Yeah. July has a marginally stronger undercard, less "mindie" bands as they are being referred to. It's really hard to make broad generalizations about either lineup though - I honestly feel as though they each contain something for the various types of Squatchers.
July did do a better job of obtaining bands that aren't playing other festivals, especially with dem headliners. I'm lucky that Kraftwerk and New Order are two bands I've always heard are fantastic but never got around to checking out. I'm also one of three people to have never listened to In the Aeroplane over the Sea to completion, which aside from essentially discrediting everything I have to say about music, also saves me some pain at missing NMH.
May's headliners are three groups I absolutely love, and that hasn't happened to me since 2010. Both the National and Queens I've seen before, but saying they're both excellent live bands doesn't do them justice. Outkast is throwing a party at the Gorge and everybody's invited.

I definitely agree. I didn't mean that the undercards in May are bad or awful, just that July's is stacked (so much good rock too). I'm going to both weekends. The first with my pretty mainstream-y college-radio friends who love all of those bands (ranging from QotSA to, yes, Foster the People, to Boys Noize) and going with a smaller circle of friends and my sister's friends from down South who love themselves some folk/bluegrass (Punch Brothers, Mikal Cronin, Carolina Chocolate Drops) and I'm just fascinated by it all (FUCKING KRAFTWERK AND ROBYN MY DUDES!!!!). It seems like Zacks covered every base and kudos to him for it.

At first galnce + light research, I prefer MaySquatch. Mostly because the top bands for JulySquatch are not really interesting me. Soundgarden, while it is a cool surprise, I've already seen once. MaySquatch is also full of bands that I've been wanting to see for a long time (Cut Copy being on top of that list).
WITH THAT BEING SAID, I'm going to keep checking out the undercards for both....and probably end up going to both.

It really is difficult to choose. May will be the first Sasquatch since 2010 where I'm actually enthused about all the headliners, along with the potential of a Cut Copy late-night set. I can't say the same about July, although Kraftwerk is right next to Outkast at the top of my hype list. Soundgarden isn't for me and I got what I needed out of New Order at Coachella last year. July has the better sub-headliners easily and maybe edges out May's undercard overall. At first glance Friday in May is the best individual day for me of the six, but has conflict potential everywhere. I especially fear that Sasquatch will deprive me of a Mogwai show yet again by putting them up against Outkast. And the thought of enduring Foster The People in order to get up front for Outkast disturbs me to my core.
So both, I guess.

But don't worry, I got your back.

I have to say July is the superior squatch here. That weekend is stacked with legends for headliners. IMO May lacks as much substance. I can't seem to get into the national, but an easy solution to that problem is Boys Noize. Right now I think I'll just grab the 2 weekend passes and sort out my plans later. I don't think I know anybody else with the money and interest to get tickets before they sell out, which I think is inevitable despite what the haters say.

Just got my ticket to Bothsquatch. Was just going to do May but Kraftwerk in 3D is a must. Little bummed that New Order and Frank Ocean might overlap.

It's a poor consolation, but one benefit of missing out on Julysquatch is that I won't have to deal with the heart wrenching clusterfuck of conflicts that Friday looks to be.

Having too much good music to see isn't really a problem.

Having too much good music to see isn't really a problem. As long as you see Mac Demarco, everything else is a wash anyway.
