I think (if I remember correctly) in 2010, Broken Social Scene brought out horn players from The National? Or vis a versa And 2013, the Mumfords came out for a song with Michael Kiwanuka and El-P came out for a song with Killer Mike (pre-RTJ). So it's not that guest appearances don't happen, it's just that they are rare and there have been far more missed opportunities to get anyone's hopes up. Like 2015 when 3/4 of Black Hippy all played on the same day and the only guests Kendrick had were a couple kids from the audience. Don't forget the best one: fuckin Tenacious D coming out during Becks set for Mutherfucker and E Pro.

So I'm going to Coachella again and figured that was it for fests for me this year, but then I saw this lineup and I can't imagine not going. I'm selling my blood to come this year (literally, donating plasma) to see the following:
1. The National 2. Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals 3. Bon Iver 4. Lizzo 5. Vince Staples 6. David Byrne 7. Shakey Graves 8. Big Thief 9. Thundercat 10. What So Not
With ~15 others that almost made the list

Before I post my list I have a question for y'all: what kinda setlist do you think we should expect from a Byrne solo show?? What's the breakdown of Talking Heads vs solo stuff? I respect his solo work but it doesn't hold nearly the same weight for me as hearing him play Talking Heads stuff would. Never seen him solo and have no idea what to expect, especially since a festival set might differ from the other shows on this tour, no?

He hasn't done a proper solo tour in several years, so it's hard to get a good comparison. Looking back at his old tours on setlist.fm, it looks like a good mix of both, but about a 2:1 ratio of solo vs TH stuff. This tour he's said he'll be playing "some new songs and some songs everyone knows", so I'd definitely still expect some sort of mix. My guess would be that the festival sets might lean a little heavier on the Talking Heads stuff just because it's more well known to the causal fans, but that's pure speculation on my part.

If I'm not mistaken Snacks said he'd play "a lot" of Talking Heads, however much that means in a set I'm not really sure... I agree his festival sets would probably lean heavier on Talking Heads stuff

He only did 3 Talking Heads songs when I saw him with St. Vincent a few years ago but that was just because they used up most of the setlist to play songs from Love This Giant.

Ya, that's a big part of why it's so hard to get a bead on what how setlist might look like this year, his last three tours have been that one, the one with Brian Eno, and the one where he did the music of William Onyeabor. He hasn't done a proper solo tour since like 2002, so who knows what material he'll be pulling out this year. Also, super jealous that you got to see them on the Love This Giant tour.

ddmjeff, David Byrne will have played ~40 shows before Sasquatch this year, including 8 festival sets, so you will have the opportunity to know what to expect from his show, should you be interested in knowing beforehand.

Naw just made it a mission to get my Fear of Music vinyl signed and waited behind the venue for like 2 hours.
