The research phase of Sasquatch is something I look forward to every year. The joy of new musical discoveries along with the feeling of knowing you'll get to see them gives me butterflies every time! This is my 5th squatch and over the years the way I dig into the lineup has changed. Basically, once the lineup comes out I listen to almost exclusively Sasquatch music. The goal being, that I get to know every artist as intimately as possible so that I may enjoy each set as much as possible. I start with a playlist of every song from every Sasquatch artist, shuffle that, and then whenever I like a song, I move it into "Goodsquatch". Once I am feeling I have time to really give the music my attention I pick a band in Goodsquatch and dig through the discography. The real fun kicks in when the schedule comes out and I listen through the most recent album of all bands that are conflicting at a given time back to back and they have to duel it out for my sweet sweet attendance.
How do y'all do it?

My strategy is pretty similar to yours. I start with Janssen Solberg's Spotify playlist and keep track of the stuff I like. In the past few years, I've made a spreadsheet to sort the bands into tiers that helps me focus my listening. After I've gone through the lineup and passed all my initial judgments, I make a playlist of everything that isn't in my "Skip" list and that will be my main playlist leading up to the schedule release. If something really catches my ear or I see people excited for something in particular, I'll dig into that for a while.

I've always just made a playlist of 3 random songs from each artist then played that for awhile, diving deeper into artists that catch my attention

I make a spreadsheet with every artist on the lineup and then just slowly alphabetically go through it and colour-code for level of awesomeness or sucktitude. Makes it easy to colour code the schedule when it comes out. I also listen to music at work all day so I have a lot of time to go through lineups.

I'm a student so i listen on my commute, between classes, and I try to do it while studying but a lot of the time it can get distracting, so in those cases I just have to listen to the instrumental or gazey bands. Lots of Explosions in the Sky and Slowdive for me.

I usually go the Spotify route with the Solberg playlist. As the festival gets closer, I start to have lists that I put together at which point I watch some YouTube videos of those people just to solidify or make me second guess my choices in the case that their show looks like what I wasn't expecting of they are terrible or great live.

I keep it simple and go through the lineup on the website, listen to the song they have and if it tickles my pickle then I'll dive further into their catalogue. If I don't like it I move on.
Then I revisit the site after the schedule comes out to fill in the gaps...or roll with recommendations from the board.
