There is a lot of comedy I want to see this year, but in the past I have had to miss things because there were sets conflicting that I could not miss. I will be super sad to have to miss Eugene Mirman, Doug Benson, and Maya Rudolph. I really hope to run into Doug Benson and smoke a bowl with him.
I've started listening to Courtney Barnett and I think she's pretty cool. She's on the July lineup, but not on the poster for some reason. She's also at Coachella so I may check her out there and report back.
Who first inspired you musically? Kraftwerk, definitely. You know, I discovered electronic music with techno with a Green Velvet track. And then I discovered Kraftwerk, who invented electronic music.
Where did you first hear Kraftwerk? I don’t remember. Maybe on the internet or a CD. I know that I’m fan of them since I’m, like, 16 or 17. And they inspire me a lot today, too. The visions they have for their projects—visuals, videos, covers, you know, everything. And I try to do exactly the same because I can’t do just music, just make a track and put on the internet. I have to do a video. I have to do visuals. I have to create something special around the music. Because now when people want to buy an album, they are going on ichunes, okay. Just a link. They have nothing. So if you want to give something new to people, you have to give more than just a link. Because now there is no CD. So if you give just a link, it’s like you don’t exist, so you have to create more stuff, like video, good visuals, good live show to be something different.
The first track off the forthcoming solo album from Brody Dalle, frontwoman of The Distillers and Spinnerette, coming spring 2014. Song also features Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Emily Kokal (Warpaint).
and to add on to the previous post, Tokimonsta live:
Seeing a bunch of awesome people on the lineup was pretty convincing, but seeing Tokimonsta on it pushed me to buy my ticket. She's been on my "must-see" list for a while, and I keep missing her. And if you have already heard this song, then "Death By Disco" is just the next logical step...
