I was into the Cure at our kids' age, so it is crazy to have things go full circle with my kids now, you know? I would have died to see my favorite bands at that age (Florence and Grimes are my daughter's total fave), so they are totally spoiled! She has gotten me obsessed with Grimes, so I'm super stoked too. I hope we see you guys - most 13 and under kids are into such crappy music these days, it's great to see kindred spirits

I hope to see many faces from here (and Reddit) but in the event that I don't, because let's face it time flies out there, I wish you and yours a great stay. Also I'm definitely jealous that you guys are taking your kids, I think the best and only concert I was taken to as a kid was Willie Nelson.

And here I am not even realizing that kids could get in. I sure saw high schoolers last year, but no one that I would put under 17.

Keep in mind we stay in Terrace camping (NOT district 9), and they've been to many local festivals which has enabled me to raise them to be festival-smart (don't eat or drink anything unless it's from our camp or I say it's ok, planned meeting spots, whistles to blow to draw attention to them if something goes wrong, etc.). But yeah, my boys kill it there. Definitely wise in the way hydration, sun protection, etc. Probably more festival-ready then most of the 18yr olds I see, haha.

2016: -Okay first off, fuck A$AP Rocky. -We showed up mach later this year on Thursday than we ever do, around sunset. We got drunk fast, and setting up camp in the dark in a huge open area was comical. Plenty of space for intermittent activities. We had sweet neighbors and our flag was mona lisa I think. We had a courtyard, two canopies, and a tipee, lol. -Only problem was serious absence of our Canadian friends! We hope this year will be much better in that regard. -Friday was a neat day because while other attendees arrived, the entire campground was buzzing with an ascending energy in anticipation of the music and festivities. It was splendid spending 6-10 hours in the campground on Friday, prepping before the 4 day weekend. Yeet. -Andra Day was significantly piercing right? Our entire group could not believe the raw emotion, and talent she gave us. That was in my top 5 I think, and WAY unexpected. I wish UMK hadn't conflicted. -Having SIGNIFICANT space at each stage. I've never seen the gorge relatively empty like that, with so many high-end stages. You could walk up to the front row of 85% of the sets!!! -Digable Planets was the highlight of Saturday for me

-The WIND on Sunday had picked up so much. I'll never forget them closing that damn stage. RIP 2016 mainstage appearances of Houndmouth, Frightend Rabbits, Allen Stone, & our beloved Leon Bridges
-Seeing the fire, smoke, and dust plumes from the severe high winds just as we are going into the festival in an extremely lit state. We found out pretty much immediately the main stage was closed.
-Winds that CHAPPED MY SOUL
-Top 5 alert; Mac Demarco was my one and only savior in this delirious state.
-My friends, being the twitter hounds they are, saw the Sasquatch tweet about a surprise at the lawn. So we scramble to Leon, and in my wizard state, I lose them.
-Showing up to Leon's acoustic set with no amplifiers and everyone was crowded around him in growing numbers. I tried to get close enough to hear, but most spots left were too far away to hear, and here's the real kicker. Most groups in this fringe area with me had at least one or less person among them that didn't care at all for Leon, and would talk or just be loud, and drunk. It was absolutely HILARIOUS observing everyone's reaction. They was so much shhhhh'ing during that short set, I rolled my eyes and walked away. Hahaha it felt Shakespearean.
-They opened the main stage and we enjoyed a great Shakes set, that warmed us up in that crazy wind.
-The main stage was inhospitable for The Cure with lowering temps, and wind chill, so most people went to move their bodies at Allen Stone, Big Grams, and Baauer. I ran up the hill and rocked the rest of the night out with Allen, Big Boi, and Phantogram. Wow, did I need those sets, cause the hilarity that they would bring all the music, and fans to the Gorge on Sunday, and not have music on the main stage was too much to handle.
-We heard they hadn't closed the stage like that since a Pearl Jam show 15 years ago. It was a funny situation but we were kind of frustrated considering the price of the festival. Still we made the best of it, and caught plenty of other great acts that day.

We had a courtyard, two canopies, and a tipee, lol. You're one of the teepee guys? That shit was awesome! I think I have hazy memories of watching some dude go hard on a melodica at your campsite at around midnight while someone else accompanied him on the bongos.

No wait, I definitely saw a teepee too. Also holy hell, I like Allen Stone a little but both his and Marian Hill's set were bonafide non-stop dance parties for me and my friends. I wish I remembered this year a little more clearly, but I was such a mess. Did anyone else feel like Alabama Shakes was just okay live? Maybe it was the wind, or maybe I expect too much action, but it just felt flat. The wind though was just a whole other beast, and I wish I caught Leon Bridges but I couldn't leave Mac.

I never got back before 1 or 2. xD that tipee fell over so many times though! Then when we had guy lines to hold it, people kept decapitating themselves on it, running by. Make no mistake, tipee's are dangerous in the wind and dark. Haha. I think someone in our group said they caught random people sexing in there. I'm a no-go on tipees now. Edit: tipee being a poorly standing teepee at the Gorge.
