… all of the bands that are playing this year. My challenge to the board, especially you recently baptized ex-lurkers, is to create a new thread for each of our 2018 performers, in a manner similar to the aforementioned band a day thread. If you have a passion or itch or some other stimulus that you get from a certain artist, tell us why. Each thread should contain a video or two, some insight into some aspect of the artist, and maybe a story to provide some personal context. There are several of these from years past, so brush up your grammar and punctuation, and tell us about the band. So, as my installment in the series, and in the spirit of Sasquatch, this missive is offered as introduction to one of our headliners, David Byrne. As the Reverend Pancakes said, watch this start to finish. Amen. The rest of this story is of future, past, and present. In just a few short months, we are going to experience bootie shaking grooves from a skinny white dude who has moves like no other human on the planet. Give yourself plenty of room to shake, because the tunage will be irresistible. There are sure to be some brand new songs – I can’t wait for the new album. Insert new stuff here. As for my wish list, it is all Talking Heads. From Rolling Stone: David Byrne will embark on a short North American tour next year in support of a new solo album that's expected to arrive in March. A post on Byrne's website noted that the upcoming shows would featuring Talking Heads hits, as well as music from his forthcoming album (an exact release date and title have yet to be announced). Byrne also shared a personal note, in which he teased the concept for his new stage-show. The set-up, Byrne said, would be a big open space and the musicians will be equipped with wireless gear that will allow them to roam freely around the stage. In order to hide all the monitors, mixers, amplifiers and other gear, Byrne said they would use a lightweight chain instead of a regular curtain, which could've presented problems at outdoor venues. "The band and I will be testing all of this in front of a live audience during a small number of shows in the beginning of March," Byrne said. "We'll be doing some new songs… and many others that will, I assume, be familiar. I'm excited. This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed." David Byrne 2018 Tour Dates March 3 – Red Bank, NJ @ Count Basie Theatre March 4 – Wilkes-Barre, PA @ F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Art March 6 – Buffalo, NY @ Center for the Arts March 7 – Hershey, PA @ Hershey Theatre March 9 – Waterbury, CT @ Palace TheaterMarch March 10 – Kingston, NY @ Ulster Performing Needless to say, but I’m going to say it anyway. Getting to see David Byrne at the Gorge is going to be fucking religious. I know that he is going to play a lot of his solo stuff, and I must admit I kind of lost touch with his solo music over the years. It will be a pleasure to get into it over the next few months. Finally, I have found that as I grow older, the feelings I get from music get more profound, especially when I am able to share that feeling with others, including all of you Sasquatch nerds. When I saw that there was near unanimous hopeful speculation for a David Bryne appearance, I prayed to the Sasquatch gods and added my lamentations, and lo and behold, WE HAVE BEEN REWARDED! Finally finally, when I saw this video, I swore an oath to be front row center for my guest appearance with David on the Gorge hillside. I hope you join me. Sorry for the ads on the videos. Can't figure out a way to dispense with the commercials - fuckem anyway...

Great start to this series for 2018, mutt. I’m glad you were the one to take the first shot at David Byrne. Appreciate the insights!

I have read that Mr. Byrne would never reunite with his former Talking Heads bandmates because he doesn't want to do the "nostalgia thing," but would he actually perform some of the TH material? That would be insanely awesome!!

That would be insanely awesome!! Yes, it is well documented that he plays Talking Heads songs in his shows. Exactly what the mix of TH stuff vs solo stuff will be remains to be seen, but we should have an idea after the tour starts next month.

I'd be willing to bet that he plays a bigger percentage of TH music at festivals than at his own shows. It's much easier to showcase your lesser known solo material to a captive audience than it is to a festival crowd with multiple music options. I could be completely wrong about that but I just have a feeling. By the time he plays Sasquatch his tour will already be in full gear and his Coachella sets will probably give us a good idea of what to expect. I hope you're right. While I enjoy a lot of his solo stuff, I think the crowd at the Gorge would be way more hyped for Talking Heads stuff. When talking to my friends about this lineup (early to mid twenties) a lot of them do not recognize him by his name. A lot of those people do get excited when I tell them he was the frontman for TH. While it'll be a dance party for me either way, I'm hoping for a TH heavy set so all of my friends I drag to this show are dancing along with me.

I really think David Byrne has a good chancey chance the chiggity champ of champion chancellorsy chancey chance the chiggity champ of champion chancellors the chiggity champ of champion chancey chance the chiggity champ of champion chancellorsllors of playing lots of TH material but it's hard to know for sure because he hasn't done a true solo tour since 2002. I mean he did a couple songs on his tour with St Vincent but that's not a good indicator. The good news is that his tour doesn't start at Sasquatch so we'll have a good idea of what his setlist is like going into the show. The bad news is that his tour hasn't started yet.

Are you guys doing a bit or are you sincerely having the same conversation again? I know. I feel like I need to make a sticky post that says "Yes, David Byrne plays Talking Heads songs during his solo sets. He also plays his solo material. Exactly how much of each is hard to say since he hasn't done a solo tour in several years. We should have a better idea next month after his tour starts."

Pea, is there a way we can just put this as a banner at the top of the home page? Fuck it. Nevermind. People will just ask anyway and it will only piss me off more knowing that it was right there all along.

I fucking get it. Sorry I said anything. You didn't do anything wrong. I love talking about David Byrne and I love talking about Sasquatch, so talking about David Byrne at Sasquatch is one of my top ten things ever. I just have a feeling that about once a week between now and May, we are going to have someone pop up here asking if we think David Byrne will play Talking Heads songs during his set.

Jeezo, you guys are brutal!!! First of all, I just want to say that I am a HUGE David Byrne fan, but admittedly ashamed that I have written off is solo appearances because of his public statements about his reluctance to perform TH material. Obviously I have not done my homework. Kudos to Mutt for sharing his personal experiences with Mr. Byrne and the TH; the band was instrumental in expanding my musical awareness and for that I will be forever grateful; TH is one of my favorite groups of all time, if not my MOST favorite group. Sorry that I asked a stupid question.

Sorry that I asked a stupid question. It wasn't a stupid question, just one that has been asked a few times in a few different places. As good as his solo stuff is, it would be a huge mistake of he decided he wasn't going to play Talking Heads songs any more. That would be like Robert Plant deciding not to do Led Zeppelin songs any more. Sure the hardcore fans would be ok with it, but most people would leave very disappointed.

If Mr. Byrne plays This Must Be The Place, as normie as it is, or say he reaches back into his catalog and pulls out Like Humans Do I’m retiring from Sasquatch. I may not have been a fan of his for very long, but I just really love how summery those songs sound.
