Hey. I am a first time Sasquatch-goer and will be driving up from LA with some friends. We really dont want to make the trip directly. Does anyone have any advice as to where we should spend the night halfway. We were thinking Portland but is that even on the way?
We also think we are going to camp as we hear its the best way to go? Does everyone agree?
Thanks!

portland is about 15 hours from LA, and another 5 hours after that and you'd be at the gorge. obviously it's a few hours beyond half way so if you really want to split up the driving equally stay in grant's pass or something. i'd recommend using I-84 from portland instead of continuing north on I-5. it's a more direct route with less traffic overall, but it's pretty rural in some spots. camping is about the only option unless you want to stay a few miles away in a hotel where they may or may not have a shuttle going to the gorge. premium on-site camping or at wildhorse is usually good.
