This is actually a very plausible theory; in the past, Sasquatch has routinely announced some big-name bands, only to announce the ACTUAL headliners about a month out from the festival. When did that happen? Never. Because imagining that Sasquatch has a host of secret headliners they're going to announce in two months is fucking stupid.

I agree with interstate, Massive Attack would headline any festival in the world right now. And both ween and MMJ have headlined festivals in the past, those are our headliners, I don't know much about Ween, but i am excited about Massive attack, and i think watching Mmj subheadline for an hour, would be a ripoff, i would rather see them for a whole set.

Bahahaha agreed I8. Believe it or not, the acts they have announced as headliners will headline this festival. As it has been stated many times before there will more than likely be a few more mid-level adds, but nothing headliner worthy. Looks like there are about 6-7 bands less than last year (not including comedy/dance tent), so expect a few more late additions.

i can't figure out why the hell a remote place like the gorge would have a noise ordinance restricting shows from going overnight. i know the cure played an almost 3 hour set in 2008, i wish we'd get more bands that give it their all instead of playing a half assed 1.5 hour set. letting the dance tent run til 2am or so would be awesome.

I agree and disagree... yes on the dance tent. Some bands warrant a 3-hour long set: The Cure is one of them. My Morning Jacket will definitely play a 3-hour set. But after a long day, I understand the desire to see a solid 1.5-2 hour set and stagger back to the campsite.

I'm stoked with the line-up as it is. Anything added will be nice but expecting "bigger" headliners is ridiculous. I still think Monday could see someone pretty decent added... but I'm certainly not expecting anything.

It's hard to compare against years past in part because the band's current status shades some of your perception of them. For example, look at 2003. My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, and Death Cab for Cutie all played with Coldplay headlining. This was just one day, as the festival was only one day that year. Now, you'd expect any of those bands to headline (and some have/will).
But in 2003 Transatlanticism wasn't even out (DCFC). Good News For People Who Love Bad News (MM) wasn't out. In 2003, My Morning Jacket hadn't even put out It Still Moves. These were not big bands in that time.
(and the rest of that lineup was stacked too. I wish I was in town that summer!)
That being said, I do feel a bit underwhelmed by the headliners. I think part of it is the rumors (although I knew most of them couldn't be true or were unlikely) and part of it is my lack of investment in the bands headlining. I know that Pavement, Massive Attack, MMJ, etc. are great, but I just have very little familiarity with them and don't listen to their music like I do with other bands who were rumored, such as Pearl Jam. So on that level, I'm a bit let down.

I just realized that I haven't seen a single band in the whole lineup, and there are about 30 bands playing that I absolutely love. This is going to be sooo awesome. Last year I had already seen a ton of the bands before Sasquatch, quite a different story this time around.

This is by far the worst sasquatch lineup yet. I've been to four sasquatch's. Massive attack? Ween? WTF! These are not headliners. I don't know if I would consider them subheadliners. MMJ plays stadiums and are big enough to warrant a top spot but the rest of that day is fairly weak. I bought my tickets back in November because I had faith in sasquatch and I'm very, very disappointed. My tix are going up on craigslist, and I know they won't be the only ones.

I didn't make it to the 08 Sasquatch, so the other night when I was reading through the previous lineups you could say my mind was pretty blown by the headliners that year.

and you know, say what you want about bands like mgmt and vampire weekend, but they are selling more albums than anyone else in the country right now. they ARE the big names on the bill.

I caught NIN last year (does that count as a headliner) and yeah I saw all of them in 08.....those are the only two years I've been so I'm relativity new but this year I'll probably be at all of them (unless we leave after MGMT)

Never gone before because I was never a fan of the lineups and short sets, but for me personally My morning Jacket, Drive-by Truckers and Massive Attack are some of my favorite modern bands. And I've been wanting to see Ween forever at a festival. So I can see why some people are disappointed because it is obviously somewhat of a shift. But aside from the headliners, who I think if people are into the other indie acts they will love them, their seems to still be the typical Sasquatch acts - Indie/hippster stuff, dj's, big name hip hop, and some new buzz bands. I think MMJ, Massive Attack, and Ween will show the crowd a better idea of what headliners should be at festivals-all know how to change their stuff up,move the crowd, experiment, and bring great crowds.

Massive Attack, Ween, MMJ are going to be bringing the heat for their headliner sets. I would expect MMJ and Ween to go as long as they can, two hours at the minimum. Plus they should bring a good crowd. I know Deadmau5 was there last year, but it looks like he got really big over the year. He's headlining Ultra over some really big names. Thats crazy. I'm expecting that he is going to bring something special to a night set at the Wookie.

I love it when people base whether a festival is good or not on headliners.

Especially Sasquatch. That's like saying "I hate this cheeseburger because there's no sesame seeds on the bun."

haha ya, and half of the experience is taking in the natural beauty of the location. I've been to red rocks and I still say the Gorge is the most beautiful outdoor venue in the country (maybe world?).
