Starting this thread out with a young London band named Shame that I stumbled upon a couple of nights ago. It only took me 3-4 songs off their debut album "Songs of Praise" to realize that these guys are exactly what the music world needs if rock & roll wants to have any hope of resurgence. This band is angry, charming, clever, talented as hell, and seriously refreshing. If I had to describe their sound I suppose I'd call it post-punk & roll (how bout dat) with tons of screaming guitars, heavy hitting drums, and a snarly vocalist that does everything from barking to spoken word/rapping. There are so many awesome classic British sounds coming through in this album while also sounding very forward-thinking and modern. I haven't been this excited about a new rock band in a few years, and really hope these guys blow the fuck up this year.

Good idea for a thread! Went ahead and checked them out and got the album from a buddy. Very cool! I am watching the London Calling now. Spurred me to google their tour dates and I see they are playing at Chop Suey 2/20. Think I might have to go to that. Thanks for posting this Pea!

Man if that show was on a weekend I would be down there in a flash for it. Seems like a great opportunity to catch them in a small venue before their album catches on.

The new They Might Be Giants album I Like Fun is a strong continuation of their late-era renaissance.
Not as good as Nanobots but better than Glean.

Man, critics are shredding this new Justin Timberlake album. It certainly has some bizarre moments and is wildly inconsistent, but I'm kind of charmed by it. I'll take a page out of HG's book and say that this is one terribly misguided album that makes for some pretty good entertainment.

The backlash had to come eventually for this boy. First listen through it's alright, nothing standing out too much though. I took me a while with the 20/20 blah blah to find the stuff I like on there too though.

He's a great vocalist but I didn't hear a whole of difference between this album and his past ones. It was a fine listen but nothing spectacular. Having said that, "Supplies" is an AWFUL song.

Oh yeah that song should have been shelved and locked away for all eternity. I actually doubt I'll revist the album much, if at all, but the hate it's receiving is totally undeserved. For some reason Pitchfork has launched an all out war against him because of it.

Back when I actually read pitchfork I would see some reviewers criticize the ranking that the bands previous album got (either too high or too low). The only things I know of that they kind of do as a consensus are the year end lists and stuff like that.

The problem with Pitchfork is that they have the power and influence to single handedly make or break someone's career. If there's a particular reviewer with some sort of twisted agenda against an artist they can easily do a lot of damage with a low score. Somebody is fucking pissed at Justin Timberlake there, and while he's too big to be ruined by Pitchfork, they're adding a lot of confusing fuel to this anti-Timberlake fire right now.

They still have editors. As a publication they choose to accept that their reviews come from Pitchfork, not from reviewer a or b... as a publication they’ve waffled on that one album by a very significant spread, effectively saying that they had no idea what they were talking about in 1999.
