My list is coming! I use the first few weeks of December to re-listento everything I listened to in the year before making my list.

I see no incentive to post a year-end list before the year has ended.

I've been sitting on this list moving stuff around for the better part of a week and while it's still subject to change, I think I'm finally happy with it. The fact that some emo-y indie rock record ended up as my album of the year against some of the best electronic and heavy music I've ever heard really says... something? Maybe. Either way this year was incredible, great job everybody.
1. Camp Cope - How to Socialise & Make Friends 2. Emma Ruth Rundle - On Dark Horses 3. Zoë Mc Pherson - String Figures 4. Lost Girls - Feeling 5. Aphex Twin - Collapse 6. Sylvaine - Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone 7. Beast - Ens 8. Rolo Tomassi - Time will Die And Love will Bury It 9. Mouse on Mars - Dimensional People 10. SOPHIE - Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides 11. Autechre - NTS Sessions 12. Nadia Struiwigh - WHRRu 13. Anna von Hausswolff - Dead Magic 14. Panopticon - The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness 15. Caterina Barbieri - Born Again in the Voltage 16. The Body - I Have Fought Against It, But I Can't Any Longer. 17. Hiro Kone - Pure Expenditure 18. RAMZi - Phobiza "Amor Fati" Vol. 3 19. Eartheater - IRISIRI 20. Robyn - Honey 21. Milieu & Coppice Halifax - Sun Cast 22. Rook - Shed Blood 23. Flown - Awry 24. Nordra - I Was Meant To Live In A Garden 25. The Allegorist - Hybrid Dimension I 26. Thou - Magus 27. Kristin Hersh - Possible Dust Clouds 28. Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love 29. The Breeders - All Nerve 30. Anklepants - Pollen

Listening to A Day With The Homies on wax instead of that crappy digital rip makes me want to try to slot it into my list somewhere. This is why you don't do vinyl-only exclusives, people. NO DIGI NO DOLLA

Normally I'd agree with that, but for some reason I love that this EP is only on wax. It's some of PB's best material ever and its exclusivity makes for an extra special listen every time I put it on.

That’s an attitude I fundamentally disagree with on every level. I’m glad it’s a special experience for you, but in distributing it the way they did, it cheats thousands of other people out of the same experience. It’s selfish and fetishistic. Even if they’re going to limit the vinyl to however many copies, at least releasing the digitals ensures that people can hear it without sacrificing the “experience” of putting on the record.
Like, copies of Aphex Twin’s exclusive Field Day LP flip for $200 on Discogs. But he also released the files on his bleepstore, so that it wouldn’t just be available on 250-odd records that were only sold on one day in London. Only a handful of people own them, but the entire fanbase can still collectively enjoy and talk about the release.
Releasing vinyl-only in this day and age is greedy, and the product of record labels trying to reverse engineer a collector’s item. I’m really grateful that they failed with Panda Bear, because it was like $15 used at Everyday Music.
