Who: My Morning Jacket Where: Pemberton When:08 When I saw this show I knew very little about the band except in an article I had come across online where the band was praised for their live ability. I saw about an hour set with my good friend who has very different music taste than I do (well I go nuts for some flaming lips he'd be drooling over them crooked vultures) we both found the performance to be outstanding. The band plays very tight and Jim James brings his heart and soul to every song. This is one act anyone would be a fool to miss. you used to post on the pemberton board, right? I thought I recognized the screen name. I was Ander on that board (and many others)

Mgmt at bonnaroo last year was life changing. How were the vocals? I've heard bad things from many, many people but a good opinion is nice to hear. The high quality youtube videos i saw were disappointing. That's the thing, the youtube videos ive seen also have done no justice compared to the actual live show. The energy of the crowd was constant the whole set, and the vocals were completely fine. Plus the new songs like "Congratulations" made it amazing. And for favorite tracks from the bands I listed I would say Neon Indian-Local Joke, Deadbeat Summer, 6669 Dr. Dog- From, The Girl, Shadow People Girls- Ghost Mouth, Headache, Substance Dirty Projectors- Cannibal Resource, Useful Chamber

hmm i guess i'll do this until i get bored (i've seen a lot of these guys before...)
My Morning Jacket: I saw them when they were touring z at the paramount in seattle. Great show that really showed how amazing these guys are. The crowd was really diverse (lots of people 40+) and should provide an interesting dynamic to sasquatch
vamp weekend: boring at block party the other year. If you like them on record you will like them live
national: amazing. I missed modest mouse to see these guys and didn't regret it at all minus the bear: pretty fun but nothing stellar. I like them better on record but i'm excited to hear their new stuff.
Why?: these guys are amazing live. I've seen them twice in the last year and am eagerly anticipating seeing them again. When i saw them last fall they really had gotten comfortable playing larger crowds and Yoni was cracking us up the whole time.
The XX: saw them at an instore in seattle around thanksgiving. It wasn't the ideal way to see them but they still sounded great. I'm guessing they will play late on the wookie stage and I will miss them but that's ok (i'm seeing them in april). If they are on the mainstage early in the day someone fucked up.
long winters: lead singer flipped me off for requesting jesse's girl, fuck that dude
band of horses: I may be alone on this one but these guys are absolutely horrid now. I saw them at sasquatch in 06 and was blown away by their performance but I just saw them last fall and couldn't believe how much I hated it. The band has become full blown country bros and their fans are the absolute worst. Avoid if at all possible (I know you want to hear them play funeral but i'm telling you it's not worth it).
New Pornographers: really fun. If we are lucky Dan Bejar will be a drunken asshole.
Neon Indian: Don't miss these guys, they put on a hell of a show. They played at my school in the fall (i booked them!) and it was a ton of fun. If you haven't listened to psychic chasm you should definitely give it a chance
Mountain Goats: I'm a big fan but last time I saw them was disappointing. I'm going to chalk it up to the crowd and say that i'm optimistic that they will be amazing this time.
Portugal. The Man and Japandroids: haven't seen either but they are playing at my school in April so I'm really excited to see them!

newjerseyDid I misunderstand or did you say somebody paid $132.50 for 2 tickets to see Girls? I saw Girls and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for $12 (Canadian, so actually like $11!!!) at The Biltmore in Vancouver. Girls opened for Pains and they totally stole the show. Chris Owens looked pretty fucked up before their set, but man that dude leaves it all out on the stage. The tickets were going for $12 to $15 each, but they sold out pretty fast. The $132.50 was for a set of four off eBay, and I almost wound up paying $75 for a pair. By the way, whoever corrected me about The National was right, I just assumed it was Bryce Dessner 'cause that's the name I think of when I think of them. Anyway, I forgot one: Who? Dam-Funk Where? Prospect Park Bandshell When? July 2009 He opened for Animal Collective with a DJ set. I didn't love it that much, but every now and again he whipped out a keytar or sang something, which was a cool change of pace. I'm not gonna try to see him again.

I can see why people were pissed about the organization (security striking on the first day, absolute lack of garbage cans, etc.), but there were quite a few showers and i thought the atmosphere was fantastic. I really hope they bring the fest back one day.

the tallest man on earth: dec 08 opening for bon iver. his passion in his folk songwriting is awesome. new album out april 13th. listen: the gardner, where do my bluebirds fly, i won't be found
cymbals eat guitars: fall 09 opening for pains of being pure at heart. pavement and early modest mouse hybrid? frontman kicked ass live. best 09 debut hands down and album 2 is out this year. MUST SEE. listen: their debut "why there are mountains" front to back.
monday: MGMT: fall 08 opening for BECK! and at apw 09. first show was so much better. the crowd will dance either way. new album out april 13. listen: well you already know them, so listen to the back half of the album instead of the popular stuff. it's better anyway.

Haha, I saw MGMT like that somewhere. Me too, at APW last year. I wasn't impressed, but who knows I didn't stay long enough to really give them a chance.

Saturday:
Who? Vampire Weekend Where? Osheaga Festival (Montreal) When? August 09 Bland, didn't step up the record at all. Wasn't awful but it was far from a special live experience. I'd also like to say they are a waste of a sunset slot if they are in fact last before headliner.
Who? Deadmau5 Where? Sasquatch! When? 09! Not my cup of tea. Certainly the least enjoyable set I saw in the dance tent but I think it was more to do with personal taste than live ability. Pretty repetitive stuff.
Who? Broken Social Scene Where? Calgaryx3, Montrealx1, Vancouverx1 When? Several times between Dec 07 and Feb 09. Great live band, better with more members. Feist and Emily Haines are not common members of the live band so don't get your hopes up too high for that, especially with the bio on the sasquatch site and all their recent press emphasizing the reduced core line-up. Worth seeing either way to me.
Who? OK GO Where? Halifax Pavilion When? Dec 05 Tiny show before they really blew up. It was a lot of fun, easy to dance to and the guys were quite charming. Played a cover of Don't Bring Me Down by ELO so you know these guys have a sense of humour and value fun.
Who? Patrick Watson Where? The Grand Theatre (Calgary) When? November 07 I found it sounded much thinner than the album and Patrick's stage presence was very uncomfortable. It's been three years though..
Sunday: Who? Tegan and Sara Where? Sled Island (Calgary) Orpheum Theatre (Vancouver) When? June 08, Feb 09 Not a bad live show, not particularly amazing. I don't like their music so I was surprised to make it through their performances without much pain.
Who? Dirty Projectors Where? Mac Hall (Calgary), somewhere in Montreal When? Summer 09 Super tight live band, especially considering the complexity of their music. Amber Coffman sounds even better live.
Who? Caribou Where? Montreal, Calgary When? Winter and Fall 08 Incredible live. Two drummers, Dan Snaith plays every instrument fathomable. I found every song made me want to dance. Pretty great visuals also.
Who? City and Colour Where? Calgary Folk Fest When? July 07 Not into his music. Found the show not to be terribly engaging.
Monday: Who? MGMT Where? Osheaga (Montreal) When? Aug 08 Electronic elements were weak and the crowd was filled with bros. These were the two most memorable things about seeing MGMT. They basically did karaoke for Kids as the last song. Pressed play somewhere and danced beneath some ridiculous poncho thing. Woah, zany.
Who? Passion Pit Where? Sasquatch! When? 09 Did not hear one good review of this set and I certainly didn't think much of it myself. If you can time it so you just see Sleepyhead and don't get molested by shirtless bros, go for it. Otherwise, I'd skip em.
Who? The New Pornographers Where? Mac Hall When? Aug 07 or so They were pretty ok. Dan and Neko were there which was pretty cool. They acted pretty pompous the whole time though. Worth seeing if you are a fan but maybe not for a casual listener.
Who? Boys Noize Where? When? March 08 So good! If you like to dance you should absolutely see Boys Noize. I find it hard to make interesting observations about this kind of performance but he kept me wanting more the whole time.
