheaga (Montreal) When? Aug 08 Electronic elements were weak and the crowd was filled with bros. These were the two most memorable things about seeing MGMT. They basically did karaoke for Kids as the last song. Pressed play somewhere and danced beneath some ridiculous poncho thing. Woah, zany.
Who? Passion Pit Where? Sasquatch! When? 09 Did not hear one good review of this set and I certainly didn't think much of it myself. If you can time it so you just see Sleepyhead and don't get molested by shirtless bros, go for it. Otherwise, I'd skip em.
Who? The New Pornographers Where? Mac Hall When? Aug 07 or so They were pretty ok. Dan and Neko were there which was pretty cool. They acted pretty pompous the whole time though. Worth seeing if you are a fan but maybe not for a casual listener.
Who? Boys Noize Where? When? March 08 So good! If you like to dance you should absolutely see Boys Noize. I find it hard to make interesting observations about this kind of performance but he kept me wanting more the whole time.

Who? My Morning Jacket Where? Pemberton, Portland, Seattle When? July and September 2008
Absolutely amazing live. Set was way to short at Pemberton festival. I expect more than 2.5 hours at Sasquatch. Check out archive.org for a huge selection of free MMJ shows. We are coming from Calgary just for the saturday and more specifically for MMJ. If I didn't have class on monday we would stay for the entire weekend.
Who? Vampire Weekend Where? Pemberton Festival When? July 2008
Meh. They played the main stage early on the final day of the show.

If I didn't have class on monday we would stay for the entire weekend. Claim that you have American ancestors, and that a great grandfather of yours died in one of our wars. You now have a "personal reason" for taking the U.S. Memorial Day off. Enjoy!

This is probably my favorite thread on the board. We all want to know which bands we should punch ourselves in the groin for missing, so I'm trying to remain unbiased in this list. This is not a list of who I want to see the most (because Ween and LCD Soundsystem would be at the top), but just my opinion of who puts on the best show. For example, if you've never listened to the National or My Morning Jacket, you would enjoy a My Morning Jacket show much more than a National show.

All three of those bands are can't miss live shows. Each bring crazy energy to their sets. Its great that they are all playing the main stage. I will definitely check out SMD on your recommendation. I have a feeling that I am going to split up Massive Attack and SMD on Sunday night. Sunday is going to be crazy.

WHO? Broken Social Scene WHERE? Ontario House, Vancouver WHEN? This past Saturday
Just posting this to brag, more than anything. BSS put on a last minute show for the Olympics here on Sataurday nignt. 300-400 Person Venue.
A couple of friends and I were geeks, and waited 3 hours in line so that we were guaranteed a spot. Of course it was well worth it to stand five rows back and Watch BSS up close. None of the big names like Feist and Emaily were there, but it was still a fun show. They played mostly classics and a couple of covers. Nothing new, but Kevin did sat they would be back in the spring to play a bunch of new stuff...So I would expect them to focus heavily on their new album when they play the Gorge. Let's hope the new album is good!
BTW, between the fireball, the boxed wine, and the enthusiastic people in the line-up, I never had so much fun waiting in a line.

Me too, at APW last year. I wasn't impressed, but who knows I didn't stay long enough to really give them a chance. It wasn't good. Who else did you see at APW? Did you see akron family? Really I only went to see the National, only had a ticket for that day. I saw shearwater and Fleet Foxes before, and was planning to stay for VW and YYYs, but it started raining buckets so we left after the National's amazing set. The conditions were so shitty, that they gave everyone else another day of entry. We were just in town for the weekend, so we still wanted to tour around alot. We went the last night to check out the Black Keys, MGMT and coldplay (my friend's choice). Didn't get the full APW experience at all, but shitty weather was to blame.

The best and must sees I've seen 1) MMJ (5 times) amazing, they also know how to destroy festivals 2) Drive-By Truckers (4 times), You can't help but love Patterson Hood, no matter if you like rock or not, these guys are amazing every night! 3)BSS (6 times) If you only know them from their albums you will have your mind blown! Very different in a good way 4) Massive Attack (1 time) Was at a festival in Ireland and they put on an excellent show, even though they are chilled, managed to make that a very engaging set on the main stage. 5)Caribou(4 times) So fun and full of energy, whole album and more is replicated with live instruments, like a live psychedelic dj dance party 6) Dirt Projectors (2 times) Just beautiful! 7) Hold Steady (3 times) Their there to please everyone 8) Booka Shade (2 times) But both times were night time extended sets on a beach with plenty of room to dance
Decent sets I've seen, and would be interested in checking out again MGMT (2), Passion Pit (1), New Pornos (3 times), Vampire Weekend (1), Portugal the Man (1)
Seen them, not interested. The National (2 times) Absolutely love this band, but they do nothing for me live. Tegan and Sara (2 times) Just not my thing

1. Ween (flames central Calgary) 2. Ween (Edmonton events center) when? 07 or 08 can't remember All i can say is you would be dumb to not take them in, absolutely dumb. They are incredible.
3. Booka Shade when? a couple times over the past couple years Fun times, better then watching a dj play cd's good stage presence
4. Public Enemy when/where? Vegoose 07 It was what I expected it to be
5. Z-Trip where/when Shambhala two years ago i think I highly doubt he will sound anything like he did there, I expect way more ac/dc and eater friendly mash ups for sasquatch his tallent is top notch though

Who? My Morning Jacket Where? Fox Theater, Atlanta, GA When? 2008
Great set at a beautiful place. They rocked out for about 2.5 hours. I would expect very similar situation for Sasquatch - at least a 2 hour set but maybe even 2.5 hours. Highly recommended venue if anyone gets the chance to see a show there, although the beer lines sucked that night.
Who? Public Enemy Where? Most recently at Vegoose When? Oct. 2007
Decent show, but they were a little treble-y. There was good energy for the show but it was disjointed. The wife seemed to get annoyed so we checked out Cypress Hill after awhile.
Who? Broken Social Scene Where? Shepherd's Bush, London When? May 2008
Amazing show. BSS really brought the heat that night. They played for over 2 hours with two encores. Finally got to hear Pacific Theme live, which is my favorite BSS song (first song to be played at my wedding reception). For their first encore, I think it was the bassist who played along with some voice dialogue they had recorded. It was of a neighbor of one of the bandmates who had the ear surgery to finally make her hear. She described how the sensation of sound reverberated through her body and how it made her feel - which was amazing. The band member played along with the voice track which seemed very off the cuff and not rehearsed but it was an amazing live moment.
Who? Caribou Where? The Earl, Center Stage, and Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta When? Various times
Caribou never dissappoints in a live setting. I have invited friends to his shows everytime who never heard Caribou ever, and each time they walked away being a big fan and buying music at the show. Plus Dan Snaith is just a really nice guy. The live band really puts percussion at a premium. At times I have seen every member of the live band bang on the drums at the same time to really bring home the beat. Plus, there were really cool animations going on in the backdrop. Super excited to see Caribou on the main stage.
Who? Yacht Where? Oldtown Block Party, Portland When? Summer 2009
Yacht really has fun on stage, which translates to the crowd having a good time. The beats are bass heavy and its really just the two of them having fun on the mic, while the beats are playing. Not that evolved or involved, but fun nonetheless. I hope they are not conflicting with Pavement, but they most likely are so I will probably miss this set.
