Yeah, first week of February doesn’t scream late to me, especially if it’s a mid-sized event appealing mainly to locals instead of the Destination Festival Sasquatch became. Definitely, I just was noting that this points to something far smaller. Would it be closer to Upstream or even bigger?

Definitely, I just was noting that this points to something far smaller. Would it be closer to Upstream or even bigger? Bigger (and fewer) acts than Upstream is my gut instinct - also Upstream dug deep for lots of local acts too, and I wouldn’t expect that from LN. Maybe a few medium-large Seattle names and a bunch of midrange DJs supporting decently sized headliners.

Wonder if the Gorge movie has anything to do with the release date of this new fest? Hopefully it comes this week! "The world premiere of ‘Enormous: The Gorge Story’ is on February 1st at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. For those of us further north, the documentary is being shown at the Spokane International Film Festival on February 4th" dancemusicnw.com/enormous-the-gorge-story-documentary/

I fully expect we’ll see some sort of announcement about this within the week, next Monday at the latest. Sunday is the Grammy awards and I remember Sasquatch announcing the day after the Grammy awards in the past to cash in on some of the hype for having Grammy winners on the lineup. I have no real reason to think that, but it feels like it makes sense to me. The first week or so of February always seemed to be Sasquatch’s favorite time to announce, so I would imagine a similar time frame for whatever this is going to be. With this being a brand new festival, I would think they would want to make a big deal about the announcement and try to build some hype sooner rather than later.

I hope to be proven wrong in the coming days, but my final guess for this year's iteration of a new Memorial Day weekend festival a the Gorge is three nights of shows with big artists each night. One stage, so lower overhead. Maybe $200~$250 for three days. My strategy in making these artist guesses is that they're touring this year, playing festivals, and could be available for that weekend, but don't have anything booked for Seattle yet. (Yes, Ella Mai has a Seattle show next week, but I think enough time will have passed by the end of May.) Of course, all of these acts could end up at Bumbershoot. I went with one night of hip-hop, one night of alt rock, and one night of electronic. I'm not as familiar with the draws of electronic artists as the other genres, but here's my best guess:
Cardi B / Imagine Dragons / DJ Snake Gucci Mane / The Raconteurs / Bassnectar Ella Mai / Cage the Elephant / Modeselektor (DJ Set)

Cardi B / Imagine Dragons / DJ Snake Gucci Mane / The Raconteurs / Bassnectar Ella Mai / Cage the Elephant / Modeselektor (DJ Set) Gross. Also waaay too all over the place for one festival. The acts people like aren’t strong enough to draw them all and the acts everyone hates are horrible enough to get everyone to hate it. 3/10, would not waste my money.

The Prodigy are touring North America in May with no PNW dates. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I can really see this new event being another electronic festival, only geared toward a slightly older crowd than Paradiso. Three days, headliners: Aphex Twin / The Prodigy / The Chemical Brothers, and 41 year old Professor Pancakes in attendance. You heard it here first.
Edit: A new generation of contemporary artists not confirmed.

But Prodigy / Chem Bros / Amon Tobin Marshmello might just have enough pull across the spectrum to make the weekend earn a decent sized crowd.

Aphex is wishful thinking You’ve known me here long enough to know that a good 75% of my speculation is just wishful thinking. Although, I would remind you that at this time last year, I was literally the only person here who thought David Byrne would be at Sasquatch and he was. So there’s that. Plus, if there’s anyone who could bring immediate attention to a new festival trying to stand out, it’s Mr Ronald D Jongle.

This actually makes a lot of sense. I should have put them in my guess instead of the Raconteurs. EDIT: They have shows in Rochester, NY on 5/22, Boston on 5/24, Queens, NY on 5/25, and Toronto on 5/28, so they have 5/26 open for a potential show at the Gorge, but it seems unlikely. Of course we've seen Boston Calling crossovers in the past, but I don't remember them immediately flying back east to pick back up on a tour.
